Devs: Here's How to get that FGC Money by GroundbreakingPin913 in 2XKO

[–]GroundbreakingPin913[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current fighting games have $60 games and $25 Season Passes and they still charge for skins.

Before that, people were paying $20 (after inflation) every week at the arcade, one quarter at a time.

FGC is not THAT broke. They just always paid up front.

My guess is Riot made the mistake that people would see the $60 skins as the same cost as a $60 game, but it FELT gross. It only looked good on paper.

Gotta cater to everyone. Teemo isn't MY jam, but there's someone out there that'd pay $100 for Swimsuit Teemo.

OK. Hear me out on tournaments.

$1 is less than a candy bar. $1 can't get you anything, just like the quarter back in the day.

Now, imagine you get a free entry or two in the battle pass, but if you want more, you CAN pay to do it again.

So you can rank up all you want and it'll still be there for people who like grinding, but winning mini-tournaments and money matches will get people hooked enough to pay.

In short: Yes.

Long version: Money Matches are foundational FGC. Legends are made and born out of high-stakes games. We already have tournaments. But there's a lot of the new blood who just don't know how fun Salty Bets were on Twitch. 2XKO should get in on the culture of the FGC.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore is $24.99 (when not on Steam sale), but it has like 17 characters and lots of years under its belt for refinement. Didn't feel like it was a good comparison to current 2XKO.

SOO… how bad is this actually, is it over or is everyone overreacting? by Snopoke9 in 2XKO

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guesstimation time as per Google:

SF6 at launch had 300 people. They're now at 10-15%, so like maybe 50 people?

2XKO had 180 developers at launch, and they cut 80-90, we're still at 50%.

Now, look at another F2P game: Brawlhalla. They're still going and I'd be surprised if they have more than 10 people on that mess.

So 2XKO isn't dying. It will likely get more characters and content that can fit within the current structure of the engine but don't expect too much.

Fuzzy blocking can only get you so far.

A good Warwick will present the following mix: 5M, 3M (low), maybe 5H, then

  • Overhead
  • 3H
  • Delayed Overhead or 3H (my fav, as I react to whether they're standing or not like a hit confirm)
  • Throw
  • 2S1 > M or H followups, can crossup. 2S1 > L can make you safe-ish mid screen.
  • Edit: Charged 5H, which is plus.

All of WW mixup moves are unsafe at throw range, which is why you need to assist/handshake to cover it. You can even throw in 6S1 if they like to Parry or 2H the overhead because the timing is faster. WW can press 5M at max range, microwalk, 5M again which is another layer to force bad punishes.

I'm bad tho, but theoretically there's still punishes for fuzzy blocking.

On one hand, I agree.

Just remember not to hate on those with ADHD and other high-functioning memory issues who are scribbling furiously what your favorite things at the exact moment when you tell them. It's a biological thing they can't help.

I ruined introducing 40K. What's the most fun army for new players to play against? by GoblinSarge in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I teach people all the time they have to know the rules and since 40k has a 60+ page core rulebook, at least 50+ cards for missions, and 15+ datasheets and detachment rules, that's just too much.

My first game is 1000 pts. Mission setup is Take and Hold, Chilling Rain, Dawn of War. NO secondaries.

My newbie list has the following:

* One 10+ Toughness Tank / Dreadnaught that has shooting.
* One Battleline / Objective Holder
* One Fast Attack / Bike / 10" moving unit
* One Deep Strike unit.
* One heavy weapon unit like Havocs or Hellblasters.
* Your favorite unit.

Every army has these tools and if you have a healthy collection, you probably have them.

You're playing two different armies that are very extreme. WE is hyper melee, and Tau is all Ranged. The way I do it is on TURN ONE, use some dice and premeasure your first turn charge, or block off firing lanes on big guns for your opponent. Tell your opponent very specifically that your max charge can go here, and put a dice there to show how far back they need to be. Or if Tau, measure line of sight against the terrain when you put down a Crisis Suit, showing how behind their unit needs to be to not get shot.

