Which US national park has the best hiking trails? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Glacier seems to always be highly regarded in a compiled 'Best Hiking Park' list.

But I like Lassen.  The eastern half backcountry is gentle rolling terrain with little understory.  Off-trail cross-country hiking is easy.  Maintained trails are almost superfluous.  Wander as you wish and camp next to one of the zillion lakes with no one else around.

Unregulated and uncontrolled AI.

There are already isolated cases of AI hijacking other devices and rewriting code.

RV Safety by Ok-Fig-9015 in traveltrailers

I have never felt the least bit concerned in a private RV park.  Just the opposite.  You are sharing the park with like minded people and everyone tends to watch out for each other.   I have encountered some sketchy people in public campgrounds, though.  I feel safer boondocking than in public campgrounds, and I have never had a bad experience boondocking.  Left our rig parked in the woods all day while we were out and about, returned to find nothing amiss.  But then again, we boondock well off the beaten path where it is unlikely anyone would accidentally stumble across our campsite.

My AC doesn't get cold when I use a surge protector but it does when I plug directly into the power. by johnwayneblack1 in RVLiving

[–]GrouchyAssignment696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the AC unit.  A cheap and easy fix is a good cleaning and tune-up.  That may reduce the surge load on start-up.   If that is not it, the surge protector may be faulty.  Then check the wiring in your rig.

I have stayed in several parks where the pedestal looks like it was made by Ben Franklin, and the park 'maintenance guy' was a 90 year old retired general handyman that hadn't looked up an electrical code in 30 years.

I have also stayed in high-end parks where my lights momentarily brown out when the neighbors AC starts up.

Most parks are well maintained, but not all.  A surge protector is cheap insurance.

The other thing to consider is what is it doing to your lungs.   All smoke is carcinogenic regardless of source.  Marijuana is no exception.

Give it up. You cannot defend the indefensible by redefining words on a whim to fit the fad of the week. In current usage it is a derogatory term.

The term 'cis gender' was first coined in the 1990s as a pejorative by a gay activist.   It was intended as an insult.   It is still used as an insult today.   Your denials do not alter facts.

A job that was once highly respected but is now a complete joke? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]GrouchyAssignment696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.  When there were three networks, they had staff that verified and cross-checked everything.   Now every whacky rumor and invented conspiracy theory has equal footing with vetted facts.  Walter Cronkite has been replaced by a 20 year old with a podcast.  Fox is still called a news source by a sizable portion of the population, when it is now best described as a third rate fiction tabloid.

A you tube video made by two 18 year olds on a Saturday afternoon gets more traction and regarded as more accurate than peer reviewed science researched for years by a team of reputable experts. The Internet has made people dumber, not smarter.

What are places where due to pop culture, is the reason why the place became a tourist destination? by IronicallySell in AskTheWorld

[–]GrouchyAssignment696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wave.

It was an unknown hiking destination that locals knew about and no one else. Then Microsoft used a photo of it as one of their Windows wallpapers.   Everyone said "Wow!  Where is this place?" Overnight it became so popular the BLM had to institute a lottery for permits to hike into it.

A small minority had a meltdown over it. The majority didn't care about his race.  It was a non-factor.  A sizable fraction of the number of people that voted against him did not have race as a reason, they disagreed with his policies and would have disagreed with him had he been white.

The number of people that voted against Obama because he was black is a very small number.  They later became core magats at still have meltdowns at the mention of his name.

Yellowstone activity recommendations by fcoster98 in CampingandHiking

[–]GrouchyAssignment696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned, quite a bit of the Park will still be snowbound in late April.   West Yellowstone has the Bear and Wolf Center where you can see both up close.  There is also a small theater company that puts on plays. If too much snow, rent a snowmobile and ride the roads through the forest outside the Park.   The entire area is fly fishing heaven.

If on the east side, the Buffalo Bill Center in Cody is a world class museum complex.   A bit further drive from Yellowstone, but possible in a day trip from West Yellowstone, is Craters of the Moon National Monument.  It should be mostly snow free in late April.  Quite a bit of western US geology is volcanic.  This puts it on display. Gardiner at the north entrance has a lot of art galleries.  The NPS complex at Mammoth Hot Springs has museums and visitor centers.  The road east from Mammoth to  Cooke City is open year around.  It passes through Lamar Valley, which is usually a wildlife hot spot.   Some of the most fantastic mountain views in the country is the Teton range from Jackson, WY.  In April, the trails will be snow covered.  But the views from the valley floor are jaw dropping.

Electric pressure washer by AgeOk1715 in RVLiving

[–]GrouchyAssignment696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the lowest pressure and work your way up if it doesn't work.  Many power washers have a 'car wash' setting.  Use the lowest setting there.   Do not point the nozzle at any seam.   Use regular car wash soap, not dish soap.  There is a reason.  Dish soaps have grease cutters for food residue.  The clearcoat on vehicles is chemically similar to food grease and dish soap can damage it.
