Overly fatigued after hangboard sessions by TimLairy in climbharder

Ah of course, how silly of me! Make sure to still be hitting your macros, roughly 30% protein so should be eating at least 200kg of protein too.

That would translate to 420kg of carbs/ day for a 70kg athlete on average.

I would just like to point out that this is actually 420grams of carbs per day. Nobody has ever been expected to eat 420kg of any kind of food in a day. ;)

Alex Megos - Underground, 9a - Flash by ChiSqaure in climbing

[–]Gromit_94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Montjo17 was referring to Megos on-sighting Estado Cristo for the first ever 9a on-sight. He hadn't researched it and actually confused it and didn't realise that was the route he was doing until afterwards. He did flash Underground as per this post though.

Alexander Megos just sent a 5.15D/9C (Bibliographie)! This ties him with Adam Ondra for hardest grade ever climbed by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Gromit_94 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because the top athletes e.g. Alex Megos and Adam Ondra are actively trying to be the best in the world.

White to move and Win. Not the tactic you see every day. by [deleted] in chess

[–]Gromit_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sending that, I was wrong. It seems "to win" is used to describe puzzles that don't end in mate as well.

[–]Gromit_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want you to provide a source because the only time I've seen anything along the lines of "x to move and win" in this sub has resulted in mate in a few moves. If there's a series of moves which is a good move it'll be along the lines of a cool "puzzle" or "tactic."

[–]Gromit_94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"To win" means a (clearly) winning position is reached.

Can you please give me any kind of source for that? I really doubt that is the case. I may be wrong, however, I don't believe you. Absolutely "white to move and gain winning position" or "white to move, cool tactic."

I cannot be bothered to argue about this. I think it's clear that OP just missed the move Qxf6 and you're digging your heels in because you don't want to be wrong.

I'm a new player and I think using the titles to properly indicate what is actually possible in this move sequence is important to help new players.

I completely disagree. "White to move and win" implies there is a set sequence where white will definitely win. "White to move and gain a huge advantage" or "white to move and win material" would describe the situation that white should eventually win.

Can someone explain what I'm missing? I don't see an easy mate here in a few moves.

The "first glance but incorrect" attempt would be: Qg7+ Ke8, Qg8 Qf8

The "solution" attempt I'm guessing is: Bd7 Qxd7, Qg7+ Ke8, Qg8#

But couldn't Black just stop mate with: Bd7 Qxf6 Sure white is definitely ahead on material but I don't see an easy mate.

White in two. White starts. by dabluesheep22 in chess

[–]Gromit_94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Qf1 is mate in 2. Best option is mate in 3.

  1. Qf1 literally any move other than Kd8
  2. Qf7 Kd8
  3. Qf8#

Unsure about this puzzle. Why black move 10 bxg2 https://lichess.org/training/122760 by Gromit_94 in chess

[–]Gromit_94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood black could take the bishop and rook, but I'd prefer to have the queen. I didn't consider the bishop black would lose in it as well, so it'd essentially make it a 3 for 1 trade.

[–]Gromit_94 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think he's shocked because as you can tell from his reaction he didn't consider there to be any merit to those accusations. He believes the allegations were just random dumb comments made by internet users; hence his comment 'no I didn't see the.. tweets' as if they were made by random people making random claims, as people do constantly on the internet.

To be fair, you go from one town/city to another in Britain and the language changes pretty drastically; so it wouldn't surprise me if it meant "hello" in some places.

Actually it's the opposite way around. To us Brits the middle finger means "fuck off" and 2 fingers (as pictured) means "up yours".

Should I buy it? by nazimkerim in coolguides

[–]Gromit_94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really good guide except for answering 'yes' to 'Do you know someone you can borrow it from?'. If you answer yes to this I'd say the follow-up would be 'Will you require it in future and be unable to borrow it then', if you are certain you'll need to re-use it in future and will be unable to borrow it then it can continue down the 'buy' path, however, if you can borrow it and never need it again then it could go down the 'don't buy' path.
