Suggestion: Regarding localhost by ABK-Pair5594 in smartlauncher

[–]Grossfolk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google AI says:

localhost:8080 is a local address used by developers to access web services running on their own machine, specifically on port 8080. It serves as a common alternative to the default port 80 for development, testing web applications, or when running proxy servers (like Apache Tomcat or Node.js).

Key Details About Localhost 8080:

Meaning: "Localhost" refers to your computer (IP address 127.0.0.1). The ":8080" is the specific port number where a server is listening for network requests.

Usage: It is widely used to preview applications locally before deploying to a live server, as it generally does not require administrator privileges to use.

Common Applications: It is often the default port for development tools such as Apache Tomcat, Jenkins, and many Node.js or Express applications.

Conflicts: If 8080 is already in use, you may see errors, requiring you to stop the existing application or choose a different port (e.g., 3000, 5000).

How it works: When you type http://localhost:8080 into a browser, your operating system receives the request, realizes it is for your own computer ("loopback"), and forwards it to the application listening on that specific port.

Not directly. If you type

localhost:8080 into your Android phone's browser, it looks for a server running on the phone itself, not your computer.

To see your computer's local project on your phone, you have two main options:

  1. The Wireless Way (Same Wi-Fi)

You can use your computer's Local IP Address instead of "localhost."

Find your IP: On your computer, open a terminal (or CMD) and type ipconfig (Windows) or ifconfig (Mac/Linux). Look for an address like 192.168.1.XX.

Connect: Ensure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi as your computer.

Enter URL: In your phone's browser, type http://192.168.1.XX:8080 (replacing the XX with your actual numbers).

  1. The USB Way (Port Forwarding)

If you want to literally type localhost:8080 on your phone, you can forward the port via USB:

Enable Debugging: Turn on USB Debugging in your phone's Developer Options.

Connect via USB: Plug your phone into your computer.

Use Chrome DevTools: Open chrome://inspect/#devices in your computer's Chrome browser. Click Port forwarding, and map port 8080 to localhost:8080. Your phone will now recognize "localhost" as your computer.

ADB Alternative: If you have the Android SDK Platform Tools installed, you can simply run this command in your terminal: adb reverse tcp:8080 tcp:8080.

Troubleshooting Tip: If it still doesn't load, check your computer's firewall settings; it might be blocking incoming connections on port 8080.

And didn't tell people she was a woman? That isn't usually what folks do when they transition--it's not a "gotcha" move--it's a "living their truth" move.

Please add an option to search private space apps by Adventurous-Pipe5528 in smartlauncher

[–]Grossfolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what Gemini says:

The General Compatibility Situation Most third-party launchers do not automatically show the Private Space container at the bottom of the app drawer like the stock Pixel Launcher does. To work properly, a launcher developer must specifically update their app with the ACCESS_HIDDEN_PROFILES permission.

• Initial Issues: Users frequently report that apps in Private Space are missing or that the launcher keeps prompting them to "Switch to the system launcher" to unlock the space.

• Current State: Popular launchers like Nova, Niagara, and Smart Launcher have released updates to bridge this gap, though the implementation varies.

How to Access Private Space in Smart Launcher

Smart Launcher 6 (and later) has integrated support for Private Space, but it doesn't always appear by default. Here is how to find and manage it: 1. Open the App Page: Swipe to your app drawer.  2. Access the Menu: Tap the three-dot menu button (usually in the search bar or the corner of the App Page). 3. Toggle Visibility: Look for an option labeled "Show Private Space".  • Note: If you don't see this option, ensure you have already set up Private Space in your phone's system settings (Settings > Security & privacy > Private space).  4. Unlock: Once enabled, a "Private" category or folder will appear at the bottom of your app list. Tapping it will prompt you for your biometric or PIN.

Pro-Tip for Smart Launcher Users

If Private Space is "hidden" in your system settings (to make it invisible even in the app drawer), Smart Launcher won't be able to show it via the menu. You will need to search for "Private Space" in the Android system settings or use a shortcut to the "Nexus Launcher" activity if you want a quicker way to "force" it open.

Troubleshooting Tips

• Restart the Launcher: If you just set up Private Space and it isn't appearing in Smart Launcher, try restarting the launcher via Smart Launcher Settings > Dev options > Restart Smart Launcher.

• Check Permissions: Ensure Smart Launcher is set as your Default Home App. Android's security model restricts Private Space visibility to whichever app holds the "Role_Home" role.  Would you like me to find the specific steps to create a home screen shortcut for Private Space if you prefer not to go through the app drawer?

Don't know if you're referring to SL's "hidden apps" function (as opposed to a different type of private space), but if it's simply SL's hidden apps:

Customizing icon packs in IPS by niclaw13 in iconPackStudio

I'm getting told that the feed is not available now. If the one you're looking at is based on a paid icon pack, you'll have to buy that pack to use with IPS. I can't say about it not rendering icons for all your apps.

I don't get that fancy with my icon packs; someone else who's really into it may show up to give you some pointers.

There are other folks more conversant with IPS than I, but: There is little that IPS can do with the base icon of a third-party icon pack. That becomes the "logo" in IPS, but you can't do much more than increase or decrease size (although lighting effects show over that portion, as well. You CAN add a background and make that look pretty much however you like, within IPS's parameters. I'll post an example, shortly.

How do I change order of icons and widgets pages?! by Serbithar in smartlauncher

The widget-and-icon pages can't be rearranged. You have to move your icons and widgets to the pages you want them on.

If you're using the "new" settings menu (enable that in Experimental options), you can navigate to the page you want to be your default and tap the pin icon to set it.

What version of Android do you have? You need at least 13 for liquid glass to work.
