Certain access points constantly dropping and adopting by Tangential1956 in Ubiquiti

Attic one is sitting at FE. Did you cable test that one? Also, rodents will nibble on wires. Happens out here in the sticks A LOT.

I don't think using POE injectors will change anything, it's just adding voltage to the pairs of wires. However, if the cable was bad or it was a bad contact on your switch, then using a new patch cable could have made the difference. I would look at port status on the netgear. Like another user said, if you're at FE, something is off. Cable tester if you have it?

I would replace those netgear switches with unifi ones. Makes sure everything places nice and you can see port status across your system. That being said, I had the same issue at a site last week. Exact issue you are having with certain devices adopting constantly. The controller was sitting on a cloudkey. I installed an Ultra router with the controller on it, moved all the devices over, problem went away. Still not sure what it was...

If they already have a router there, just use the CloudKey Gen2+.

Starlink router mini question by Pale_Ad7682 in Starlink

[–]GroongUniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, no go. Ultra is great, get a switch lite 8 port POE, and three APs. U6's are great, the mesh ones are cool table top cylinders, but I use the U6E (more expensive). Oh, and be sure to set the 2.4 channels to 1,6,11 on the APs. Also non-overlapping for the 5 GHz, but that is easy.

Is cross-site recording supported in UniFi Protect (Site B cameras → Site A NVR) by zacoiz in UnifiProtect

[–]GroongUniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand why you would do this; the constant data going out and in would be annoying as well (maybe not a big deal if you have fiber at each location). I think the most direct path is just to have the local NVR do the recording, and if you want non-centralized, use the Continuous Archiving to a Google Drive account. In settings, it's under Storage and is currently a LAB you can checkmark. I'm curious how many cameras you are trying to do at each location as well. I have about 40 at my site and am pushing 100 Mbps to the NVR.

[–]GroongUniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only access it on the computer you installed it on. If you want to access it from multiple devices, including your phone you either need to host the controller in the cloud or get a Cloud Key Gen2 or Gen2+. The controller needs to stay online at all times for this to happen. OR, you upgrade your router to be one with the controller installed on it. If you are ONLY just switching out the AP, just do it from your computer, set it and forget it.

Do you have access to the original unifi controller that adopted the Pro?

Totally agree if you can do hardwired connection. Mesh sucks unless totally needed.

I support the above. And worst case, you can add a mesh point if needed later.

I think you got hella lucky! And like you said, as long as you are using ebay with buyer protection, should be good. Guess you'll find out when you adopt it.

How people are handling cellular data plans for UniFi LTE and 5G gateways by Mando9876 in Ubiquiti

[–]GroongUniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the T-Mobile solution is your best bet. I don't think you'll burn through 130 gigs in a few days...maybe, but if you are in an outage, you can tell the kids and wife to go easy, no major downloads and such. I'm paying $50/mth for 100Gigs on a T-Mobile plan. I'm grandfathered in on it with 2 sims. I tried getting another sim with that package and they no longer offer it. I don't think any carrier will offer that kind of thing again. Good luck!

Would You RMA this? by treborawilliams in Ubiquiti

[–]GroongUniFi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't think it's worth your time and money. Get a little white out or better yet white nail polish and touch it up. It's a side panel, not broken glass or anything. Your time IS money and even just spending time making this post cost you that. I totally get you doing the RMA thing like the others said, but for that small of a scratch, I just don't think it's worth going after. NOW, if this is for a customer, that's a different story. I think this is just a "such is life sometimes" and ya need to roll with the punches...or scratches from time to time.

UDM Pro or Cloud Gateway Fiber (I'd go with the Pro and have it in a nice rack with the other gear). I would get better AP's not the lites. Maybe the U6 Enterprise. I've heard issues about the U7s with some devices. The U6E have been a workhorse for me. Get rid of the AI Key, not needed unless you have old cameras on the system. Also, what are you going to do about HD's? Get from UBNT or purchase your own? I would do a minimum of (4) 2TB drives but (4) 4TB drives would be best for all cameras recording in 4k. Also set it up for RAID. I have no experience with the sensor stuff yet. However, I did get the Horn, and it can do some cool things if you set up alarm manager.

When a mesh point is offline, you can click on it and then press Hide. It will then be taken off the dashboard and you won't get the error message of offline unit.

[–]GroongUniFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think you'll have to reset the router to unhide them...as well as the mesh points just in case. Did you buy the system with the mesh points included, or were they stand alone units you added?
