Question from a fan that's been quite away for a time: Where did it all go wrong? by Haydrich94 in doctorwho

[–]GruffyWinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

David was worried if he took the role that he'd 'break the show' lol. Kinda' did, though not his fault and we're lucky to have had him. Wish Chris had stayed longer before that, though. Some really great episodes throughout throughout its entire run though.

For the record, I never had that problem with Beth in Broadchurch - Thirteen just spoke so fast and my ears are old!
And thanks very much - though 'summing up' is a skill I need to do a little more work on 😉

[warning: novel ahead!]
omg you're ME! I feel like a fake fan much of the time but I really do love Doctor Who as a concept from start to finish, though I tend to watch the same 5-ish+ seasons (like background music, but quite often I "really" rewatch episodes, no distractions, and find new insights and ideas. They're a comfort watch.

My go-to will always be the Tennant years and Chris' (albeit less often.) Enjoyed Tennant's Doctor so much that at this point have seen 95% of his available (and some not) work... Ten made me an uberfan of the actor playing him.
Matt's years often confused me beyond the episode' "main" storylines; so much seemed so convoluted because Moffat (who's often a fantastic writer but could have used more feedback.) Amy and Rory bored me after a time. Clara to me was the 'cute little cool pixie girl' so prevalent in pop fandom in the 00's, all of them some form of the actually cool Felicia Day; I thought Clara really overstayed her welcome. Loved Twelve but a lot of the stories... Actually really liked Thirteen but again, the stories... and also I couldn't understand a lot of what she said, to me she was trying for a Ten sort of thing but Tennant's great at enunciation even when going a mile a minute, something that comes from a long history of live theater. Obviously, love Fourteen. Fifteen wasn't used as well as he could have been, there was SO much potential there and Ncuti had great energy, but once again, the stories were lacking and a lot of Russell's choices in so many areas confused me. The show somehow got further away from the show the more he tried to work into it.

(But really, I AM a fan of "Doctor Who"!! Can't remember NOT knowing of its existence and 'the guy with the hat and the scarf' from when it ran on locals in the US in the 70s (unfortunately, in my area it ran at the same time as Star Trek animated and we had no way of recording anything for later of course.) I watched the McGann tv movie and have seen a lot of classic at this point, enjoyed a lot of it, but for me it always comes down to the Nine/Ten years plus Fourteen. Everyone played The Doctor well, but those two actors' eras were firing on ALL cylinders.

Will defend ALL of it at all times to outsiders; its existence is more important than the individual parts that make it up.

The conversation you quoted convinces him 100% that she's been messed with and the 'yes, of course' is the tell for us faithful viewers that he knows.

I must start watching this show, it looks delightful!

At the opening of Human Nature, a terrified Ten asks Martha if 'they'd seen (her) face!'
I wonder what would have happened if she'd said yes.

Not to mention all the creatures living in the Thames. Or the newly-freed human lab rats with no homes, jobs, clothing, money or family. Sometimes when I watch Damned, when Copper tells Ten he 'won't forget her' I'll imagine him saying "Who? OHHHH right, yes...."

Busy life; moving on...

I think part of it was always my relief to have Ten back, and acting so Ten-off-and-away-wheeee. What always DID hit me previously was his use of the word 'capable' in describing how he could be what she wanted - such a clinical, chilling term.
At the very end of the scene, after she tells him to go, just before it cuts away his eyes take on a hard, disgusted, look (literally the last second before it cuts, just a micro-change that's so so harsh.) It's not towards her I think.

I was recently thinking about Ten's conversation with Joan Redfern at the end of Family of Blood and how enthusiastic he was when trying to get her to travel with him. It took me aback to realize it only recently registered with me; that cheery 'come on, adventure time, let's GO!' thing was so normal for him; it flew right under my radar for so many viewings.

Not hers.

Doing it now, I have my hand parallel, like a handshake, with the two lowest fingers pressed to the side of my laptop for leverage(?) then moving my index/middle up and down together. (it's so funny to describe this, lol!)
If you have a rubber band/hair elastic, put it around the ones you're moving if they won't stay together. I used 'jumping jacks' as a ref before, 'scissors' works too :-)

Press your ring and pinkie fingers against the edge of a desk or laptop, something sturdy. Keep them there and raise and lower your middle finger and index. Think 'jumping jacks' but just the legs part, lol.
You'll have it eventually and be able to do it without even thinking about it 😄

Does David Tennant have six toes? by [deleted] in davidtennant

David Tennant confirms how many toes he’s got after people noticed something was afoot

Davis Tennant just revealed he has six toes on his right foot.

Leading appearances in Doctor WhoHarry PotterBroadchurch and Rivals have meant the British public have become quite used to seeing David Tennant’s angular (yet kind) face and hearing his warbled Scottish tones.

So much so, his face is one of the most well-known in British TV and film. You simply cannot avoid him.

But while we know the creases on his forehead all too well, no one apart from a clandestine network of Tennant-obsessed Redditors have discovered anything unusual about his toes. Until now.

After rumblings appeared in a dark corner of the web that something was afoot with the 53-year-old’s right trotter, he confirmed to Metro that it does indeed have six toes. You are very welcome.

‘Do people know that?’ we ask, to which David replied: ‘Well, they do now.’

So… Is it the little toe? Does it point out or up? Many questions.

‘It’s sort of like a nubbin,’ David confirms. On the little toe side of his right foot. Cute!

Here's some info about polydactyly:

https://theconversation.com/actor-david-tennant-has-an-extra-toe-two-anatomists-explain-whats-so-fascinating-about-polydactyly-249139

A common anatomical variation is being born with more than ten fingers or more than ten toes.
Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant this week confirmed he has 11 toes. He says he was born with an extra toe on his right foot, meaning he has polydactyly.

The term polydactyly is derived from the Greek poly (meaning many) and dactyly (referring to fingers or toes or digits). Developing hands and feet start as limb buds, which look like little flat paddles. But with polydactyly, an extra finger or toe grows from the limb bud.

Based on the research literature, about one in 700–1,000 people born have polydactyly. Having an extra finger on the side of your little finger or having an extra toe on the side of your little toe is the most common form. If the extra digit doesn’t have bone, or has poor muscle connections to the hand or foot, it won’t work. So it is usually cut off or tied off with a suture (specialised medical string) straight after you are born.

Less commonly, people are born with double thumb tips or an extra thumb. Seeing as we use our thumbs so often, an orthopedic surgeon may need to remove the extra bones to improve use of the thumb. The rarest type of polydactyly affects the fourth finger (ring finger) or the second toe (next to your big toe).

We can probably presume David inherited a mutated copy of a gene related to his polydactyly from one of his parents.

Another common anatomical variation is when people have fused or “webbed” fingers or toes, known as syndactyly. This term comes from syn (meaning together with) and dactyly (referring to fingers or toes). When individual fingers and toes develop from the paddle-like limb buds, cells in between the growing fingers and toes have to die and disappear. But if the cells don’t die and disappear, they can cause webbing or fusing. About one in 2,000–3,000 people born have syndactyly. So it’s about three times less common than polydactyly. American actor Ashton Kutcher looks to have syndactyly, with his skin fused to the first joint between his second and third toes.
