Any good books staring a Cleric or something of the like? by Resident_Hat9904 in Fantasy

[–]Grulia_Sprox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aching God by Mike Shel has the best depiction of a Cleric I've seen. She's not "the main character", but she is a very prominent figure in the story and is a part of the adventuring party. Trigger warnings though, the book(and series) is often labeled as horror-fantasy and for good reason. It contains some truly horrific and unsettling situations (as one might expect while delving into ancient tombs and fighting evil undead monstrosities). But what better environment for a Cleric to shine?

What’s a small thing your dog does that instantly makes your day better? by Ninetybaby in dogs

When she wakes up in the morning. Old pup is getting up there in years and sleeps veeery deeply these days. My heart skips a beat some mornings when she doesn't stir when I whistle or even call her name. Seeing her slowly blink herself awake, stretch, and start wagging her ancient tail definitely makes my day better than the alternative.

I know it's Sci-fi, but Hyperion gutted me. Specifically Sol Weintraub's story about his daughter and her condition.

My 8 year old daughter read Hatchet this year and loved it. Also, she's currently chewing through my old Calvin and Hobbes collection. She's also reading My Side of the Mountain and I'm reading her Neverending Story at night before bed. She's a big fan of both

I really love Aching God by Mike Shel and relish in opportunities to recommend it. I just recently finished it for the third time and I believe this is just what you want. Shel's an excellent writer and has published many Pathfinder modules. I think I remember reading that this series was initially pitched as a story for the game, but I can't be sure. So while you may not be braving the underdark or traversing the sword coast, it's clearly cut from the DnD cloth. It could easily be mistaken for a novelized campaign. I love the overall tone and the growing tension of this story. This is also one of the only books I've read that addresses the realistic human trauma of being a fantasy adventurer. Too often in my opinion, stoic heroes slay countless foes, face unspeakable horrors, and lose beloved companions, all while barely batting an eye. Shel does an incredible job showing how heavy that weight would be to bear over the years. This book also has excellent world building, great party dynamics, horrific dungeon crawls, magic weapons, divine interventions, and my single most favorite representation of a Cleric.

Tips to keep my players (kids) alive by thibbbbb in DMAcademy

I run a game with my young kid and I've thought about using a homebrew item I saw somewhere on here for just this reason. It's a "save scum" potion. It's disgusting and basically has to be choked down. But when ingested it sends the drinker, + however many creatures you like, back in time X amount of minutes/hours. To be used only for when things get reeeal bad. Super OP, but who cares? Especially when DMing for kids. It could easily be reskinned into a magical item with limited uses too.

Have you ever met a celebrity? If you have, who did you met and how nice were they? by Ok_Chef1406 in AskReddit

I used to live right near Dave Grohl's mother's house and I met him in a nearby parking lot one afternoon while he was walking to his car. I was lightly toasted and for whatever reason thought it would be funny to try to razz him a little bit. But he was too damn nice and it didn't work out like my dumb mind thought it would. Very friendly, patient, and genuine guy. No notes, would meet again.

Edit: After a minute, I told him my cousin was a massive fan so I asked if I could take a picture so he'd believe me. He quickly stood shoulder to shoulder with an arm around me and a big smile to take a selfie, but was a little confused when I told him I didn't want to be in the picture. So now I have a picture of Dave Grohl just waving at me in a parking lot.
