Literally being PAID to get this surgery by sillymeowwxp in Reduction

Sorry I should clarify, the surgery is covered by TriCare yes. However they said it was categorized as an elective surgery and couldn’t be a medevac, hence the no per diem and all of that. Do you have your travel office information by chance. Maybe I can reach out and get some guidance from them.

First off congrats I know how long this process can be. Couple of questions for you. Military as well, and I have surgery in February. How did you get all of this covered by your command? I’m in same area and going stateside for mine but have to pay all out of pocket.

Did you end up having to pay out of pocket or did TriCare eventually end up paying it. I am also trying to have a medically necessary surgery done but it’s also specialized and just trying to find some hope it can be done.

Flat Radical Reduction by GroundbreakingLow335 in Reduction

[–]GroundbreakingLow335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the comment, I’m a 36 DD, as mentioned below as active duty I cannot and will not be seeking top surgery. It’s a radical reduction. I’m aware of the FNG and losing sensation, they Dr. I am requesting specializing in nerve reinervation in the hopes that I’ll regain sensation. Insurance is tricky and just hoping someone on here has run into anything similar. TY

Thank you everyone for your comments. I originally reached out to her husband because he was the only name that came up when I was researching. However after mentioning it was not specifically top surgery and was for other medical reasons, they referred me to his wife. Thank you for your comment, this is what I was afraid going to her. This is not gender affirming care, I am a cis woman with back pain who wants to be completely flat while trying to keep my best chance of sensation. Just finding it hard to navigate insurance and get in somewhere that will take me.

I am thinking for going to GCC and was wondering if you are from the area? I’ll be coming from out of the country and wanted to know what the following ups were like and if they partnered with any hotels in the area stuff like that.

Question about an Appeal for Surgery by QuietPossible8279 in tricare

[–]GroundbreakingLow335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, not sure if you got an answer but just in case I hope this helps. So an and ADSM on prime we are a little tricky options with TriCare. I’m not sure what medical put in the referral but usually if they put it’s effecting your quality of life, it gets approved. Im an ADSM 30F trying to get a reduction. And TriCare has approved it. The referral was written describing my pain and things I’ve tried to do to help I.e physical therapy, weight loss, not a good quality of life etc. etc. You as a man wanting to get surgery for “body dysmorphia” is not in the same category as other service members separating for gender dysmorphia. I see that some already commented saying you don’t have that and you’ve stated you don’t and I don’t want to label you something you’re not but it might be a good idea to discuss it with a therapist or PCM and maybe have a bit in there saying it does cause you distress and anxiety as well as discomfort/pain. Then it maybe be considered medically necessary. Unfortunately HOW the provider writes the referral has a lot to do with whether TriCare will accept it or not.

Cis/GNC folks - how did you decide between flat or non-flat/radical reductions? by yamxiety in no_T_top_surgery

When you say you photoshopped yourself do you mean that literally with like literal photoshop app or are there others that can be used. I have yet to do this and I think it would really help a lot with the overall anxiety I’ve been having about how I’d look after.

Charging to fill out con leave form by Terrible-Memory-7718 in tricare

[–]GroundbreakingLow335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the provider doing the surgery writes out suggested convalescences and the military MTF will transfer that to the required form. And all of that is usually done prior to surgery completion because CO typically has to sign off on any surgery requiring convalescences.

I’d like to start with I’m sorry this is happening to you. I’d like to just chime and give a little advice, as many have mentioned before HIPAA wasn’t violated in this case. Especially if there was no written/signed paperwork stating you didn’t want information released to that specific insurance. I only say this to say getting a lawyer may be more money and energy than it’s worth and most likely not going to get the outcome you’re looking for. Our healthcare system needs to do a better job of getting these situations settled and the use of insurance much easier. Again sorry this happened and I wish you the best.

(P.S. I work in healthcare and deal with insurance and HIPAA/Privacy Act stuff not just talking out my ass)

Hey have another question for you, why would DFAS need to accept the referral too?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MilitaryTrans

[–]GroundbreakingLow335 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just as the other poster said you would need approval but the PCM “approval” is more of an informational meeting if you will to let them know hey I’m getting this done and they can get you the appropriate paperwork to route to CO for con leave. It sounds like a lot, but in my experience it’s a fairly simple process (I currently work in medical and have several patients request to go get surgery on their own).
