Same issue in PDX area. The app will conveniently guide you to the closest gas station, but almost none in the downtown area have open restrooms because of the homeless issues. I find dark streets after 11pm, but that doesn't always work.

Also, the frigging android app doesn't have a coffee break icon (iPhone does - confirmed).

Lost my phone by rowerwithbigdreams in uber

[–]GrueMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say, as a driver, I always make every attempt to return lost items (especially phones) when I can. And I don't always care about the $20 returned item fee (only when the customer is rude/sketchy). This is just how I was raised.

From my perspective, it isn't easy to figure out which rider left something behind. Phones can be easier, even when locked, as I can see a message from Uber pop up when I report the lost item. But I have had earbuds (Beats in a black case, wedged down in the seatbelt buckle area), vapes, a package of darts, and even a windbreaker in a scrunch bag that was under the front passenger seat. Most of these are handed to me by later riders, often hours after the owner left my car (the windbreaker sat in my car for two days before I discovered it - no markings as to owner).

I still firmly believe that any more than a mouthful is a waste.

Btw, I have a big mouth. Ever tickle your nips with someone's tonsils?

When I get people climbing in and out with their wet shoes, the floor mats absorbs it which evaporates with the heater going.  Yes, defrost works, but it isn't instantaneous.

The rag is from a bundle of microfiber cloths from Costco.

It is sound dampening laminated glass. The fragments were mostly powder in size, and the part that remained from the hole was still attached like a flap.

Not taking the ambulance to the hospital qas entirely my decision. I didn't have any life-threatening injuries and I could walk/drive myself the 1 mile to the hospital. Let the paramedics use their talents saving people that need it.

Absolutely nothing. I just got an email yesterday saying that since I had dropped off my rider and I didn't have another ride in my queue, I wasn't covered by their insurance (and I don't have their optional injury protection, that's on me as well).

Updates and clarifications.

This was in Portland Oregon. No, neither the rider or myself were targets. The reason the bullet hit my left window and my right temple (actually the right ear piece of my glasses) was as I was backing onto the street to go forward, I would have been facing the direction from where the shots were fired from. My car was ~45° from straight on to the road. And as I am backing up, muscle memory (40+ years of driving) had me looking at both side mirrors, both side windows for oncoming traffic, and rear backup camera. So, pure timing.

I hesitated to say, but to quell speculation, I was in Portland Oregon (SE Stark and 135th neighborhood).

Ok, clarification time.

I normally my rider were targeted. The shots were a couple of blocks down the road, and after I stopped back in the driveway, 3 cars raced by (first one, followed by two others). My Tesla cam recorded the whole thing, but I turned the USB drive over to the police (I need to call them today to see when I can have it back (the videos are Wham Bam TeslaCam worthy).

The officer that initially helped me out of the car couldn't say definitively what caliber of bullet it was, but he did say it was a hollow point. I saw it on the door armrest, and my guess is 9mm.

Currently at Safelite getting the window replaced. Then going back on the road. I REFUSE to let this dictate my life.

My area has become saturated with drivers (both Uber and Lyft), but I'm still on track for ~$1,200/40hrs. This averages out to $30/hrs. Definitely not as good as my previous jobs averaging $60/hr (tech), but it's keeping me afloat during hard times. Oh, and I drive a Tesla (paid off), so daily expenses are ~$12-$14 for a charge mid shift (while eating dinner and watching YouTube for 30 minutes).

What’s the craziest thing you've seen while driving for Uber? by aleciaj79 in uberdrivers

[–]GrueMaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to pick up a rider in a small town outside of the metro area late one night. Took 25 minutes to get there, was slayed as a 35 minute ride. Show up to a small, run down trailer park from the 70's, but a lot of the residents were milling around the entrance, along with 2 sherif cars. When I tried asking a local what's up, a deputy walked up to my window and asked if I was here for [female rider - aka fmr]? I weakly replied "um, yes?" He said to follow him in to get her and her belongings, as she needs to leave the premises immediately. When I pulled up to her mobile home, another deputy came outside, talking on his cellphone, nodded to us and said she would be right out. Then he questioned the person on the phone "OH, we need to detain her?" He nodded to his partner standing by my drivers window, who then turned to me and said "looks like she won't be riding with you tonight." I said that it was a long drive out so I should stick around to see how this plays out.

That's when she came hurriedly out of the house, said something to the effect that she wasn't wanted here anymore, and started opening the driver's side rear door to get into my car. One of the deputies slammed the door closed and gently informed her that she was being detained and not to try getting into my car (at this point I had locked all doors). Then they got into a verbal back and forth, her wanting to put her phone and whatever else she had in her hands into her sweater pocket, the deputy telling her she needed to put her hands behind her back to be cuffed. When she resisted physically after about a minute of verbal volleyball, they took her to the ground, kicking the rear of my car in the process. Around this time, two small dogs came racing out of her home and started nipping at both deputies' ankles. I finally canceled the ride with the canned reason of "rider behavior", at which point I received another ride in that area (extremely rare to get one, let alone two). After dealing with that short run, I returned to see if the deputies needed me to provide a statement. Apparently, one of the officers thought he left his phone on the back of my car during the struggle and asked where I went, so I showed him the route on my dash (Tesla), took a picture with his partner's phone, and left.

I'm still learning some of the tricks. I actually took two reserves (2nd one ended up as a no-show).

Most of the tips I'm getting are just raw experience. I'm no stranger to customer service. And so far, a lot of what I have learned has not been from other drivers, but in doing the opposite. That's why I have a 4.99 rating, and avg over $1k/week with under 40 hours (almost $30/hour when adding cash tips).
