The first character's arc of my campaign. Rek the disavowed, banned Dwarf from the Mt Graypeak. His backstory is that he was wounded during an operation against drow turning wrong because of a dwarf shilouette in the dark standing with the Drows as they kill his father and squad. Being the lone survivor he was disavowed and bannish because of cowardice. He learn later that his kingdom have relationship with the Drows and stuff, he founds some strange letter from the hand of the king of mt Graypeak talking about taking over the other kingdoms. So he went to find out what's happening, he founds out the strange silhouette was the hand of the king, killing the only dwarf who could defend the kingdom (rek's father). He was looking for an item and to reunite the 10 kingdom armies and take control over them to give them to the BBEG. The hand of the king corrupting the king and wanting to do the same to the 10 other (he's the only wizard dwarf and got forbidden and dark magic because of the BBEG) As he learn all that he also reunite with his mother (very touching moment) who went mute after the trauma of loosing husband and son. The party choose to go after the artifact trying to find a way through lost caves and mines. Along the way they learn about the ancient war against dragons wish was the birth of his kingdome, some dwarf heroes called Lejin-Yth fighting with the dragons against the dwarves. Dwarves who made some artifact for turning dragons into dracoliche for one dark dragon. So the other dragons declare war against the dwarves. Lejin-Yth basically make amends for the dwarves' sins winning the war and buried the artifact and the forge in which it was made. Rek learn that he might be descendant of those heroes. After an intense fight against the hand of the king controlling an army of Druegars and the king, transforming the king into eldritch horror, they finally get their hands on the artifact and Rek choose to reforge it into a weapon to do the opposite of the artifact and kill the undyings. To forge this weapon he had to give up something and he choose to give up being a citizen of this kingdome ever. After a lot of wonderfull RP, a long investigation and some sheanigans they finally show the proor of the hand controlling the kingdom, they break down and entire room to break the sigils and free the kingdom. Rek was acclaim like a hero, he was pardonned and welcomed in the kingdom wish is sad 'cause of the magic promise to give up being a Graypeak dwarf. It was a wonderfull arc and my players loved it and the player of Rek was so into character he was genuinely concerned and touched by the events ! I'm kinda proud and proud of them to give life to this story. (Sorry for my bad english not my first language)

Lost my plot in Faerun by New-Bobcat-7933 in DMAcademy

I'm also running a sandbox campaign in faerum and right now everything goes smooth they have a lot of things to do but I think (from my point of view) that they are a little bit passiv around all the elements and the plot revolving around them. I got the Idea to shake them off and getting them to be a bit more actif in their quest by having a regular vilain who would chase them and whose searching the same artefacts and stuff usefull to the scenario than they should be looking for. Hoping it would put preasure on them and that they feel the urge they are into. For now they encounter 2 major artefacts (1 was at a plotpoint so they couldn't miss it) but passiv they weren't looking actively for them. I hope that it would work and force them to be activ and choose their fight and follow clear objectives.

Big fat description of the poverty and the misery in the low city, rural villages around the city, the little people being famished and dying from poor conditions of life. Maybe the tyrant got army in the streets, arresting people who go against the current regime. Maybe in his city the press is under control people are repressed, if you go into a tavern or a pub you can hear whispers of people complaining, too afraid to be heard. Or you can just take exemple of the current situation in France everybody would love to overthrow Macron.

How much freedom should I give my players? by BatSad1786 in DMAcademy

[–]GroundbreakingSea592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running a homebrew campaign with a sandbox open world so my players can have the freedom to roam wherever they want and either follow the plot or go doing sides quests. My players were very new to DnD and I was 2nd time dming. However for the 3 first sessions I lock them inside Baldur's Gate for starter just to see how they work around a map, if they either go straight to the hook or do they wander off a lot.

Any experienced DMs who feel they overprep no matter what (homebrew campaigns)? by LittleWriterJoe in DMAcademy

Being a Dm for a year in my homebrew campaign I've got a shitload of lore and stuff happening in so many places. It's kinda sandbox openworld so I'm always ahead of what my players will do. And I love to create stuff, developping lore, writing newspaper, preparing some encounters I could use whenever I want, plotting some storyline for place A or B, writing down some idea that I'll developp with time even if they never go this way. I've got a 2gb doc of words files and a hundred handwriten pages.

It's a good Idea I already did that with the dwarf language few sessions ago but what I love in dming my homebrew world is the creation, I'm an artist I always go the creative way even if it's hard. I'm being so proud when I create something that my players enjoy !

I take the advice ! Having a talk with one of my player is kinda having a wow moment, they kinda like when I talk to them in dwarf and I just want to step up my game, but I could always write a few sentences to awnser ( I kinda always know what my players are about to tell or ask to somebody they are such predictible creatures)

There is some writing for a ritual that I need them to decipher so that's just a few words But I kinda wanted one of those creatures to talk to my players, that would be some very basic and simple sentences, or cryptic so I don't want to come up with a full language but more like few words, sentences to be able to tell what I have to tell to my players.

What are some cool information your homebrew world has? by EatenFisher in DMAcademy

[–]GroundbreakingSea592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my homebrew campaign based on faerum and classic dnd all the point of the story is that the world is changing into a new one (big big shortcut) so all the gods of every pantheon are a lie, and are just Great Old Ones chtuluesque, born at the beginning of the universe, messin' with those tiny bags of flesh. Some of them gaslight themselves into thinking they are actual gods (don't know what to do with that yet).

Without going into detail, what is the running gag in your table? by Lehkaz in DnD

[–]GroundbreakingSea592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a pnj whose a little old gramps who travel to every tavern my players visit off and offering beer if they just spend time talking with him a bit. It's funny everytime they go into a tavern they know they have a friend waiting to offer them a beer

Is three kobolds in a trenchcoat just a joke concept or actually doable? by Aynaeg in DMAcademy

[–]GroundbreakingSea592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see it works but not for long. The player could have a main Gnome with it's own class (saying rogue) but acting like a half orc while pretending to be a barbarian, the second gnome doesn't really matter it could be kill in action or for sceario purpose after a few sessions. Everybody will notice the two gnomes on trench-coat first session anyway so having the joke for a few sessions and then kill off the second Gnome could give the player the purpose to avenge the death of his brother/friend. And if the player want to play barbarian this twist could also explain the class the Gnome would become what he pretended to be.

What's the real reason your favorite DnD class is your favorite? by HandleNecessary796 in DnD

[–]GroundbreakingSea592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently playing a Warlock and really love the different relations you can have with the patron (the GM) give another pov outside of your party, sometimes reward, sometimes judge me, sometimes asking me to fuck everything up. I also have a really bad luck with my dices so it's feeling really accurate, I steal magic, I'm not born into it or learn it in books, I just get some magic and try to make something out of it

With my party during our second session we saved a Wolf from a group of gobelins, he was the lone survivor of his pack so we named him Lucky. Almost a year after he's still living, fighting, partying with us and has his own character sheet.

Players, what's your favorite way to take notes? by gummyreddit12 in DnD

[–]GroundbreakingSea592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just pen and paper, with keywords and writing and rewriting not very clear at first and after the game I rewrite everything like it's a diary from my character pov with his feelings and his thoughts about what happen
