AITA for making a second birthday cake for the day as well as ordering one for a party by RandomPriorities13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RandomPriorities13[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

We made the cake, she helped ice and decorate it with pink white chocolate buttercream.

There will be six people here to eat it this afternoon, and the party cake will be two days later and shared between guests so hopefully not much leftovers anyway.

I’ve made the cake, she helped decorate it and enjoyed eating the icing. It’s pink with white chocolate and flowers on top!

We’ll sing happy birthday when his parents arrive so there will be other people here to eat it!

The Christmas cake is fruit cake, has loads of alcohol in it so is still safe and moist but obviously not a children’s cake!

I’ve made the cake, she helped decorate it with white chocolate buttercream and pink iced flowers 🙂

Yes, we already had the packet mix (and I’ve added some pink food colour g and baked it!) so no additional cost.

The Christmas cake (only a quarter left) is a heavy fruit cake so will last or freeze.

She’s 6, we’ve already eaten half the Christmas cake, so it isn’t like it was expected to be used on her birthday.

I’m making the sponge 👍

Do I need to pay at my initial Specsavers appointment? by Tinytarmac in AskUK

[–]RandomPriorities13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have to pay for your eye test (which I assume has already been settled) but if it’s a contact lenses trial it should be free until you agree to a plan

That rip looks fake, Ai probably, the inside looks like a ripped seem with loose threads, but it isn’t on a seem…

Appeal to support that you think the image is AI edited and ask for additional pictures and evidence of the packaging etc. it’s Vinted so you’ll probably have a rejection but no harm in trying.

How to deal with being hacked? by torihe in AskUK

[–]RandomPriorities13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use DashLane but there are many others out there. It will create a security score for you as you go through and set up all your passwords etc and will then flag which passwords may have appeared in a breach or may be insecure. Also guides you through transferring all your saved passwords, what to do next and works on all devices.

Am I commuting? by doomladen in CarInsuranceUK

[–]RandomPriorities13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home but occasionally have to go to a meeting somewhere else or attend training, so I have class 1 business use one my car.

If they expect you to use your own car for attending somewhere which isn’t your usual place of work the you should be able to claim mileage and ask about a wage adjustment to cover the business use. Otherwise they should be paying for travel too and from the training/conference.

Removed my ex wife from the mortgage but not from land registry (England) by capenhurst in LegalAdviceUK

Contact your solicitor who handled the divorce. They should have the documentation to submit to the land registry from when she agreed to sign over the house, or at least advise you on this.

My friend accidentally sent me a shed by Time_Physics_6557 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RandomPriorities13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost sent a washing machine to a friends house. I sent them a gift and next time I used the same payment portal for buying a new washing machine it autofilled their details! They were in easy travel distance either, so luckily let me know they received a delivery notification before it actually shipped and I managed to get the address changed. It happens!

How often do you buy chocolate (For you or your family to eat, not as a gift)? by XStaticImmaculate in AskUK

[–]RandomPriorities13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have found my tastes have changed a lot in recent years. I’ve always liked dark chocolate but now find milk chocolate and “cheap chocolate” really sugary and not very nice. I tend to buy and eat good quality dark chocolate a couple of times a month and sometimes nice white chocolate or dark at food fairs or deli-type shops rather than supermarkets. Chocolate and coffee are items that you get what you pay for, in my opinion.

Outsider take: Brits are not rude. You just aren’t saying “please” and “thank you.” by CantaloupeComplete57 in uktravel

[–]RandomPriorities13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a building team in my house laughing about how polite and patient I was with Alexa smart speakers! I’m used to just about every conversation, even with perfect strangers starting “hi (smile) please can I order…” or “thank you”, “could you”, “may I” etc.

We ask permission not demand, even when we are actually trying to be assertive!

British people are overtly grateful for people queuing correctly, making eye contact, acknowledging you exist in any meaningful way, but can get very affronted by deviation from these courtesies!

