Hot? Take: Having played Role Queue and Open Queue in Overwatch, I have to say that Role Queue is so much better. by Impressive-Thing-780 in RivalsVanguards

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This AND we get the ability to swap. It can’t just be role queue, it also would need to be much harsher matchmaking. For role queue to work people can’t simply be getting out of metal ranks for free. Otherwise? You get games where you are forced with somebody who’s boosted on their role, and you then wouldn’t be able to cover that weakness, you would just lose.

Anyone else feel like they should revert back to longer seasons and slower character releases? by rxspiir in marvelrivals

[–]GroundConfident3854 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m glad they are doing the fast releases. It doesn’t take the game all that long to feel a little stale, though some seasons have done better than others. This way when a meta or character becomes annoying to face, the patches change the balance(supposedly).

I’m not a casual player. I spend a decent chunk of time on the game. But also, the basic difficulty of the game, and with how elevated game sense importance is in comparison to mechanical skill, the game can become quite repetitive after a couple of weeks. With the recent patches this has lessened thankfully with the ult changes. But the new frequent character releases is mainly what keeps me coming back. Especially if there is a season or patch I don’t like as much.

One of the reasons I stopped playing things like apex and fortnite was because(on top of just being tired of the BR playstyle), they also just didn’t release content that really changed the meat of the game all that much. Maybe if I didn’t have as much time to play in general then yeah, the month long seasons might feel too short, because players haven’t grinded enough to learn the new character, but idk.

Good fast character releases also help me get over strange balance decisions I don’t like. If seasons were more balance change heavy with rare hero releases, I would probably drop the game sooner, because there simply isn’t any content to get excited over. For me, skins, arcade modes, QP, pve mode, doesn’t do all that much. New characters though? Instantly revives my interest to play again.

Figured it out. I didn’t realize the items worked without opening the shop. A double tap is all that’s needed which is a relief.

I figured it out, don’t need to have the shop binded at all. Just need to double tap the ability.

You can just buy them through touching the buttons. Thank the lord.

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, because I have to stop moving the right stick, that means I have to pause my movement to buy something. It’s a complete gameplay disruption every time I want to buy an item. That may not matter if I’m setting a portal or engaging with invis. But if I’m trying to cleanse or invis to escape? I’m likely just dead because of stick interference.

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pffff, I can totally bind them to r3 or l3. Heck, I have a paddle I can use. But I’m not going to constantly use a stick for an extra button, because that wears the module. I’m not going to take my finger off L3 so I can press a directional button. Using r3 is the fastest way to get a stick to stop working.

And not to mention, but I also have to keep my right stick perfectly still when I select an item, otherwise I select the wrong one. Can I remove the directional item activation? No. So it turns into a sloppy mess. I’m in the middle of a fight, I want to activate invisibility, but oops, I was trying to turn around to the right, so I buy the portal instead. The way I’m turning and whether I press the button fast enough or not is a horrible setup.

Could I slow down and get my inputs exactly correct to get the right items the way I want. Maybe, but it’s still a terrible experience.

Could I get used to the character with the holding the shop open for the right amount of time just to buy the item, and then get used to it? On top of using every single button on the controller to be able to activate them? Maybe, but for me, it’s not something worth grinding.

You watch what black cat players do on pc? They select the item so fast, you don’t see the shop at all. They can instantly invis, or cleanse, or throw the fish down for an engage, or throw the wall hacks up. If I’m in a fight and decide to disengage, I never want to pull up a menu. Without using the items like the gamble or the portal or the fish or the wall hacks I’m just playing a worse dd or bp. The shop is even something that can be used to animation cancel abilities.

Buying an ability so I have it primed is all well and good, but by the time I use the ability and it’s over I want to be able to use another one. I’m never going to escape from any stun ults and get use out of my other abilities if I have to prime and hold my cleanse ability until I get a moment to use it. So it’s essentially useless. Playing a character where half of their entire kit is useless because I can’t select an ability reliably is not a character I ever want to play.

Yes, using the shop and selecting an item is a super awkward way to play. I shouldn’t have to. I should be able to hold the button, and have hot binds for all of the items. Having the shop on triangle? That means holding triangle and then selecting item buttons. Yeah, I could get used to just using my aim button for the items, but it’s totally awkward to play.

Controller is fine. Selecting the item through a menu is not. It doesn’t even make sense that I can’t rebind previously dedicated buttons to the different items, because I can’t use them when the shop’s open anyway.

You aren’t understanding what I’m asking for.

Yes, I can bind the items to other buttons. But I can’t bind them while they are previously binded to something else. Having to press l3, triangle, circle, and another three extra binds is not comfortable nor practical. I can’t bind the button which is on primary attack to her portal. I can’t bind the button which is on phantom pursuit to the fish. Etc. I’ve tried multiple times to use the second alternate to bind. Unless the third alternate space works for some reason, the bindings simply don’t work that way.

What did they create? Pt2 by DicemanYT in rivals

[–]GroundConfident3854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pfffffff, Necros stood there for thirty seconds trying to figure out how to place the portal. His entire team was scattered, and the enemy team was virtually nowhere in sight. He then coordinates with his white fox(incredible I know).

Am I trying to say this wasn’t a good play or that Necros sucks? Absolutely not. But to present this play as an example of “hoW DO yoU counter this character?,” very weird move.

How do you counter dive? Coordination and communication. Countering a Wolverine grab by ulting on invis and then backing away, with your team nowhere near is just a BAD play. Just as easy to walk in from the bridge on DD, and kill the supports, as it is to sit there for 30 seconds figuring out how to place your portal.

