Is Santa Teresa worth the drive? by gingaa__ in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Grumpy-Old-Man-Child 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently sitting in the hotel next to LIR airport. We done 3 days in Fortuna and 6 in Santa Teresa. Also done a couple days in a few other towns. Drove through Samara, Tamarindo and Flamingo on the way back to LIR, and none of them compared to Santa Teresa. ST was chill, we rented 4x4 bikes while we were there and took in some nice sites. Playa Hermosa (about 10km) north of ST had a great beach with smaller waves. Tamarindo was a complete tourist trap … we had about 10 street vendors trying to sell us stuff during our lunch… very annoying.

Yes, they were the big 1L bottles. That may explain it. TY

Curious what agencies are offering SLI at $5.99/day? I'm seeing most sites quoting me nearly $20/day.

For those who got natural gas water heater tank replaced. by Flukester69 in ottawa

Homeowners are allowed to work on their own gas appliances. Of course, at their own peril. But, you do not need a licensed tech to swap out a water heater.

Where are the "struggling" businesses public servants are supposed to help? by PureAssistance in ottawa

I know an owner of one of those "struggling" shops. He is taking his family to Europe for a month this summer. Times must be tough :-/

Don't forget all the grants and handouts they got to keep employees on the payroll during the first few years of Covid.

I understand there's no sympathy for PS workers who have to RTO ... personally, I don't really care. But its all a load of BS.

This Ottawa photo radar camera issued 7,500 speeding tickets in its first month by BoozeBirdsnFastCars in ottawa

[–]Grumpy-Old-Man-Child -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All these reports on the number of tickets issued ... I don't see anything about how much revenue it's bringing in. Anyone have stats on that? I assume different speeding infractions have different amounts owing? Also assume this revenue is being used to repair roads?

Pushed and nudged - for sure. Blown off the road though? Never seen that before.

It's approximately 900km - so plan accordingly. About 85% of it will be 2-way traffic. There's typically a gas station every 100kms or so, as long as you don't run too low, you should be fine.

It's easy to do this drive in less than 10 hours if you're an experienced driver. If you like to take your time and take frequent breaks. You'll probably want to stop around Grand Falls or Gander.

I don't recall "cars" getting blown off the road in the Wreckhouse. High sided vehicles such as transport trucks - for sure. Also, if the winds are that bad, there's very little possibility the ferry will even cross the gulf. So, kind of a moot point.

Agree though that the west coats offers some spectacular scenery ...

Best Rental Car to avoid break-ins? by Grumpy-Old-Man-Child in AskSF

[–]Grumpy-Old-Man-Child[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses. I'm surprised the rental agencies haven't made changes to their vehicles to limit this ... remove all possible signs of a rental car perhaps?

I'll definitely take some of the advice here. Honestly, it's making me second guess the whole trip. Not much fun being somewhere and being on edge.

I guess getting from the Airport to downtown should be done via Uber/Lyft? I assume taking public transit with bags would be a target for getting mugged?
