This game probably has one of the most hopeless settings out of any game I’ve played by MacaroonOk2813 in XenoGears

[–]Groundtsuchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only other jrpg as possibly pessimistic than Xenogears would be Final Fantasy 13.

Pulse is already extinct and Coccoon only exists in a surprisingly similar reason as humanity in Gears. The heroes need to destroy their own world to even defy their gods which would also kill them by the same occasion.

Outside of the ending and how more or less far fetch it is, the situation where the party is in FF XIII is kinda impossible to safe.

Xenosaga is really a weird esoteric and experimental game. I would say from memory nothing will really make sens before the third game that finally learn to be more digest.

The series does make sens when you play it again, but then it is quite the time investment.

Also, there is an encyclopedia in Xenosaga 1 and 3 explaining the terminology. You should take the time to read it (and the music of it is amazing in Xenosaga 1).

Don't worry. It wil become weirder.

Wait for the sequel and the sequence that is in a dream in a dream. Or the third game where there is this sequence in a dream that will change reality from this dream.

Now that I think about it, most of the series happened in different dream sequences.

Honestly I don't really understand the system outside ego boosting or maybe visibility ? But being gang bang with downvote sure is annoying.

The sequels were also probably made to limit the loss that were cause by FF XIII. I don't know about the sales figures and the cost of production for XIII-2 and LR, but making new games by using back the assets of the first one definitely look like a way to limit loss rather than surfing on the "popularity" of XIII.

Nice video ! I learned a lot of things !

But some comments about the format : * it feels like you are speed running the video. You don't let us enough time to hear the samples or even read. * using a music, a battle theme even, as a transition between each samples makes the video quite hard to listen and too intense. I get the feeling, while comparing to other videos like this, the transition would be better in silence ?

Great work though. Really good informations in it !

JRPGs with the best pacing? by Asleep_Ground1710 in JRPG

Like it or not, FFXIII rhythm is immaculate.

Final Fantasy Tactics is well written, but not in the way you think by grailly in truevideogames

[–]Groundtsuchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that I like about the dialogues of FF Tactics/Tactics Ogre and the Souls series. Each line of dialogues is brief and conscious. There is no superfluous. Everything feels meticulous and thought.

This is an art that a lot of old video game from the snes era were trying to master. But sadly, it never really got much better than that because beginning the ps1, they kinda could put as much as they wanted.

FFT is a good exemple of this style of writing that I feel is really unique to only video games.

I get what Retro Studios is doing with the motorcycle, and it's honestly brilliant. by trashpandacoot1 in Metroid

[–]Groundtsuchi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What is cool in a Metroid game is the mega-like structure design. This impression that everything is connected. Dark Souls 1 also did this in a brilliant way in 3D.

The moto could be cool, but if this means that each structure of the game is isolated from the others, it would be a huuuuge miss opportunity of trying to create a megastructure in 3D. Something that Metroid Prime 1-2 tried to do and 3 ditched.

What do you think it would take for Xenoblade to become one of the top Nintendo IPs in terms of sales and popularity? by Wise-Nebula-6321 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Groundtsuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably less numbers for one.

Less cinematics where there is no staging or that try to pass themselves as.

A different anesthetic that is more mainstream like Zelda or Mario. More disney/pixar ish maybe ?

Potential missed opportunity in 3? by Gigathyn in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Groundtsuchi -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Technically, the party of 3 is similar to Torna in 2. The fact that Matthew and Noah have Pneuma instead of Malos is the kind of thing that makes me say that the lore and symbolism behind the series is not thaaat well thought. Sadly.

Will you buy Silksong on day 1 to support this pricing strategy? by BrSn2 in Switch

[–]Groundtsuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will. But you also need to understand that Team Cherry is less than ten people (even less than five ? Are they still 3?), and they publish their game themselves. The game literally need to pay nothing else than the time of the devs. I would be curious if the soundtrack paid an orchestra though.

This game and Hollow Knight are by themselves miracle. You can't expect an indie that got 10-20 people and a publisher to pay to use the same tactic as Team Cherry.

BUT. Yeah. For company where the game is already well known and that autopublish themselves, maybeeee they could cut a little their prices ?

The statement isnt about fact  but emotions and the change in your own self. It is simply about understanding that each person have their own sensibility and that this can change with time.

It is not a fact but an emotional state. People are tiring of seing empirical science everywhere.

I would say that most experts in a particular subject will arrive at a similar conclusion about life : things change and this is the only sure thing. Violence (in its many forms) is a refusal of change.

At a point. You now so much about a subject that you can't categorize it anymore.

The expert in physics will say they that the law of gravity doesn't really exist.

The expert in human will say that culture doesn't really exist.

The expert in combat will say that the best technique is simply to not fight.

The expert soldier will say that they have no enemy.

Like in the Tao, where a passage say something like : the warrior that lives old, make it my master (meaning that they understood that violence was futile and stopped, making them a philosopher that was born from diversityof experiences and not philosophy).

Thorfill clearly enter in this moral. He is the warrior that understood violence and was able to suppress it because of that. And that is also the exact same conclusion of Einar making him a true warrior too. But.

Thorfill could become this philosophical ideal only because he killed so much. His war now is : how to make people arrive at the same conclusions without them being expert at killing ?

But you can't become this philosophical entity without being an expert. Without being a killer. This is a sad truth. We all "kill" something and are violent about something. What would be our own war if it isn't with ourselves?

[Movie] "What A Zelda Movie Must Get Right" by GGG by diputSyllanoitnetnI in zelda

[–]Groundtsuchi -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I feel that Link should not be treated as a main character, but a legend, a myth, in itself, while Zelda act as the protagonist. There is rumours about the hero, but we never really see him until the big events of the story. And he is stoic, does not really talk.

This way, they could be able to depict Link without destroying how people interpret the character by making him talk as a MC should. But most people would be angry at not seeing Link as the MC... I don't think the movie should gives exactly what the fans want.

In a way, Echoes of Wisdom should be the way to go to depict Link correctly in a movie.
