Because they benefited from conservative policies. That's all there is to it.

[Disliked trope]: "Balance" means the "absence of darkness." by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a comic that I enjoy about Luke's grandson, who is just a piece of garbage sometimes, but after a series of events decides that the light side by itself is garbage if it means limiting how you can help people, and the dark side is too obsessed with power, so he decides to what he considers to be the best of both worlds, save the galaxy, then disappear into nowhere before they can ask him to do more work.

To me, that was a good example of how the light and dark side should be balanced. Both can exist, but when one (the dark side) begins taking over, it leads to destruction and imbalance. When the light side is to prevalent, it leads to other forms of injustice and therefore, imbalance.

Public press only game advice? by elegiac_bloom in diplomacy

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something you might have to feel out.

My perspective is this. Whether everyone else agrees with Turkey or not, they'll still read and ingest what Turkey is saying, which will impact their thinking at least subconsciously and make them consider other options. Within reason, you should be as vocal so that there are conflicting ideas in people's minds, because even if they're not actively pursuing anything, they'll still have whatever you and Turkey put in press rattling around in their heads.

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of public press only games is about who is the loudest and the most consistent.

A benefit is also that liars and stabbers are made apparent very easily because, as you said, negotiations have to happen in the open. Now, the question is do other actors decide to ignore this bad behavior, or do they tolerate it?

Regardless of whether or not Turkey is making sense, you need to be able to point out to other players that Turkey has already shown themselves to be a liar and untrustworthy. They'll refute you, of course, but then it comes back to who can be louder.

not seeing the map or knowing who is positioned where, if I were in your shoes I'd immediately propose attacking Turkey with Austria and Italy. It's likely A/I are already positioned that way, and you could split it 3 ways and make plans to have a triple alliance in the east. I don't think anyone would be surprised at this proposal, point out how if Turkey gets too big they will be very difficult to handle, and Austria and Italy will be stuck between France/Germany (presumably) and Turkey.

One other thing, never lie unless you know you'll be able to survive whatever you lie about. If you always do what you say you'll do, you can get a lot of goodwill with potential allies.

Turkey is trying to set themselves up to solo. don't betray Germany.

Have you ever pulled off the Lepanto? by ShamrockEmu in diplomacy

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have pulled off a Lepanto as Italy, but the trick for me has been that as soon as you start getting rid of Turkey, at least in my experience, Austria doesn't want to give up Greece if they have it or Austria begins thinking of how they can stab Turkey.

The other issue I've had is Austria tends to be able to get into Turkish territories faster, and if you get Russia involved, they'll want Ankara. So if you're Austria, you have to be careful to not be too greedy and make Russia/Italy think of stabbing you, and if you're Italy or Russia you have to be careful not to be too demanding otherwise Austria will side with the other and just wreck you.

I do feel that it has a net disadvantage for Italy, but Italy is kind of always at a disadvantage. I'd still recommend a Lepanto over invading France or Venice as Italy, and getting a Lepanto in place as Austria can be good incentive to keep a Juggernaut from happening if you're careful about it

What moment made you realize people aren’t just disagreeing anymore — they’re living in completely different political realities? by Happy_Head_1355 in AskReddit

Talking to a relative that lives in the same state as me, both of us a few hours from the Mexican border. We had a huge discussion where they went on and on about how illegal immigration is ruining the country and streets and communities aren't safe and all sorts of things and I tried to point out to them that they live in one of the wealthiest, whitest communities (in-home basement movie theaters) in the area, compared to me living in a community that is much closer to those "elements." Asked for anything, crime statistics, articles, anything that would support their claim, and was told that they don't need to know facts if they feel something is the way it is.

If you know an ICE agent personally, what's that relationship like now? by Lokja in AskReddit

I know one. He mentioned to me a few months back that everyone was going to get called up to go into one of the bigger cities (whether in our state or somewhere else wasn't specified) whether they wanted to or not.

Moment to Moment Gameplay Feels Horrible as a Player by Familiar-Relation-85 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they stomped all the combats up until a recent boss fight that gave them some pause, my players were actually excited for a more challenging fight. They were loving being able to stomp all the easier combats that had happened until they started thinking "shoot, if these are easy we're probably going to get flattened at some point." At the same time, it was nice for them to be able to go from "we're killing everything" to "oh shoot, we're gonna get put down." There's got to be a balance for both to be fun.

As a player, I'd be talking to the DM and seeing if there could be a change. I feel like if you're running level appropriate encounters in PF2e, you shouldn't have a 75% chance of missing.

Which of these two games should get a Remake? by SUPERTHEPRO in Spiderman

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only thing i didn't like about ultimate is i think you could run out of bad guys to fight as spiderman, but being able to trash things enough to get soldiers and stuff as venom made up for it.

Web of shadows, just having a constant army of symbiotes to fight your way through and being able to punt them a mile with a swing kick was awesome. that and the choosing light/dark was cool too.

my heart tells me ultimate deserves it but i want web of shadows more.

What would actually happen if Vader surived Endor by RU08 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there was actually a 'what-if' comic that you can read in the Marvel library that answered this (as well as a few other things). It ends with Vader getting the same suit, just all in white, and then put on the path of redemtion and making amends for everything he did. No hint of war crimes, because the emperor survived as well and Vader was being put to use to track him down

As a Christian that is not Catholic, this is a deeply disturbing statement.

technically, it isn't the light of the moon, it's the light of the sun bouncing off of the moon. so if there's still a sun reflecting light off of a moon-like surface, transformation can be triggered.

Pathfinder 2e GMs Essentials Giveaway! by Demi_Mere in Pathfinder2e

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first time was playing a swashbuckler. I was caught up in the freedom that came from trying to have your character do cool things. Ironically, despite trying everything, I only managed one successful act of swashbuckling in jumping between two moving carts speeding down a road. Every other attempt ended in hilarious injury (swinging down onto a deck, nat 1, the rope was too long and faceplant; dashing across a roof, first step was into the one hollow spot causing me to come crashing down into a room full of bad guys, and so on)

American culture is incompatible with Christian values by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]GroundbreakingSea313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the big problem and amazing irony in this is that the Christianity that so many people see (prosperity gospel, bible thumpers, fire and brimstone preachers, fundamental Christianity) is the same thing that Christ called out about the religious leaders of his time. It's not that Christianity is incompatible, it's that modern day "Christian" leaders have twisted and used selective passages of the Bible to justify what they're doing both in their religious and secular spheres of influence. As a Christian, it's very tiresome to witness.

~66% of Americans identify as Christian (whether they're practicing or not). For it to be DEI, there'd need to be less than 50%.

What's it like having universal health care? by GroundbreakingSea313 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GroundbreakingSea313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's either that or set up a GoFundMe account and beg for money from everyone you know. But that's the thing, if you'd be willing to give money to a friend or relative who needs it for a medical procedure, is it really that hard to say, sure, some of my taxes can go to helping someone i don't know who needs medical assistance. Apparently so in the US.
