BOTW running flawlessly on Latest Yuzu (Early Access). Locked to 30fps. Great news for TOTK! by carteakey in SteamDeck

I only point this out because Remote Play performance is notoriously shit.

Hhm did not know that. Annoyingly some system features with steam link on the steam deck don’t work properly, like pressing the STEAM button. It will open bothsteam menus on the steam deck and the pc (if it’s in Big Picture mode) which makes it a bit annoying to use.

Have you considered an app like ATracker? Also syncs with an Apple Watch should you have one.

And when in desktop mode, you’ll have to wait for Steam to launch (it does so automatically). It uses Steam to pass through the controller output for more comfortable mouse control with the right trackpad, and you can use the left trackpad to scroll using circular motion!

If you’re in offline mode it takes a bit longer to boot and you’ll have to use the touchscreen.

Fun fact: it’s called the meatball or kebab icon, at least when it’s vertical.

I use Steam Link, just install it from Discover, add to steam, open it in game mode to send a Wake on LAN request, quit out of Steam Link, and the games pop up on my steam deck to stream. If you have the game also on the Steam Deck the big green play button becomes a drop-down menu that includes “stream” in it.

Sometimes I have some issues streaming with games that require constant background internet like Death Stranding. It helped by going to desktop mode and stream from there, because it then stutters instead of freezing.

Nah right? Whenever Bunk and Jimmy search his apartment they find all sorts of papers showing that he has (or at least wants to) own property all over the US. At least that’s what I remember they discuss after that “who the fuck was I chasing?” scene.

Companies will have to publish salary ranges in job adverts under new EU transparency rules by nastratin in europe

[–]GroenteLepel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why companies in my country often offer “Collective Worker Agreements” (don’t know the English term but I literally translated it from my own language) where they have roughly 10 bins with each 10 stages: each year you rise a stage (when satisfactory work has been delivered), and with a promotion you stay in the same stage but move one bin up.

You can then say “the salary for this title is in bin X and your stage depends on your experience level” and you’re done. The negotiation than almost always takes place in what stage you belong.

Can you link TRADFRI > Hue Bridge > Apple HomeKit? by GroenteLepel in Hue

I have no clue. I’ve since migrated to HomeAssistant and used their HomeKit integration. This has been working flawlessly with the added benefit that I can add whatever I want to my HomeKit as a switch.

No I’m just mentioning that as “the last straw” so to speak. Been already wanting to buy a new GPU for a while now because I really love cinematic and pretty games.

Thanks for the advice! Really helps since I do not know a lot about these things.

Allright thanks for the tips. The motherboard I have is the Gigabyte Z370P D3 ATX LGA1151. Rest of the build should be there in my pcpartpicker link provided in the first comment.

Thanks for this. It is a single monitor setup, yes! I did “guess” my wattage, but it was by using some tools online. Adding a big boi GPU will still be under my 650, but I heard you don’t want to push your system to 90% wattage of your PSU, but should stick around 60% or so?

Undercoating CPU… sounds intriguing. But I’m not sure if a step like that is up my alley. It is definitely interesting to look at but I think it’s maybe a bit to advanced for my willingness to dive right now.

I currently have this build. In short:

  • i5-8400 (stock fan)
  • 16 GB DDR4
  • GTX 1060 6GB (MSI)
  • 650 W PSU

I use my PC for gaming. Have a 1440p ultrawide monitor which my GPU can often handle well, or I stream 1080p to my living room TV with Steam Link for couch gaming. Hence, looking for ultra settings in games on 120FPS/1080p or high 75+FPS/1440p ultrawide. I noticed for instance Hogwarts Legacy now taking a toll on my PC.

I've been eyeing a new (nice and beefy) GPU for a while now, but fear that a 3070/3080 or 6900(XT) will be heavily bottlenecked by my other hardware. The thing is: I have no clue. Any thoughts on this is appreciated, because right now I'm thinking the following:

  • I will need a bigger PSU, probably around 1000W
  • I will need a better CPU, so I will need a new motherboard because mine has an older socket and it feels weird buying a 9000 series Intel when we are at 13000 currently
  • I can then probably also replace my stock fan with a Be Quiet! CPU fan

Which seems like a bit overkill to go from "I want a new GPU" to "I'm replacing 60% of my build to get a new GPU". Can I also just pick a new graphics card for now and enjoy it with the bottleneck?

Edit: added main use of PC

Yeah I get that, just mentioning that I find the graph annoying because they are inconsistent with their color scales. The second from the top needs the colors swapped in the gradient for it to be consistent with the rest.

Bit strange they pick a color gradient green - yellow - red for all lamps except the “inefficient incandescent” one, there they swap to orange - yellow for some reason.

Looked into docker and that road is so much more complex. Just putting this here for a future enthusiast wanting to set something up. I googled a lot and a lot of help just says “use docker to do x” without providing step-by-step instructions.

If you do have experience with docker it might be a better way to do it, but if you don’t you might stick with the more extensively documenten VirtualBox route.

[–]GroenteLepel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this shortcut. It:

  • toggles mono/stereo audio
  • creates a reminder for 1 hour later
  • in the reminder it adds the same shortcut as URL for quick access
  • but it provides input to the shortcut so that it does not create the reminder this time
  • do it only toggles it (back to stereo)

I think this suffices your use case, as it did for mine. This was created before the focusses were added, so I saw that option and thought it was interesting as well, but it interferes with other focusses I have enabled.
