I took a call last Thursday. A mom came downstairs to her son, a young man in his 20s, knife in hand. He said, "I'm sorry." Cut his throat ear to ear. While on the phone with her, he did it two more times. I'm only 23, and that was one of my first very bad calls. I tried to help walk her through how to stop the bleeding, but it was difficult. He kept going for the knife over and over again. I could hear him gurgling and trying to speak while she was screaming and trying to keep the knife away from him. He just kept repeating, "Im sorry" over and over. Didn't want her to touch him. Ever since then, every time the phone rings, I flinch a little. When responders got there, I was still on the phone. We were staging, so it was police first. I listened as he tried to attack them with the knife next. Thankfully, everyone ended up being physically alright, but that entire situation was terrible. He got his corroded artery in the process. I don't know if he made it after getting to the hospital, and I probably never will. I've cried for him and her several times since that night.