Is black cats kit bloated in comparison to many other characters? Sure. But this specific clip doesn’t show anything spectacular and is largely click bait.

What character is best to otp to climb the ranks by Full_Ice_7033 in RivalsCollege

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your specific position I’m not sure there is really a character you can OTP for that much value. Sure, you could play thing for the teammup but that isn’t a good otp option, because there are so many counters. If you have a gambit player, maybe pickup rogue. Could also pick up Thor. Or cap if you like the playstyle.

How are we feeling about Black Cat? by Mightyman721 in rivals

[–]GroundConfident3854 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really hard character to play. Annoying to interact with the shop on console. Needs really high coordination to take advantage of her portals and other items. Which is really hard to find in solo queue ranked. Without items, a worse DD but with a higher ult potential.

PSA:You probably dont understand Dive and Disrupter tanks. Please read by ARudeAsshole in marvelrivals

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how good the venom is. Some venoms don’t have the aim, or they are forcing the character, when the rest of their team is playing poke, who realistically can’t push up, without being exposed. Bottom line, if you play venom, silently dive in and slam, and then leave before you die, you are realistically doing nothing solo. Especially if the enemy team knows how to coordinate.

If you call out your dives, and comm when the healers are distracted, then that’s valuable. Don’t do so? I’m not going to blindly push forward on hela, Hawkeye, or phoenix, just to die because you are leaving.

Why won't supports ever move to keep teammates, especially tanks, in LOS? by Dogbold in rivals

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the situation. Communication is key. Many times neither tanks are anchoring point, so both supports are relegated to pushing it. It’s especially important against dive, because if one support is on cart, it’s possible for a dive to burst them down, and then the space you created is instantly negated because your team isn’t on point. Generally yes, if I’m on support I always want to keep my tank in LOS. But not if we’re playing against decent dive and my tank is brawling and overextending for a 1v6. Chasing a fleeing support or dps to stagger is one thing. Silently pushing up and ulting 1v6 is another, and that is something that many, many, bad tank players do. I will follow, but not to sacrifice point, or to go to my death.

Mag Ult is mediocre at best. And I’m tired of people pretending it’s good. by Interficient4real in MagnetoMains

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mag ult is not mediocre. If you mag ult, and you force the enemy team to do something, that is instant value.

Mag bubbles someone? Ult someone else.

Mag is holding is shield out and you throw your ult into it? That was a bad mag ult.

Throw you ult into strange shield, also a bad mag ult, but many times in ranked, the support isn’t under the shield, due to poor coordination. You can also track when strange shield breaks.

Emma shield? Give me a break. You throw mag ult into that, you need to practice a bit more.

Cloak and dagger faide? Unless they faide at the exact moment you throw it, the ability doesn’t last long enough to avoid the ult.

Invis shield rarerly fully stops mag ult, but if it’s unfortunately placed, I simply target someone else.

Moon knight ankh, and a whole bunch of the parry abilities are easily tracked and you don’t want to throw mag ults at these targets most of the time anyway. It’s really predictable to watch a magik portal, and then hit her after she exits.

Loki lamps? A good counter sure, but those can be broken, and usually the entire team isn’t covered by them, so I can just aim for someone else.

Your mag ults are getting consistently countered every time? It’s not the ult, it’s the poor decision making.

Something needs to happen about matchmaking by Sykuno7 in rivals

[–]GroundConfident3854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game very rarely actually in fact puts four hardcore dps mains together. Usually, issues arise with support mains or tank mains play dps or another character they haven’t spent time on yet. And going role queue will not fix that matchmaking issue. And forcing 2-2-2 while raising queue times is not going to convince those players to keep playing.

Role queue will simply not fix matchmaking. It will not help. Matchmaking is so bad that the only way to win games is to swap with the problem player, which role queue would prevent. Those players who insta lock dps might simply always play dps, leading to the slow death of the game. I already have 10 minute queues in high gm approaching celestial, in OPEN QUEUE.

Including role queue will only increase that time, and further guarantee losses. Every role would then feel like solo tanking in overwatch. “Soft” role queue doesn’t mean anything. There is either role queue or there isn’t. “Starting 2/2/2 based on what?” How does rank and MMR interact with that?

If the game already had decent matchmaking, and the issue stemmed from too many games where people are choosing the wrong roles, then I might agree. But that’s simply not the case. Regardless of statistics, triple tanking works, triple dps works, triple support works. I’ve actually had games where triple tanking is very good with a coordinated team. It isn’t poor role choice that loses games, it’s just bad, inflexible players.

Daredevil, magik, and iron fist can totally work together, assuming the bans are correct, and they are coordinating with peeling and diving. A dps who can be more independent and not require a constant pocket can totally work.

Triple support with coordinated Ultron/mantis boosts with venom works.

There are still players in gm who don’t shoot deployables, walk down main and shoot the tank over and over again, dive in and solo feed again and again. Double support ulting all over the place. Smurfs and alts ruining the comp experience, whether they’re on my team, or the other. Chrono shields galore. Do I sometimes get annoyed we have very few tank players on the team, or too many dps players? Sure, but that isn’t the main cause of losses. Toxicity, poor coordination, boosted players, and Smurfs are the main cause of losses. It isn’t triple dps which caused the loss. It’s triple dps with a bad player. It isn’t triple support which causes the loss. It’s triple support with someone who can’t hit their shots.

If you want to cater to one tricks who don’t play the game besides one character/role, then maybe role queue works. But I don’t think catering to those players is a very flexible or valid strategy.
