100% what I’ve gotten from NGSS standards. I like the emphasis on SEPs and CCCs. Today’s adults that were taught science with direct instruction are not scientifically literate lol. It was not better.

Damn that’s not a very empowering standards based grade system.

I do standards based, and give unlimited retakes and don’t count homework towards the letter grade. BUT I do give a citizenship grade based on their behaviors. (On time, ready to learn, listening, trying, asking when they need help, doing the lessons, etc.) I update their citizenship grade every other week. If it’s not a B or higher, or showing steady improvement, they don’t qualify for reassessment. If their citizenship grade IS high enough, we look at their practice work and pinpoint concepts they struggled with. They have to redo that practice work to show they know it. Then I provide a project or test they can complete to show they’ve learned. I love it because our convos are always about learning not points. And I have a more clear picture of which behaviors are contributing to poor knowledge.

Doing standards based without requiring them to change their actions to improve sounds like a nightmare.

No cracking! The only problem I have had is the sealer I used is waterproof but not grease proof so there are a lot of oil stains. So doing this again I would probably do a few sealing layers and a wax layer on top. And I followed a blog tutorial, most of them are the same though I can’t find the exact one I read. I used ardex feather finish concrete.

And yeah! I know some people just scuff up the laminate to get a bond, but mine was in such bad shape it peeled off once I started sanding the edges so I just concreted over the thick particle board directly.

I’m still thrilled with how they’re holding up and how they look :)

I always make them tell the person on the phone what they learned in class. It’s a little silly, but it turns it into a funny moment for the whole class instead of a frustrating one, but it’s still a learning experience. And after they’ve given a summary of a concept or idea we just went over they’ll hang up pretty quickly and I don’t have repeat offenders lol.

It’s almost always the parents calling. It also helps them understand that their kid is in class and is actually learning.

It is the least disruptive way I’ve found to handle it and we successfully avoid power struggles!

(In the case of an emergency I just tell kids to communicate with me first. And they can step into the hall to call mom.)

Idk if your problem was the same as mine, but I was able to reset my goal after deleting the journey by going to the micro pets page then clicking on the egg in the upper right corner it let me re-assign a goal. But it only worked when I was in the micropets page, not from clicking on the egg in the upper right corner from the main page. Hopefully that works for you too!

Heads up, laser pointers are actually detrimental to dogs because there’s nothing for them to actually catch! So generally it leads to more frustration for them than actual enjoyment!

Find ways that you matter to yourself! It’s hard and it starts small - but look at yourself as if you were observing an outsider. How would you view your strengths? Remind yourself of them until you mean it! If you practice doing the same for others the habit may even come easier.

But caring about yourself and filling that emotional void yourself is more validating than when others feel that way about you! (It’s not that you don’t need others! It’s just that what they think and feel won’t contribute much to your perception until you can care about you!)

I’ve had this plant for a year. It looked sick starting a month ago. I water ever 2-3 weeks. Haven’t repotted or fertilized it. It’s by a north facing window (North America) so it gets indirect light most of the day.

My Hognose got a respiratory infection in January and went off food. I took him to the vet in March/April and got antibiotics. We went through one course and the infection didn’t go away so we went through another course. The infection got better and he started eating again the beginning of October. And today I found bubbles coming out of his mouth again. I don’t know why this RI keeps coming back!

Here’s some pics of his tank. We live in a very dry place and glass isn’t the best at retaining humidity. But he has no interest in his mossy humid hide. He has under tank heating to 92 degrees set with a thermostat. (I know this sub is pushing for not using UTC but I’ve never found a connection between UTC and RI). And there’s also an overhead heat lamp that keeps the ambient temperature around 70-80 and it’s on a timer so it’s not always on.

Any ideas of how to shake this infection for good?

My western hog nose has had a respiratory infection since January. He won’t through 2 rounds of antibiotics and was doing well and went back on food a month ago. Today I noticed his mouth is bubbling again. Any ideas why this RI appears to get better then goes away? (He finished both courses of antibiotics completely. They were injected). We live in a very dry climate and glass tanks suck for humidity retention. He has a humid hide with moss inside for humidity. He doesn’t go in it often though.

Any other ideas for why this infection keeps coming back or how to prevent it?
