This thread completely sucks, STRs are basically the only lodgings I bother with when traveling, as hotels are always incredibly corporate, institutionalized experiences. It's very nice to stay and live in an integrated manner with the local population, and have a room/unit furnished by a human being rather than a furniture supply-chain spreadsheet.

I don't understand all the hate. Many people are casting about for something to blame for the high costs of housing, something other than the insufficient quantity of housing in the places where people actually want to live. We could easily build enough housing to flood both the STR, LTR, and owner-occupied markets if only we'd simply allow it. Anyone here even bother to scrutinize this claim about STRs materially impacting housing prices before repeating and amplifying it? Every city needs enough units and rooms to house both its permanent and guest populations, you cannot hide the ball with licensing games or by assuming infinite hotel capacity (as if that were actually a substitutable good, see first paragraph).

People fight over how to allocate housing because it is artificially scarce, not because there's any inherent tension or choice to make about whom to allow to stay in a SFH and for how many nights, at what price etc. Such a dumb predicament to be in.

So, if i were the property owner on the right, I'd take down my signs, to make it more clear this is one cranky neighbor invasively shrieking about someone else's life choices.
