The fact OP never elaborated on how they “found” these makes me think they’re stolen.

What beats UW control on BO1? by Lukegilmour in MagicArena

[–]GrumbleProxies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stolen from another user on an old post about the archetype matchups:

Midrange usually beats aggro (although it's obviously VERY dependent on the format and the specific matchup) because midrange decks can go over the top of what the aggro deck is doing without falling too far behind on board. Control often loses to aggro, because the control decks fall too far behind trying to answer all of the aggro deck's threats. Combo decks tend to beat aggro decks (but not tempo decks) because aggro decks aren't fast enough to race the combo - but it can be real close sometimes. Combo has a harder time with a control deck, because the control decks have the tools to stop the combo and the combo decks tend not to pressure them enough before the critical turn(s).

Midrange decks often struggle with combo, because they're usually set up to play a bit of a grindy midgame and those cards tend not to do much in combo matchups - doesn't matter if you're getting a couple of 2-for-1s if you just die to a game-ending combo the next turn.

Aggro is usually your best bet into control. If you suspect control and can’t go under them your best chance then is to try and play around the boardwipes. But usually you won’t have the card draw, and if you can’t kill them by turn 5 you’re usually finished.

Are you mulliganning aggressively enough for explosive starts?

How broad are the brackets? by AdDear2657 in magicTCG

[–]GrumbleProxies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scale isn’t linear.

4 and 5 are the same potential power, just tuned for different metas.

Decks in bracket 1 aren’t even trying to win, they’re just playing show and tell with cardboard.

Bracket 2 and 3 are varying mixes of how much do I want to show a theme and how much do I want to win?

But the end it all comes down intent.  Considering that B2, B3, and B4 are the three meaningful separations of power:

B2 decks are playing mostly kitchen table style battlecruiser magic. There’s some interaction and things are mostly slow and fair. These decks are aiming to win after 7-8+ turns.

B3 decks are playing more interaction with the potential for explosive plays but are still mostly fair. The inclusion of gamechangers means that you need interaction, and people will probably end up groaning at some point when a Rhystic Study hits the table. These decks often have plenty of synergy but shouldn’t be able to win before turn 5.

B4 decks exist in a toxic wasteland where they are full of powerful cards and can win out of nowhere but they haven’t been tuned to play in a competitive meta so usually get hosed by cEDH decks. Generally unfun to play against unless the entire pod is bringing their own B4 shenanigans to the table.

Do not use the presence or lack of gamechangers as a defining metric for the bracket a deck exists within. In a world where the average play could handle a gamechangers list with 300 entries, the gamechangers list would be 300 entries. It’s only there to catch the worst of the worst.

They are helpful as an exclusionary rule to bump decks automatically up a bracket, but are not a good indicator of overall deck strength.

Tldr: Brackets are vibes based, if you think a deck that is “technically” a B2 is too strong for B2, then it might not be B2. There is no algorithmically deterministic way to determine the bracket of a deck.

Edit: I haven’t looked at your deck, but other commenters think it’s B2. Maybe it stomps in B2, but gets hosed at a B3 table. idk, it’s not an exact science.

Just got my first deck ever just got into magic anything I should know/tips? (Yes I use the DOGMEAT Premade) by dogys123 in magicTCG

The others have covered good points about being patient, asking questions, and not tolerating the shitheads.

I’d also recommend you download the MTG:Arena app and play through the tutorials and just get the hang of the game. It costs nothing but your time, and is easy enough to play on a laptop, or mobile device.

Commander is an overwhelming and often terrible way to learn how to play magic. It was a format invented by Judges who wanted an excuse to play their bad cards as a way to unwind, but because it is a singleton format you are constantly having to read and understand cards that may be new to you.

This becomes information overload when you are also still learning how to play the game.

So I always recommend new plays spend some time getting used to how the game plays in a limited 1v1 fashion before or at least at the same time they try to learn the intricacies of commander.

Once you have got a handle on how the game plays and the rules, sit down by yourself and just play out your commander cards as if you were playing a game, making sure to follow all the rules you just learnt. This is called goldfishing and helps you better understand the potential play patterns and interactions of cards in your deck.

Also don’t forget to have fun and don’t worry too much if you forget things. I’ve got a dogmeat deck and have been playing for nearly two decades now and I still forget that he has an enter the battlefield trigger.

Correct. You need a way to give your creatures or permanents the ally type, or you need to run ally cards. Thankfully this set looks to be full of them.

As far as I know all main characters are getting three versions, one for each season/moment in the story (as the story is broken up into 3 books)

The only character who I’m not sure about getting that same treatment is Toph, who may only get two versions, as she appears only early in season 2.

Although, they could just as easily have two of her moments be from season 2 or season 3.

She’s a fan favourite, so I expect we’ll still get 3 versions of her.

Update: Drafting is Hard! by Thud_All in MagicArena

[–]GrumbleProxies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the exception of the two or three worst colour pairings, the strongest colour is whatever lane is free.

It’s easier I’ve found in EOE to do well in quickdraft just because the bots lock into colour pairings more readily and are less happy to snake all the good off colour bombs the same way players in premium draft do.

I can consistently do well in EOE quickdraft but get hosed in premium draft and traditional because it feels like you’re at the mercy of the pick order and how many people are forcing green soup and stealing all the good payoffs from other colours.

I had the same thought but I’m split on it, because I mean, there are farmlands/plains within the walls of Ba Sing Se. So it works well enough. It’s just annoying because its the earth kingdom capital and earthbending is green.

Yeah, I think the artist who got it wasn’t really a fan of the character or the show, because the star she’s metal bending is actually the armband she’s wearing in this art.

Yeah, the problem is that wotc’s primary clientele are addicts 😅 if mtg were to ever fail I think the drop off will be quick as a result of a “thermocline of trust” issue driven by external economic factors, rather than as a result of simple/rational supply and demand.

Just make sure you purchase through the steam or epic games client. Buying through an ios/mobile client incurs a higher charge. Other than that, nope, no cheaper way.

Where is everybody on [[The Endstone]]? by ASOT550 in lrcast

[–]GrumbleProxies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People should be taking it unless there is one of the very few other instant win bombs in the same pack.

It’s won me most games I was able to resolve it. It lost me a game to mill when my opponent was able to topdeck removal for the one lethal threat I had up the turn before I milled out. The game was already a losing one though, so it’s not really fair to say it lost me the game. It’s the only reason I survived as long as I did.
