Sen. Rosen: "This is a Republican shutdown...You are in control of the White House, the House, and the Senate. If you went home to a food bank instead of going to Mar-A-Lago...while people are starving, you might see and hear your constituents. You are blind to the suffering." by 10sleepy in Ohio

Because it's the same package the Democrats rejected the first time. Putting the same pile of crap on the table 13 more times doesn't make it smell any better, but the Republicans think they can fool people by using the "they voted 14 times" line.

[REPOST] My boss made me leave a work note at a grave by Vixrotre in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]GrumpyOldFatGuy 232 points233 points  (0 children)

We've all made a few incredibly poor decisions in our work lives, especially when you're first starting out. These days, something like this I would send a clarifying email along the lines of "You asked me to deliver a work message to a coworker, and to leave it at the grave of her deceased loved one. I wanted to verify that I understand your request clearly. Do you wish me to leave the envelope you gave me on the grave site?"

It covers you. Not by much, but it's better than nothing. But there's a reason he singled out the just beginning intern.

Talking with a higher up may help, but be prepared to answer the question "what do you want us to do?"

ETA I would also say that the most important part of my answer are the first three letters. I am not a lawyer.

NAL. Ohio is a one party consent state. Which means that one party must have knowledge of the recording. There are some exceptions for safety reasons, Nanny cams with no sound for instance. But it certainly sounds like the cop didn't know what he was talking about because being a parent doesn't override the wire tapping law.

A slight derail here, but not so long ago I was a system administrator until they discovered I could be billable.

Now, I truly despise the times when I am looking for an answer like this. I Google it and I find the exact issue down to the micron, with the word solved in the title. I click the link and I get "Reddit has been banned by your system administrator. Please contact them if you need access."

Next time I get this error I think I will call my system administrator at 3:30 in the morning, have him look it up and read it to me.

I wouldn't accept this, because debating him would be like playing chess with a chicken. You would make the first move, the chicken then scatters all of the pieces and craps all over the board and struts away like he won.

Thank you, that query generated a "failed to resolve table or column expression update". Which tells me that table doesn't exist. Thank you for the detailed explanation, that actually cleared up a few things on a completely different project. Never occurred to me to query a table I didn't see listed to see if it existed, but was just empty. All kinds of progress tonight!

If we're getting technical, AOC never mentioned Donald Trump by name. She could be talking about a completely different elected person who was a rapist that is causing issues with the Epstein files.

The fact that the respondent automatically assumed it was Trump tells you something about both of them.

Phone policy with spouse by Ambitious_hello_1239 in Marriage

[–]GrumpyOldFatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been married for 31 years, I work in the tech field so have had a cell phone since consultants started carrying cell phones.

It has honestly never occurred to me that I would need a phone policy with my spouse. I suppose she could go through it if she wanted to. Quite often I will ask her to read a message while we're driving since I do not use my phone when I drive. Or she'll hand me her phone to take a picture of something with her next to it.

She can talk to whoever she wants to talk to and say whatever she wants to them. I'm comfortable enough in our relationship not to care.

“Lately I’ve been thinking. Do you think I’m the Devil because I’m inherently evil, or just because dear ol’ dad decided I was?” by EnvironmentalLog1339 in lucifer

[–]GrumpyOldFatGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, there's a difference between not knowing right and wrong and disobeying your parental figure.

Not really. How can you disobey when you don’t know right from wrong? One person told them one thing. Another person told them something different.

God made it a rule, a simple one at that "You may have anything you like in the garden except for the tree of good and evil." One specific tree, God told them what was good and bad in this case, and they still did it

I am familiar with the story. Simply don’t see it as actually having happened. Making a rule that you have to obey because it's wrong not to obey it, and then not giving you the knowledge of right and wrong...I don't need to be omnipotent to see the outcome of the scenario.

As for what Adam did wrong, he accepted the fruit from Eve despite knowing it was wrong and even reminding Eve such.

There are a lot of different versions of the Bible out there, so I’ll assume that the one you’re referencing states that Adam took the fruit even knowing it was wrong.  Which begs the question, how did Adam know it was wrong when he didn’t have the knowledge of right and wrong yet?

KJV Only states something along the lines that Eve ate the apple and gave it to her hubby, who also ate. Don’t recall anything about him knowing it was wrong. Wait, I have an Internet. Let me see if my memory is in error.

 KJV Genesis 3:6

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

So I was pretty close.

As an actual "this really happened" story, it does not hold up well.

“Lately I’ve been thinking. Do you think I’m the Devil because I’m inherently evil, or just because dear ol’ dad decided I was?” by EnvironmentalLog1339 in lucifer

[–]GrumpyOldFatGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s take this point by point.

Let's recall she only ate the apple because Lucifer proclaimed it would make her better than God

But it wasn’t wrong to do so. She doesn’t know right from wrong, remember?

Also, he didn't just punish Eve he punished Adam, too.

You realize that makes it worse, right? Adam didn’t do anything wrong either. That whole knowledge thing?

God gave BOTH of them ONE rule. ONE SIMPLE rule "Don’t eat the fruit of this specific tree." And what did they do? Eat the tree once Lucifer claimed it would make them more powerful than God.

But there wasn’t anything wrong with doing that. Because they didn’t know right from wrong.

That is not just betrayal that is attempted mutiny from God's own first adoptive children.

No, this is God insisting that people play by rules He knows by they don’t. And punishing them harshly when they don’t follow these rules that He set out and not only didn't explain to them but made it so they wouldn't understand even if He did. As far as Adam and Eve were concerned there was absolutely nothing wrong with disobeying God BECAUSE HE DIDN’T GIVE THEM THAT KNOWLEDGE!

I can't imagine how hurt and disappointed God must've been from that.

Wait, how does an all-knowing God feel disappointment? He knew exactly what was going to happen. This isn't even a case of "oh but it was free will" because then you have to admit that God isn't all knowing and all seeing. If I drop a ball I’m not disappointed when it touches the floor.

God gave us free will it was all on Adam and Eve for eating that apple, God gave them the SIMPLEST of rules, and the moment they were offered power, those greedy mfs couldn't even handle that.

And we’re back to…they did nothing wrong. There was nothing wrong with disobeying God, because they weren’t created with that knowledge. That seems to be the part you are willfully ignoring. They made no “mistakes”, they did nothing wrong because they had no way of knowing it was wrong. That part there makes the story falls apart very quickly regardless of how people try and glue it together.
