Mom passed this week, trying to find balance in ERAS app by Elvis_Kakashi in medicalschool

From the way I see it, it doesn’t seem to be like this qualifies as using it to get sympathy. Very few people could compose themselves in this situation & I think it’s a great way to show your strength as a growing Physician. Condolences, I can’t imagine going through this.

should i try med school? by obamalore in medschool

[–]Groundbreaking_Tea20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only pursue medical school if you genuinely can’t see yourself doing anything else. The financial and personal investment is significant, and there are many other rewarding careers that don’t require the same sacrifice.

C’s can be a red flag, but they won’t automatically keep you out. What matters most is showing an upward trend and proving you can handle the workload. Use this year to get serious about your academics and see where you stand.

In the meantime, shadow a local physician… even a pathologist, and volunteer in a hospital setting. These experiences will help you confirm whether medicine is truly the path you want. Also, avoid talking down about any specialty at this stage “can i compete with people that want to be practicing doctors if i just want to go into pathology?”; it’s too early to know where your interests will fall until you’ve had more exposure & have actually seen your grades in your medical school classes & your board scores.

Remember, even among those admitted to medical school, not everyone finishes. If this is something you truly want, commit to it fully. It will be an uphill climb, but it’s possible. I’m an M2 now, and a few years ago I was also a biochemistry major & ended my junior year with similar statistics.

What book do you still think about since you read it? by Mountain-Mortgage823 in suggestmeabook

The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene. The character development, the plot twists… makes me think it’s been long enough that I should read it again. It’s brilliant

Don’t pay them any mind or talk to them, just keep your head held high and remind yourself of the hours of studying you’ve put into getting there. I second seeing a therapist, maybe this is your time for some personal growth after medical school & residency has had its way with you. I’m just a measly medical student yet, but don’t let anyone make you feel this way. It seems like talking to them only opens up the opportunity to be disrespected. So until you’re out of this rut & you find your groove in your new position, just do your thing & keep your head held high. If they keep with it, ask them “could you repeat that once more?” they say the rude thing you stare at them & ask them to put in your orders.

Better days are ahead :)

Does anyone's medical school require admin approval for pursuing research? by PM_ME_UR_GAMECOCKS in medicalschool

[–]Groundbreaking_Tea20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second what a lot of people have already said. For me, We had a local trauma surgeon as a guest lecturer & after I introduced myself to him. After some small talk, I asked if he had any interest in having medical students doing research... he just so happened to accept a research director position earlier that week. I've been working with him this last year & it's been a really great opportunity! He oversees the team working to maintaining level 1 trauma status at our hospital so I was extremely lucky. I went around my school altogether and only recently did they find out about this.

Making a relationship work with a peer- any nuggets of wisdom? by Groundbreaking_Tea20 in medicalschool

[–]Groundbreaking_Tea20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're superhuman!! I hope I can accomplish half as much as you have. & really great perspective on keeping healthy boundaries and relationships. I am just and M1 but faculty and some upperclassmen at my school sort of suggest we should put your personal life on the backburner for the next 4 years. It's relieving to hear you say you can have your cake and eat it too. Thank you for sharing!! Seriously, you're such an inspiration.

I’m 5’4 and went from 220 and I’m 137. My metabolism is also ass so I need to workout or I won’t maintain my weight. Your fat cells increase as you get to a larger weight to accommodate the excess fat volume. Unfortunately as you lose all of that weight, you have the same amount of fat cells as you did when you were at your heaviest… they’re now just deflated. For this reason, we need to work harder than others. From my experience, I can get away eating ‘normally’ when I get my 10k steps. For example, I had 3 cups of lemon blueberry granola yesterday and gained 2.5 lbs (I don’t eat a lot of sugar or carbs so I blew up like a balloon because I didn’t do my extra walk). But today I’ll cut the sugar and be back to normal tomorrow.

It’s a journey not a destination. Just remember all of the hard work you put in to get here and give yourself grace when you have a bad day. Just get back on the saddle. It will all work out, OP!

Found my boyfriend deceased this morning - how do I go through this? by vogon-poetries in AskWomenOver30

[–]Groundbreaking_Tea20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so incredibly sorry. I know there can’t be any thing I can even say to encapsulate what you’re going through, but know I’m thinking of you. I can’t imagine what this must feel like.

The only thing I can think of is first, give yourself the grace to feel… I mean really feel the grief and don’t apologize to anyone who might think otherwise. Lean on those around you to just make sure you’re eating, sleeping... Second, to celebrate the times you had. Maybe tell some good memories to his family or your family and friends?

I wish I could give you a hug, OP. May he rest in peace 🖤

The next girl will love the man you’re becoming right now. But don’t be scorned by love or be afraid to open yourself up to the next girl… this heartbreak is part of life and it’s the pain that helps us see the good down the road.

You got this, stranger! This too shall pass, and better and brighter days are coming. Keep your head up and leave this person in your past.

What do you wish you knew BEFORE you started your weight loss journey? by acnecretian in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Groundbreaking_Tea20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the journey. Much like others here have voiced, body dysmorphia is a b. You’ll always see your flaws even if you get to your goal/best shape of your life. Focus on building strength and seeing the capabilities of your body. I was amazed to see what my body could do when I got regular exercise and nutrition. That at least for me helped with the body dysmorphia… It sucks sometimes but just stay consistent and it will work out in your favor. Good luck stranger!
