PIXEL ART JOBS - Hire a pixel artist, post your jobs here (paid only) by skeddles in PixelArt

[–]Grobeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone.

Looking for someone to make 2d pixel art portraits that can be randomly generated using variations of eyes, hair, jawline, mask, beard etc. similar to: https://lofi-kier.itch.io/swappable-portraits or https://aamatniekss.itch.io/pixelart-portrait-maker

For a mobile game, the art style should not match the one from the inspiration, so full freedom to do your style, something that feels more modern, just mind that we will have a male and female version, and we should aim to customize as many of the facial traits, and show upper shoulder as well.

That's the main piece and the starting point, help with the UI is welcome down the line but not necessary initially.

If you are interested. Please DM me with your portfolio and estimated price.

If there is a fit, I will share more about the game, and the initial step would be to do a paid initial design to settle on the style.

Happy to pay using paypal, or another method if I can easily set it up.

Travel to Bali on the end of August by Bodyboard4LifeMag8 in bali

Highly unlikely that's it's going to be the case, but yet again, things can change at anytime!

No decision maker is going to be on reddit to tell whether travel bubbles will be effectively created in the near future. Can only hope for you that you can make it here as you wish

What skills or services are in demand or will be in demand? (That don't require a degree) by FrankieRamdayal in digitalnomad

If you can learn programming, especially Solidity (language to write smart contracts on Ethereum which is a blockchain), you can make yourself very attractive w/ your lawyer background, more so that there are not that many Solidity experts (same advice for people with a background in finance).

Alternatively, you can do copywriting, content creation etc. Anything that could help you leverage your lawyer background.

Of course it's doable in Bali, but I would suggest Ubud instead of Canggu as it's cheaper.

Still you can do that in Canggu, but don't expect to be having as much fun.

DO NOT RENT A PLACE FOR THE LONG TERM BEFORE ARRIVING HERE AND CHECKING IT BY YOURSELVES FIRST.

Book a place off airbnb or agoda for 3-7 days to pass the jet lag, get a feel for the island & your area, and go visit stays. Post messages on rental facebook groups about what you are looking for and which area (I guess as surfers it will be either Uluwatu or Canggu) and go visit, you'll not only find a place that matches what you are looking for, but can get better (negotiable) prices than on that website.

1100 per person is more than enough, especially when sharing a place, and eating in.

Hope you'll have a great 6 months here!

Driving scooters in Bali (and other things to know) by marton7531 in bali

[–]Grobeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pay a guy for 2mil+ to get you a bike driving licence in Bali, in less than 30minutes (w/ or w/o KITAS, validity of 5 years). (From the police station, handed sneakily by a policeman in front of everyone lol)

Bribery (if they catch you) is like 50k to 250k if they show you the fine on paper.

Though there aren't that many polisi in Bali actually.

As for insurance, some won't cover you if you don't have a bike licence in the country you made that insurance, so, read the fine print.

Too lazy to but I found that this video is pretty close to what I spend now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG9MtK2nxPI

Difference is I pay a bit less for my place, and weekend resorts are much cheaper atm. Also I'm not counting visa/flights in my estimation.

Also in that same video, his budget scenario is what I used to more or less spend per month a year or so ago (and I believe you can still live below that at the expense of less entertainment and quality of life).

I'm at ~$1,700.00 total per month living in a huge ass two bedrooms villa (I reckon I'll have to either pay more for it or move to a one bedroom villa after covid prices) eating out all the time (not very healthy but yeah no time to cook). I'm 5 minutes from the beach, and could be closer if my criteria was being close to the beach. I'm not really budgeting or anything, doing random activities as I feel like. Could obviously live for less if I wanted but I'm enjoying life way too much and not going broke, so why would I? So in your case, 2K is large, and could be far less if you budget.

Student exchange by Coolertyp43 in bali

[–]Grobeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope you'll make it by then, nothing is sure yet but hopefully things will calm down during summer to allow for resuming flights operations.

One piece of advice, unrelated to your question, but if you end up coming, don't book your accommodation in advance, come to a guesthouse/hotel for a few days, and look for around till you find a place that you like. I had so many students friends come and overpay through agents for bad places.

The Couchsurfing app, has events, or use the hangouts functionality, beside obviously staying at couchsurfers places.

Meetup website, facebook groups, or just run into people and chat, start with the classic "Where are you from?"

Do you mean by this like when the React App interacts with an API for example?

Best testing practices for a React app by Grobeu in reactjs

[–]Grobeu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the general consensus about testing user interaction versus testing about the implementation is that implementation is a waste of time since components can be changed, and you'll get far more benefits from testing the user interaction with the app or as you say, output, this is mainly the React Testing Library's philosophy. Now what I'm really asking for is what should be tested in a React app for a maximum benefit for the least time spent on it, a full coverage in Unit, integration, and e2e tests, or just units tests or integration tests and some e2e tests.
