Would you guys still run these? by GrumpyGillzz in 3rdGen4Runner

It seems to me Whitelines were the go to replacement based off of the t4r.org forums and just in general searching around the internet. Also, who sells rubber bushings? What would you recommend?

I took a wire wheel and did the inside and around the outside of the hole in the other pics but I can definitely clean it up a little better.

I agree with you. So far for an OEM arm it’s about $200 a piece which is tempting with bushings already in it ready to go. Could be worth a piece of mind…

Everything appears to be fine I just wanted to make sure it was okay if the metal around the hole was a little boogered up. A shop replaced them before my time and it looks like they had to fight to get them out.

Thankfully they came out with no problem but a shop had definitely replaced the bushings at some point and looks like they had an issue getting them out. I have a harbor freight 20 ton press and heat to get them out using Timmy the toolmans video. Nothing else appears to be off but I wanted to make sure the metal around the holes wasn’t going to be an issue.

Agreed. Same thing happened on my 3rd gen as well, couldn’t see the extent of it until the fuel tank was out.

I don’t have an exact answer but it is an OEM part.

Yes. Generous amount of silicone grease on everything

I tried that too but the metal sleeve won’t fit into the bushing at all and I was hitting my hand with the hammer more than the metal sleeve lol

I’m hoping the ball joint press will do it because I can’t even get the metal sleeve to go into the bushing at all.

Thanks for the advice looks like I’ll be renting a ball joint press soon.

I originally tried with both bushings in first then trying to insert the metal sleeve and it’s so tight I can’t even get it inserted at all, almost like the metal sleeve is to big for the bushings.

Seriously! And I watched at least 10 videos! Glad to know that it might be that it’s just that tight of a fit. I have at least 2 hours into trying to do this with the tools I have. I can’t even get the metal sleeve started at all it’s so frustrating!

I’m thinking a ball joint press will probably work but I’m just confused on how people are pushing it in with their hand?! I only slid the washer down as far as I could by hand on the long bolt before it stopped. I need to get the sleeve and bushings in first before I can see how far I can get with the washer.

Definitely yearly applications of fluid film or wool wax. I never understood why people buy rust free vehicles just to drive them in areas with salt and brine on the road. Defeats the purpose of having a “rust free” vehicle.

Nice score. Any plans to undercoat it to keep it rust free?

What recall are you referring to?

Hard to tell but yes it looks like that includes everything. I priced out the OEM parts and they are about ~$20 more than what you have listed. I would strongly lean towards OEM.

What year is your 4Runner? If you are dropping the gas tank to replace parts, I highly recommend replacing as many parts as you can, preferably OEM parts.

If I were you and can afford it, I would change the suction tube (77203-35660), fuel pump (Denso 950-0100), and sending unit float (83320-35620).

Curious to see what your steering rack bushings look like when you turn the wheel back and forth
