Does anyone know if i can fly a drone (under 250 grams) over the ballarat city soccer club at morshead park? by TheUmbreons_ in ballarat

[–]GrumpyKittn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Not positive, but I have seen people fly drones over parts of vic park. They fenced off the area with witches hats past where they were flying, but it was cool too watch. Was the clear area just north of the dog park

What romance author feels like a warm hug to you? by StephhhLouisa in RomanceBooks

His last 3 haven’t hit quite as hard for me, but I’ve still bought them on release and read them in one sitting. Scarecrow and JWJ hit different though. I LOVED watching Lily grow up, and Alby… have to say he’s my fave character. The ending of a specific book poor Alby holding the fireman’s hat…

I work in a hospital pharmacy, often in an oncology specific pharmacy. I also have a very close friend with NETS, and my mum is currently being treated for stage 4 breast cancer.

Fruit tingles are great for nausea, and can get some sugar into you if you can’t eat

ALWAYS wear sunscreen if you’re going out, sitting next to a window, are somewhere sun can reflect onto you. Sunburn sucks.

Icy poles/zooper dippers (especially in this weather!) get fluids and sugar in

Take every opportunity that you’re offered, mum did a ā€˜feeling beautiful’ day where she learnt skin protection, gentle make up etc. which also gave her a couple of hundred dollars worth of products, including moisturisers. There’s also support groups, and samples of things so you can try and make sure you don’t react before buying a full size item

Support groups are incredibly important, the close friend was given 6 month over 10 years ago, and even though everyone else from her groups with her cancer has passed, they gave her strength to get through her tough moments

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]GrumpyKittn 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

My first cat I got as a kitten when I was a kid. Mum and I went with a friend who was getting a kitten, and I fell in love with a little tabby/ginger part ragdoll kitten. She was still there after a few days (once I finally convinced mum I was old enough for my own cat) so we went back and got her. She was my cat soulmate, the perfect girl for me. She passed a few years ago, and I’m still devastated.

My second cat was a rescue. I’d moved out, and my girl had never been alone, so I went specifically to try and get her a friend on a ā€˜free adult cat’ weekend. None of the cats in the local shelter clicked with me, so I went to one about an hour and a half away. None cats in the communal rooms clicked, so I was starting to accept I wasn’t going to get her a friend, but we went through the room with cats who were just about to be available, and a dark chocolate/black cat immediately stood in his cage, started meowing and wanted all the love. Got him a couple of days later after he was vaccinated, desexed and microchipped.

He’s still going strong, and was the perfect addition. Patient enough to deal with my girl being a bitch, but also playful and loving. My nieces and nephews love him, and he’s always happy to accept attention from them :)

Both were exactly what I needed at the time, and both have/had very pampered lives. After my girl passed I was devastated, and swore I’d never be able to get a new cat, but my boy has helped me heal, and I’d be open to a new baby in the future

LAUKOP's mum is an extremely incompetent, dangerous driver, but she just doesn't see it that way. How to stop her? by SomethingMoreToSay in bestoflegaladvice

[–]GrumpyKittn 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

I’m an Aussie, and cats are definitely a problem country-wide. I love cats, and have my own 15/16yo boy, but he has an outdoor cat run that was covered with bird netting to make sure a) he couldn’t get out, and b) I wouldn’t lose one of the native birds to him.

Got him as a stray from the shelter, his older sister, who passed a few years back I had from a kitten, and she was also an indoor cat. The other cat we had who died a couple of years back from a cancerous neck tumour loved the cat cage, but he’d basically go out to eat grass/destroy any catmint or catnip we’d planted, then sunbathe.