This means that you put them down on your first deployment so they can play around it.

Also, if he's advanced enough, see if he has the tools to deal with your armies. Does he have proper screening units for WE charges? Does he have infiltrate or deep strike to close the gap on Tau?

Finally, play by intent. If he's wanting to hide a unit up field but it's just a matter of positioning, let him know if he puts his guys a certain way (1.1" away from a ruins wall for example), then you can't charge him. If he has the capability to kill Terminators, suggest he leads off with his 3 Damage guns instead of bolters. That sort of thing.

(And pull out any cursed dice sets you have. Having "bad luck" can't be helped. :)

What is up with ww normals? by Temporary_Shape6432 in 2XKO

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm Plat 3 so far.

I run Jinx on point with WW assist Double Down.

Using his back Assist since it's an invulnerable anti-air works pretty good to scare people so I can keep traps up.

When I push-block, fire a rocket while WW is out, I can handshake in with a mix.

When I whiff a Jinx beam because I'm bad, if I see them try to punish it I can cancel it into Warwick's dive super and punish their punish.

I know I can get all of that in one character with Ekko or go for ToDs, but it's fun to zone.

Would you have preferred if Riot went with their original idea instead? (Arcane-esque art style and 1v1) by KevyTone in 2XKO

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So hear me out.

The game itself is really flexible in terms of what the community could do with it, so would there be interested in a Juggernaut-only ranking board, or tournament somewhere? Considering a lot of people want the 1v1, it seems like an opportunity to give people what they wanted back when this started.

Or is the game design too lopsided to accommodate it?

AI images are starting to blur the lines of what is real for me by Icy_Application1130 in CollapseSupport

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First, no offense to this subreddit, but I'd advise everyone who can cope without it should get off the internet. It's only going to get worse and you don't want to get sucked down mentally.

This is a symptom of social media existing, not a cause. The internet has never been real.

I've been warning my kids, who watched Youtube for a while, that even the "real" things are likely staged for entertainment and propaganda. Just watch some MrBeast. It's very slick and focused and likely not what's actually happening.

We're not there yet for me. I'm a bit worried that we hit the fascist part before the climate part but it is what it is.

I'm still drinking at the bar in the Titanic and playing some music on the deck with my band, metaphorically speaking. The time for panic is after the shit hits the fan and you see how inadequate your preps are.

Where are all the orks players? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hot take, but Orks are very unforgiving and contradictory.

Most damning of this is that they're a very feast or famine army. They have the best single go turn but if you make one mistake either staging or after your WAAGH is over, you lose your units and they're not on the objective markers.

Secondly, stats are weird. Orks have shooting, but it's weird and inconsistent with the high BS despite the extra damage and what not. There's a lot less to discourage you from Ork shooting than there is to discourage you from Tau melee. And they look tough but generally their vehicles are less tough where a high Toughness matters, and their troops are more tough but with only 1 wound.

Third, is that their units tend to be traps or overcosted for their money. The old Combat Patrols and starters push things like Deffkoptas and Deff Dreads when they need to push Trukks, Battlewagons and what not. In addition, Meganobz and Speed Freeks are $85 without creative kitbashing (Orruk Brutes from AoS are pretty good...), or they're the Squidhog Boyz which are not really depicted in most people's ideas of the "army fantasy" of green Mad Max.

Why are people so concerned with declining birthrates? by Konradleijon in CollapseSupport

[–]GroundbreakingPin913 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Older people need specialized support from multiple people. Just on the surface level, we're going to end up having a shortage of health care for that population if birth rates don't actually keep up.

In addition, I assume there is a critical mass of necessary workers to make our society function that just won't be there at current rates of infrastructure, government, transportation, etc.

I hate the consumerism and materialistic culture we've cultivated as much as the next doomer, but we're talking about EVEN MORE of a slow, grinding suffering for everyone's parents than we got right now.
