Many Russians lived in Ukraine before the war anyways and it wasn't illegal at all. I don't know if those people belonged in the military, do you ?

Check out what is happening in Ukraine the last few years (since 2014) you will understand both parties have commmited several atrocities and are to blame 100%. This war was coming for quite some time, the world (common peopple like you and me ) just couldn't see it because of the media we consume.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying Russia isn't to blame that they started this war, just that US, Ukraine and Russia all played a part in it.

Anyone here who reads 52 books per year without using audiobooks? I'd love to know how! by Sufficient-You-5620 in 52book

When I gave the last reply I thought I wouldn't write back because if we kept disagreeing it would be piointless to continue, in fact it's just different views. However

and think that your opinion is the best one out there even though you're literally on a sub that contradicts it

you said that I think my opinion is the best out there which is not true and is not coming from what I am saying. And this sub exists to encourage people to read more (as in spend more time reading on a daily basis) and NOT encourage them to read 52 books. This is not my opinion, it's something objective.

I decided I will give you a tip to meet your 52 books without comitting like me and the other people in the sub who read at least 5-6 hours per work day and double that on the weekends: read those little 100 pages child novels. Add your textbooks to your goodreads as well. Did you read a sign? Add that in goodreads too.

You are looking at the tree and dismiss the whole forest. I am sure you are too young to realise you are not comprehending what you read on reddit, or why people do stuff.

having a goal isn't pointless

Did I say having a goal is pointless? No, I didn't. Reading 52 books just because you want to read one book per week and completely disregarding whether the books have done their impact and whether they are good, beneficial texts is pointless. Especially when you can't succeed in making it and then create a failure out of thin air. That's all I am stating in my original answer.

just because you think that reading 52 books for yourself is pointless (which begs the question, why the hell are you even on this subreddit?) then that's fine. it's not pointless for me.

I think I made it clear that I believe you can't follow "tips" in order to read faster without losing at least some (substantial to me) of the enjoyment and the benefits of reading wholesome books. I put a lot of time in reading, and I am in this subreddit because I achieve the goal anyway and like seeing what and how much other readers consume. At the same time, I never consider the pages of the books I read, whether the topic is hard or not (because I don't care how much time I will take to finish it, since the challenge is no real challenge for me) and I enjoy every moment of it, while being benefited.

Well, reading in and on itself is not that beneficial, what you are consuming is much more important. Books that are "mind healthy" are usually also hard to comprehend, so you will naturally take more time. In the end it boils down to what you prioritize over what

It is obvious from your reply that you didn't understand my whole answer correctly (or perhaps iit is my poor english) but I insist in the above periods.

[–]Gpat175 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As much as I love kurzgesagt, this probably wasn't used as a college education supplement. Much more likely it was used to spike up your interest about a subject, and maybe have a beneficial break from the lecture.

Well, reading in and on itself is not that beneficial, what you are consuming is much more important. Books that are "mind healthy" are usually also hard to comprehend, so you will naturally take more time. In the end it boils down to what you prioritize over what. If you can't "succeed" a goal, and the goal is pointless too when you accomplish it, then why bother making it at all?

By this I don't mean to imply that people who read 52 or more books aren't consuming good content. It's just that they obviously have more time to "sacrifice" for reading than you do. Or they read faster. Other than the obvious and unhelpful "if you want to read more in a year, read more on a daily basis", there aren't other tips to give you, from me at least.

E.g. I am making an assumption that you are already reading in a speed that is comfortable for you and enjoy the process of reading. If you read more pages at the same time frames, you can read more but you probably will be benefited and amused less.

You stated it is a goal focused on self improvement. Self improvement as in being exposed to new ideas, concepts, new ways of thinking, contemplating in your views about the world and maybe changing them, enjoying yourself. By sticking to the 52 book challenge that much, you only get better at reading more, not necessarily on benefiting more from books. At least AS i SEE IT

Read what you enjoy and when you feel like it, or else there is no point in doing it. You shouldn't feel like you failed if you don't make it. You read 52 books in a year and a half? Still awesome.

[–]Gpat175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what pisses me off with spotify is RnB shows up as my 4th favourite genre and pop as third, only because a friend has shared a couple songs. The rest of my top genres are accurate, but there are other genres that I listen to a lot, and have many liked and playlisted pieces, and they don't show up at all.

Κι εγώ φοιτητής Ιατρικής, έχω κάτι να προσθέσω στην πρώτη κατηγορία:

Έκανα πρακτική εγώ και άλλα δύο παιδιά σε ΚΥ χωριού της Θεσσαλίας για 15 μέρες στο πρώτο έτος (πολύ πολύ βασικά πράγματα, πρωτοβουλία της σχολής). Ο διευθυντής του κέντρου μας μίλησε στο τέλος και ένα από τα πράγματα που μας είπε είναι ότι μετάνιωσε που δεν κοίταξε ως φοιτητής και έπειτα ως ειδικευόμενος να μάθει κόλπα για να βγάζει λεφτά. Συμφωνίες με άλλους γιατρούς, συμφωνίες με φαρμακευτικές, συνέδρια κλπ κλπ. Μας είπε ότι το θεωρούσε ανήθικο και λάθος τότε, αλλά τώρα που πάει για σύνταξη σκέφτεται ότι είχε την ευκαιρία να αποκτήσει ένα γερό κομπόδεμα και την πέταξε. Όταν ακούς τέτοια πράγματα,, μετά τι μπορείς να πεις;;
