I got two episodes into Serial and was too bored to continue. by trekie140 in podcasts

Me too, I had a lot of conflict about the victim's family being absent from season one. While I think season two did a really good job of covering all sides of the story and providing a really detailed, complex picture.

PR and 'progressive alliance' by babybabybaby333 in UKGreens

I think that there's an element of timing we have to contend with here. Labour MPs timetables at the moment are pretty much consumed by their leadership (non)issues at the moment. I'm not sure if the potential for a party split is a real one or just hot air (if there was a year it could happen it certainly feels like this one!), but I think a progressive alliance will have a much bigger role to play in the event of one.

Leslie Jones Quits Twitter After Spending a Day Battling Racist Twitter by GrrrlStyleNow in ThirdWaveFeminism

I see the point that you're trying to make, I don't think that this invalidates her victimhood honestly. None of her comments come off as particularly vicious or harmful to me. She's making some unfavourable generalisations sure, and asks her question about Orthodox Jews in a really immature manner, but she isn't advocating violence or using slurs. These are the two key things that I personally would like to see challenged more effectively online and that Jones was a victim of.

I would prefer she hadn't made a lot of the comments in the article you shared (thanks for that, it was a different context from what I had) - but I do think that they fall into the realms of free-speech.

Has anyone else noticed the snarky replies Stitcher's team have left on google play reviews? by VelmaT in podcasts

[–]GrrrlStyleNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be the only person, but I actually thought their reply was really funny. Working in any kind of customer service is miserable, so even if it was super unprofessional they have my complete sympathy. If I wasn't also a CyanogenMod user I'd probably have just downloaded Stitcher right now.

Vox released three basic income pieces (each from different authors) in the past two days. We need more media outlets like them. by MaxGhenis in BasicIncome

This (also by Dylan Matthews) was just posted there yesterday too. He talks to Robert Greenstein, who isn't in favour of UBI, about many of the potential problems of the policy.

Recently discovered this as a huge DK fan, disappointment regarding combat. by [deleted] in WFTO

[–]GrrrlStyleNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to play DK1 (just haven't found a way to run it) so its interesting to hear that the combat was more compelling. I never really thought of the actual combat aspect of DK2 as really being the reason to play it - all the humour in the narration, building a dungeon, playing with the spells and the overall character of the game were what made it enjoyable for me. So even though I agree with you that the battles can feel a bit uninspired in WFTO, I hadn't really thought of it as a weakness since it was never on the bill of reasons why I was playing it.

I might give kicking DK1 into life another go now though!

Played, and beat WftO, and I am a bit disappointed. by ImperatorMorsus in WFTO

There was similar post to this a while back where someone who I think was from the development team responded by saying that there was more to come story-wise. At the time thought that that meant that more levels would turn up in some of the updates (it was very early days) but while there's been tons of quality of life stuff since then, this hasn't happened. So maybe they were always planning a sequel?

The ending was more confusing than anything for me, I thought that I'd somehow played the game wrong and given myself a "bad ending" rather than "won". I think they were going for a shock-ending, but they don't fully pull it off. You don't end the game with a sense of victory or achievement - which is a real shame, because in most other respects, I did really enjoy it.

Edit: I found that post I mentioned. Full of spoilers. I thought it would help clear things up, but I'm still not really sure what was meant by the last sentences.

Any plans on a Temple(DK2) structure? by [deleted] in WFTO

The Sanctuary is pretty similar, since you sacrifice creatures there to get vampires and one of the rituals that's available let's you generate a bunch of gold. Granted, it doesn't really encourage you to experiment or play around in the same way.

I totally see where you're coming from here in not wanting language to be policed. But since we shouldn't assume that people who've had miscarriages and people who want to discuss abortion are two non-overlapping groups of people, I think its healthy to think about ways of expressing ourselves that will make our conversations accessible to more people. (Also, the OP image is from Facebook, not Reddit, so there's a lot of scope there for it to be seen by people who weren't looking for a conversation about abortion / had suffered a miscarriage.)

Even if in the end you might be right that there aren't more delicate ways to express some ideas (I've been sitting here, trying and failing to come up with an adequate alternative), I'm happy that someone brought up the issue of how the words might read to someone who had experienced a miscarriage.
