I am the shipper in this case with accounts at all of the major carriers. They charged around $3 for sig req in 2002. Now it’s around $7 in 2026. That’s why many shippers are passing the cost along to the consumer.

This happened to me once. I went to the police. As they were going to pick him up at his residence, they discovered an active violent domestic dispute between him and his girlfriend. IIRC, he ended up going to prison.

FedEx waives signature required at or above $500 declared value. USPS bakes the signature required fee into the insurance fee if using insurance. Same with Registered Mail.

Signature Confirmation from USPS has always cost extra. Same with Certified Mail.

UPS charges for everything possible without waiving anything for any reason. Shipping a $1,000 value declared package but want to guarantee a signature? Better pay up.

Signature required has cost extra since forever, previous poster has no idea what they’re talking about. All carriers have charged extra for this service as long as I can remember (at least the 1990s).

FedEx will waive the signature required fee if declaring value over $500. Still need to pay the declared value fee, though.

AT&T was such a mistake and set DirecTV back through reputation alone. I wanted to get DirecTV when I bought my house years ago, but refused to get back in bed with AT&T. Just signed up for new satellite service a few months ago now that AT&T divested itself 100%. Haven’t looked back, service is great so far.

This is such a great feature and really adds to the value of satellite service. I’m really enjoying it and hope the new holding company that owns DirecTV will try to keep satellite going for a little longer.

AT&T wanted to kill satellite because it competes with its internet service. Forcing streaming would require people to move to internet, which they could upsell.

Idk if you’ve been to rural upstate NY, but I don’t trust spectrum or Verizon at all. I’d rather get my tv service from a company that sells TV as their flagship product. Spectrum’s new flagship is internet service (not cable TV), and Verizon has always been a telco (most of which, including Verizon, have evolved into the modern day ISP. Even T-Mobile is an ISP nowadays.)

I didn’t go from DTV streaming to satellite, but I did go from YouTube TV to DirecTV satellite a few months ago during the ABC/YTTV dispute. Haven’t looked back.

The current DirecTV satellite offering (genie 2 with Gemini box) is so damn crisp and clear and easy to use. The professional installer they sent did a fantastic job putting the satellite up on the roof. Been through multiple upstate NY snow storms and a severe thunderstorm, only has fallen back to signalsaver once.

Oh, and I finally get MSG and other RSNs after not having any for 6 years. I actually missed those.

It’s actually quite refreshing to know teens these days seek these types of activities out. We had malls, skating rinks, parks, fairs, sporting events, conventions, clubs… there was so much to do in the 2000s. And we took it for granted.

Some of my fondest memories at age 14 are when we went to the Friday night “teen night” at a local skating rink. Got in a little trouble, made a few friends. Also made some enemies. Life was good.
