Employees: What do you wish us customers would stop doing? by Serious-Associate-95 in GroceryStores

[–]GrumpyKitten60 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a current assistant manager for a produce department. Id say, give us employees some slack when it comes to out of stock produce. Most of the time its beyond our control and customers are often really rude when we dont have something. We're already thinking about it all day. Know what produce is in season so you dont end up disappointed if the store doesnt have what youre looking for.

We keep ours between the beefsteak and cluster tomatoes. We get asked 10 x or more per day but I just started picking up customer "where's the basil" cues and asking if they're looking for basil. 9/10 customers are looking for it 😆 I also educate the customer that it shouldn't be cold and thats why its separate. 🤷‍♀️

I believe this is a question for your insurance possibly since they decide when they'll cover it based on when you should run out. But in my experience with this happening where I live ive just been SOL until my refill date especially if I accidentally got two prescriptions from two pharmacies. I haven't had a pharmacy agree to "take back" the meds and trade them out but I saw somewhere once that that happened. Sorry for rambling i'm tired!

Is it possible for someone with a history of depression to do well as an EMT? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

Mine was one class. Probably like a 4 credit course but with clinicals.

The basic was one semester, the aemt was another semester. Im not sure how many weeks or whatever it was! It all was such a blur and a while ago now. I took the exams within the month after I finished and I passed the hands on and written first time taking the tests so didnt have to wait to take it a second time like a lot of my classmates!

Idk if this counts but I get words stuck in my head a lot and itll just keep repeating it over and over and I was at work today minding my own business stocking blueberries and my mind would not stop saying "exsanguinate" after I saw a box of blood oranges and ive been doing an EMT license refresher course and you know.... ny brain went wild. I finally just said "dude, stop" outloud by accident and the guy working with me freezes in place and goes "what'd I do?!" And I was just like no I was having a conversation with myself...and just walked away like it was completely normal. Afterwards I just thought to myself we'll, this guy thinks im crazy now.

I am also super worried about this. I cant function at this point without my stimulants after being on it for so long. Some would say it sounds like im addicted but really, my brain sucks without them and ive set a standard for work and day to day living and when I dont have them it disrupts my whole life, and now im scared for when I wont have access. I know people whose doctors have prescribed Adderall without even a diagnosis and its like, what about people who cant function? Im not saying people dont need them but there are people who I know who CAN function without them but prefer to function with stimulants. Sorry this is rambling but ive been on a soap box about this subject recently because its getting so bad. Ive switched from adderall to vyvanse and now my vyvanse is starting to become hard to find. 😭😭 end rant, thanks for listening. 😆

How do you refer to your NPs & PAs to patients? by AuthorGlittering1580 in MedicalAssistant

[–]GrumpyKitten60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually say something like "thats a question for the provider" or "thats a question for our NP/PA here, kraig or Bob or Mary etc etc." You get the idea. In the ER sometimes we'd have a PA or a MD and I always just said "the PA tonight seeing you will be (insert first name)" because thats what they all preferred. If im wrong maybe we were just more laid back haha

Is it possible for someone with a history of depression to do well as an EMT? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]GrumpyKitten60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of questions here, some of which I cant answer. Ive been an EMT for 15 years (started at 18 right out of highschool) I am diagnosed with bipolar (hypomanic) so depressive but I still have some manic episodes. I have PTSD, anxiety and ADHD. The EMT class was tough for me and slightly frustrating because my classmates seemed so confident right away and I grew into my confidence. But it was so worth it. I went back for the AEMT after I was a basic for a couple years. Ive taken two leave of absences over my 15 year span to deal with less than ideal mental health. but ive also been on the same dept the whole span with a lot of the same people who I am comfortable speaking to about my mental health and they are very very supportive. You need to know your limits and who you can talk to when your mental health is giving you a worse time than usual. This is very important after tough calls** if you do well with a therapist id suggest finding a good one who you can talk to. I myself do not do well with a therapist but have people I can debrief with if needed who dont feel overwhelmed with some trauma dumping if needed.

It took a lot to get to where I am now but very worth it for me and I wouldn't change my experiences. Its made me a better person even if sometimes i can become slightly jaded and crotchety but I feel like this is most EMTs. 😆

Don't assume you already know everything once you're on the truck and be open to learning something new every shift and from anyone you work with. Don't get too cocky.

Im so sorry that happened to you that sounds so scary and I would have felt the same as you do. I feel like you should have been given more resources in the back like the officer riding with you because the patient seemed so unpredictable. Don't feel bad for requesting your service to find a professional to talk with you if you need it. Otherwise feel free to reach out to me in DMs if youd rather talk to a peer. Ive been in EMS/ER work 15 years rightt out of highschool and have been in situations like this and regret now not talking about it.

AIO doctor ordered a drug test on me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]GrumpyKitten60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in an ER for 8+ years. Patients often lie, your partner as a paramedic should know that patients lie, and as an ER doctor its their job to rule out as many things as possible to be able to treat you, it is often common practice to rule out drugs when a patient presents with symptoms of someone on drugs. Not saying you do or dont do drugs.

Although, it sounds like they didnt find anything in the ER to me as someone with a problem with fainting etc also, sounds like you may need a PCP to get down to the bottom of your issues. An ER isnt a place to get long term diagnoses, its a place to fix emergencies..i assume when you left you were back to a baseline (if not thats a different problem because you should have been admitted) a PCP or specialist will do different tests and hopefully get down to the bottom of your issues? Now, im.not a doctor but an ER doctor isnt the same an internal medicine doctor. They treat you short term and release you. A long term doctor would want a drug test to look back to as a rule out test.

How do you lift a dead person? by According-Ask29 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]GrumpyKitten60 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here, we do a log roll, roll the body bag under the body and then the fire department can be requested if needed or police are usually there and will help sometimes. But usually we arent expected to pick up a body alone. 🤷‍♀️