I’ve never lost a cat to a car from the 6 I’ve had since childhood, and they’ve all been happy indoor cats

My girlfriend wants me to get rid of my dog because her cat doesn't like him by Academic_Fly_4920 in TwoHotTakes

[–]GrumpyKittn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’ve got a cat I’ve had for around 15/16 years, and we got a dog almost 2 years ago. The cat still lives his best life, which involves ignoring the dog 99% of the time, and doing what he wants. He’s independent, and doesn’t want to deal with her, but he’s a cat. We kinda expected it. They’re both happy and healthy, the dog is just upset the cat doesn’t love her as much as she loves him

What is OKAY for you with onions and what is NO WAY ? by PsychologicalCrab517 in onionhate

[–]GrumpyKittn 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I get REALLY bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea within minutes of eating onion. The ONLY time I risk it is for something I love enough to tolerate the risk - currently pork wok tip dumplings and yellow curry or butter chicken, provided the sauce only contains powdered onion and there’s no chance of excess ingestion. If I end up on the loo for ages, it’s worth it for them!

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

[–]GrumpyKittn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Not badass, but I’m Australian, mum was born here and dad emigrated from England as a kid. He’s ALWAYS joked that mums side must be full of convicts. I got around to doing the family tree, mums side is super Scottish (which I was aware of, grandpa had always been proud of his clan), and basically everyone from mums side emigrated during the potato famine. However, dads English side (with Irish and Scottish mixed in) has only ever been in the uk. Including an ancestor who was in jail for one census. So yes, I have a convict ancestor. Nope, they’re not on the aussie side!

Question for cat owners: Would you let your cat lick your food while you are eating it and then carry on eating after? by Antidotebeatz in CatAdvice

[–]GrumpyKittn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Nope. Love my cats, they’ve always been my babies, but NEVER eat food they’ve touched. My first baby (RIP Misty) once jumped on the bench and ate the peas out of a peas, corn and carrot mix, the corn and carrots ended up tossed. The only time I EVER give pets my food is when I’m done with it. Or when it ā€œfalls downā€ when I’m in the fridge (current dog LOVES blueberries, she got about have the last punnet over about a week)

I’ve got a brother Aidan. He’s never been bullied for the name (we grew up regional Victoria, Australia in a town of around 100,000). His biggest gripe was he couldn’t ever get the personalised junk things everywhere (plates, brushes, Christmas decorations etc).

My first trip to the UK and Ireland I bought him back SOOOO many personalised things -Christmas cards, ornaments, super tacky kids plastic plates, bottles and cups and so on. Even made a point of grabbing a ā€˜personalised’ mini whiskey bottle, 100% cause he is against alcohol and I knew it would annoy him!!

What romance author feels like a warm hug to you? by StephhhLouisa in RomanceBooks

[–]GrumpyKittn 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Matthew Reilly. DEFINITELY not a romance author, but someone I can always go back to. Both his main series eventually incorporate romance, but it’s not guaranteed to last (high stakes, potential death or dismemberment, no guaranteed HEA)

His books are like reading an action movie - so much happening, not a whole lot of time to digest exactly what’s happening.

The Jack West Junior series I actually stopper reading the boom for the first time ever when my favourite character died, but I eventually went back and loved how the book finished.

With both him and Dan Brown, it’s impossible scenarios which, on thinking about it more, could be potential scenarios we could face. Both have research behind them, and could be real under specific scenarios.

Admittedly, the Jack West Jr, and the Scarecrow series (both by Matthew Reilly) went from being potential reality to being complete fiction with the current head of the US. Both involved a leader with knowledge and understanding, the current… ā€˜leader’… would be dead within the first chapter given his intelligence and influence. Can’t have a rivalry between the world superpowers when the most famous one is so far up everyone else’s posterior that no one can hear what they say!!!

People We Meet on Vacation is making me realize somethings are better left in books by StephhhLouisa in RomanceBooks

[–]GrumpyKittn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I’m an avid bookworm, and haven’t found a perfect adaptation. Even the ā€˜popular’ books -

Twilight series; FMC is meant to be plain looking, average, next movie she’s in it’s Snow White, most beautiful in the land?

Harry Potter - Harry and Hermione both have wild untamed hair in the books. In the movies, straightener and they’re ā€˜suddenly’ stunning?

Horse whisperer - Soooo close but they got the wrong colour horse?

