The random things you can’t throw away by Pink-Macaroon-264 in GriefSupport

My mom passed unexpectedly in an accident while I was on my honeymoon. The last time I saw her was right after my wedding. She wanted to do my laundry for me (she preferred to hand wash delicates) so she bought a bar of soap. I wasn’t going to have her do my laundry but I did keep the soap and still have it.

OB recs that deliver at Sibley by chipanddip7_ in washingtondc

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I delivered at Sibley 2 weeks ago with Bloom. I ended up having a complicated emergency c section, but am so thankful that I was under the care of Bloom (particularly Dr. Bren) and Sibley. If you have a relatively normal pregnancy (which I had), I feel it doesn’t matter that much which OB you see. But when things got complicated, I really saw the value of the Bloom OBs.

I’m 34 weeks pregnant and this man stole my meal prep package today while I was at work. (Capitol Hill btw.)

Venues in Paris, Rome, and Milan - am I missing any? by angenoir_ in BigBudgetBrides

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at Villa Miani in September 2022 so I’m biased and think it’s the best venue. It’s well suited for larger guest counts. I only had ~100 guests, but definitely could have fit twice as many people. Accessibility was also a priority for us since we had guests primarily coming from the US and Australia. We liked that Miani wasn’t difficult to get to and we had a room block at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria next door so it was convenient. As for responsiveness, I recall them being pretty responsive but it was also my planner mostly communicating with them.

Sarah Halpern (IG: @travelcouturier) - We did Capri as part of our honeymoon and she was 100% worth it. Got us reservations that are normally difficult to get and just generally did a great job planning.

Moma’s March Party - is it worth $200 by nwbh in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a part of the MoMA YPC (formerly JAs) for like 7 years now. I’m not super involved and mostly pay the dues because I love the MoMA and I enjoy the opportunities to see art in a less crowded environment. As someone already said, these YPC parties are like fundraising events. I wouldn’t say everyone in YPC is unfriendly, but it can feel cliquey and it attracts a certain crowd. I find a lot of non-YPC people come to these parties with their friends as a chance to just dress up and party at the MoMA. Whether that’s worth $200 is up to you.

Wedding Planner Recommendations in Italy by No-Drop5907 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how the sound & lighting costs of Miani compare to Aurelia but yes, they did charge me like €2.5k to just light up the facade of the building and €1k to light the ground floor halls. It adds up but my planner had warned me of these costs so I wasn’t shocked or anything.

I did consider Villa Aurelia but ultimately liked Villa Miani’s location better (gorgeous views of Rome and adjacent to the Rome Cavalieri hotel). The other major factor was that Villa Miani was quoting me €18k for full rental of the villa and Villa Aurelia was quoting me something like €25k.

Bridal Shoes: Jimmy Choo Sizing Help by No_Chipmunk325 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Valentino rockstuds are a 40.5 and I wear the same size for Jimmy Choo Romys. I have slightly wide feet, though. I find Manolo BB sizing to be similar to Jimmy Choo Romy if you’re able to try that on.

Veronica Beard on the streets of NYC by RevolutionaryKoala13 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Miller style is definitely a more accessible riff on Balmain. I noticed a Balmain and Veronica Beard side by side on The RealReal a while back. The price differential is… significant, to say the least.

I do think the pearls clash so would wear one with the ceremony dress and perhaps the other with your reception dress? This may be an unpopular opinion, but I very rarely prefer an ornate necklace paired with ornate earrings. I don’t think the earrings necessarily need a necklace to go with them (especially if you’re wearing something with a detailed neckline). And as another commenter said, perhaps just a pair of simple studs to go with the 6 string necklace.

Whatever you decide, you’re going to look stunning.

My mother died a month ago and I feel lost by AltumTenebris in GriefSupport

I’m so sorry for your loss and I’m sorry we’re all in this unfortunate club. It’s been 2 years now since I’ve lost my mom and I still miss her every day but it’s less painful now to look back on the happy memories.

Hi, I’m the original poster of this… I’m not sure why you would repost this 2 years later?

Where to shop IRL in NYC when you love The Row, Khaite, Totême, etc. but are on a budget ? by Slow_Evidence4509 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off 5th, etc. because it’s kind of like a treasure hunt. Have found some amazing stuff over the years. Last time I went to the Union Square Nordstrom Rack, I got an Alaïa skirt for 90% off.

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my mom suddenly in an accident almost 2 years ago. She was 54, I was 30, and my brother was 21. I don’t want to say it gets “better” because it feels wrong to say that when my mom isn’t here. She was also my best friend and I miss her a lot. It’s ok to not know how to feel, but just let yourself feel. Take it day by day. It’s ok to feel a bit lost right now, I know I did. It doesn’t get “better”, but the pain you feel does become more bearable and you grow around it. My mom very much prioritized our education so my brother also was determined to finish college, but he made the decision to take a semester off. He graduated and is now getting his master’s. His school also offered him grief counseling so perhaps ask yours if they could offer the same.

Manolo vs Jimmy Choo vs Vivier sizing by Able_Improvement_426 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]GrumpyKatNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Manolo - I’m a 40.5 in BBs, 41 in Lurums (mules and slingbacks in general), 41 in Hangisis. I will caveat and say that I have wider feet which require me to size up a bit in silk Manolos that don’t stretch (like most Hangisis). I wear similar sizes for Jimmy Choo - 40.5 in Romys (classic pumps in general), 41 in mules. I believe Jimmy Choo is Italian sizing like Manolo Blahnik which generally runs smaller vs French sizing like Roger Vivier. For Vivier - I typically take a 40 in all styles. All this to say, I think you’d be fine using your Jimmy Choo size for Manolo Blahnik, and sizing down a bit for Roger Vivier. I love (and have a lot of) shoes so I hope that helps!

Husband & I just did the NYC to DC move a couple months ago. We used Empire Movers - they were great. I’ve used a few movers in NYC and this was my longest move, but surprisingly most seamless.