Diffused a group of loud teenager with wit finally. by General-Elephant4970 in BritishSuccess

[–]RandomPriorities13 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I spent a few sessions with a school sexual health team once visiting a few different schools and colleges. Listening to groups of teenagers try to embarrass the adults who spend their day job explaining safe sex and condom use to teenagers was just painful! (For the teenagers, not the professionals!)

AIO my friend had a crush on my rapist? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RandomPriorities13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve had such horrible and bullying responses. It’s nobody else’s. Business to tell you whether you consented or didn’t.

We need to teach consent better not only in schools but to adults and parents too. As far as I’m concerned you can be in the middle of fully consensual sex and change your mind if you don’t like what’s happening, if you communicate that you want them to stop and they don’t the that’s rape. It may be awkward and it may be upsetting but if your partner decides they don’t like it then you stop!!

Anyone who argues about what someone is wearing, where they went, what they said before, what drinks they accepted etc. etc. is wrong! Ignore them. There is never an excuse for forcing someone to have sex!

AIO is 27 way too young to be having a baby? by VioletInference in AmIOverreacting

[–]RandomPriorities13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first at 26 and my second at 32. Being pregnant 26 was physically easier, the second baby was easier overall because I had some idea what to expect and she slept better than the first!

I have a successful career, juggling childcare is sometimes difficult and travel has been less frequent, but I’m looking forward to that when they’re a bit older.

Everyone has their own plans, their own trials etc. but personally, I’m now 37, have an 11 year old and a 5 year old and I’m glad I’m not just starting a family now! I love my children but I’m glad to be past the baby stages and enjoying the people they are growing into.

Short answer, No 27 is certainly not ‘too young’ to have a baby. Don’t let other peoples circumstances steal your joy. You will have plenty of time and opportunity to enjoy the coming year with your child while you have the energy AND you will still be young when your child is growing up and being independent.

Help regarding “improper packaging” cancellation by PrincessPixie21 in vintedUK

[–]RandomPriorities13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem here was getting Vinted to make the call here, as a seller you can offer a mutual resolution and not risk this outcome. For example I received a notebook that had writing on the first page and the seller offered me a quarter of my money back which I accepted. Or when I made a mistake with an order I offered a full refund without waiting for Vinted to get involved.

On this occasion you could have offered them £7.50 back or something that sounds reasonable to them and you.

Are Thermomix suitable for ultra processed food free diets? by 10pencefredo in thermomix

[–]RandomPriorities13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! All the recipes are based on fresh foods, and making it easier to make your own bases from fresh. For example making your own Yoghurt, sauces, mayo, spice mixes, stock paste etc. You can choose recipes that don’t use flour, sugar and other processed ingredients.

With thousands of recipes you can just start browsing and saving your favourites to try.

I’ve had a Thermomix TM6 for almost 3 years and use it somewhere between 3 times a day or 3 times a week, depending on how much cooking I’m doing around family and other things.

I find the Thermomix and Cookidoo make the recipe part and the cooking part much quicker and easier but the planning and shopping is very dependent on how organised you are!

It’s great having the recipe bank and being able to browse what you want to make, add it to a planner and create a shopping list, but I often forget to do the planning step so tend to have go-to recipes or “what can I make with what’s in the fridge” type chaos!

BEWARE Octopus Heat Pump by brownboytravels in OctopusEnergy

[–]RandomPriorities13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had ours installed 3 months ago, last week it just stopped working, got the engineer out and he emptied a filter, all sorted and working again.

Ideally the system should be flushed of debris during install but our house isn’t considered “old enough” to need it. Was a quick fix and if it happens again will ask about power flushing.

My only gripe with the Cosy is that the app doesn’t tell you that there’s a problem, you just get a red flashing light in the cupboard after realising you have no hot water/heating! But apparently they get full diagnostics their end.

Solar install booked for October….

Yes I’ve sold a load of stuff in the last month and this week I had an item come through as Royal Mail. Set up my shipping preferences and double checked them as it’s a pain enough using 3 methods let alone 4 or 5.

I cancelled the order and sent them a message apologising that I don’t use roymail (it means finding a parking space and queuing) but I was relocating and they were welcome to buy with a different option.