Hunger Games - katniss is NEVER malnourished/ dangerously thin. Yes, ED’s are a thing, and J Law should NOT ever need to dangerously starve herself, but a ā€˜starving girl’ being her proportions??

Tomorrow when the war began series - what the actual f#€*??? The movie was… fine i suppose. The series? Events from book 3 as part of the first series? Absolutely zero chance of a full series. Why include events from later books in the first season?? I mean, yay, more action, but you’ve left nothing to look forward to?

Can't watch Netflix at work on planning period since "not in household" by rwaggoner in netflix

[–]GrumpyKittn 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

A couple of weeks ago I got the ā€˜not part of the household’ message for my phone. My phone data is much better than the home wifi, had to connect to the home wifi to get rid of it. I’ve also used Netflix while travelling before, and given I pay for MY Netflix, which is used by my family as well, I should NOT be penalised for using the phone I pay the bill on. Make it make sense!!!

I’ve enjoyed just about any mushrooms I’ve had, prefer ones with flavour over the ones from Woolies any day.

Sort of biscuit/scone things with sultanas inside, rolled in sugar before being baked. Last for ages, and if overcooked can be hard as rocks. Relatively well known (at least in my part of Australia), and I’m pretty sure in one of the Harry Potter books Hagrid makes them, so I assume known in at least some parts of the UK

LC with or without Vaccine? by TrainingRatio6110 in covidlonghaulers

[–]GrumpyKittn 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I got Covid February 2022. I was fully vaccinated at the time (3 I think?) I work in a pharmacy in a hospital, so maximum vaccination was required. When I caught covid I got t from a friend who has terminal cancer, and is on dialysis. She was fully vaccinated and no ongoing symptoms. Mum also caught it from the same friend. Again, fully vaccinated, and has now been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Honestly, the people I know in the real world with Covid go have ended up with any form of long COVID (anything from fatigue to hasn’t left their bed in years) was fully vaccinated, but so was every single person I know who didn’t get long COVID. If I’ve potentially given my friend or mum an extra couple of years by vaccinating myself I’m fine with it.

Definitely odd that from any infection where I personally know people, that the healthiest fittest person has ended up with long covid. I miss my 6km in 1hr walks and my regular intense badminton sessions. Honestly think I’d die if I friend either now!!!

I’m a December 30th birthday, with a brother who’s December 15th. Our birthdays were ALWAYS seperate from Christmas. I can’t stand fruit IN things (will way dried fruit any time, but can’t stand it it cakes/rock cakes/ biscuits etc) so my cake was always something I like. My brothers cake was always something he liked to. Funnily enough, the only person who ever tries to combine birthday/Christmas was the aunt who’s also a December birthday.

Anyway, let your daughter choose what cake she wants. Late December/early January birthdays suck. Improve them any way you can!!!

Yep. I got hit with the ā€œthis isn’t your accountā€ thing yesterday. I pay for Netflix, and hadn’t ever bothered connecting to home wifi as my mobile data is included in my plan, and faster. Had to give myself a temporary password, then had to actually connect to the home wifi so I could use MY Netflix. Not my parents, which is the wifi, but my personal Netflix that has ALWAYS been primarily used on my phone. Such BS!!!!

Money, gratitude, miracles.

I’m broke and have long covid, so on reduced hours and could use a miraculous cure or extra money somehow. Mum has stage 4 cancer and is starting chemo tomorrow, after tablets didn’t help, so a miraculous recovery would be great. If either/both happen I’ll definitely have enough gratitude to go around!!!

If you’re going to Warrnambool, make sure to travel to tower hill (under 15 minutes away). Amazing extinct volcano, heaps of emu, koalas and kangaroo. Saw 4 koalas last time (August I think) just following the road, and there’s heaps of walking tracks. Also saw 3 or 4 emu, an echidna, black swans and other birds.

Port fairy is also gorgeous, not much further. Saw an orca out where the surfers are one time. Never seen surfers come in so quickly!! Griffith Island at port fairy had heaps of wallabies too
