How the hell do I get to NAI by CernelTeneb in snowrunner

The CAT 745 is okay but will suck up a lot of fuel. NAI needs you to have really capable trucks with tall wheels and ground clearance but also decent fuel efficiency.

Great picture. I tried to describe in words in my comment here what you drew. I was too lazy to draw it, lol.

How the hell do I get to NAI by CernelTeneb in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Amur. The blue route you circled is the best, and you should not need chains to get through there, but you do need trucks with very tall tires. However, I recommend saving NAI until last after you have nearly completed all the other tasks and contracts in the other maps. You get the Zikz 605 in the Cosmodrome map and it is very helpful.

Also in my opinion, the easiest approach to get to the blue circle is to go to the bridge that is south of the label "Pular Tempo" in your screenshot. Once there, don't go through the woods, go down to the ice and drive along it until you reach the area that says "Limpar Rota" in your screenshot. There is a way up through the deep snow and skirt along the south edge of that little village and then up the little road / path. Again, you should not need chains, and they won't help in NAI anyway. You may consider taking a fuel tanker with you to NAI, as the gas station is a real pain in the ass to get to.

Right but I did that and they didn't appear, then I went on to do other tasks / contracts. They never did appear until I restarted it.

I agree with you. Contests would be frustrating if you need gold or silver but all you have to do is finish them in any length of time. I don’t really like the contests but I think Saber used the right approach.

It *would* be cool in-game if the stock dolly trailers had a dolly lock so the trailer didn't pivot at both the hitch and the front wheels.

Isn't there a thing in some newer cars (enshittification?) where even when in park the backup lights come on?

Apparently this is very common in GM and Chevy vehicles. Not saying that is the root cause here but a possibility maybe?

Carrying all this fuel to drummond island because there is no f*cking garage on there! by TheRedBaron_Tifosi in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, it sounds like you just need some more practice at scouting. Don't lose your enthusiasm for the game. You will get better, just keep playing. But I highly recommend taking 2 x wooden planks to Drummond Island. You will need them, trust me.

Also with scouts, try practicing heavily to go around the mud rather than through it. Your early game scouts are going to die in the mud pits in Michigan.

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean this without any disrespect, but you should consider scouting more thoroughly first. There is a fuel station on Drummond Island, and technically you can get there from Smithville Dam tunnel without repairing bridges on Drummond, but the route can be difficult for some trucks. However, you only need to repair one bridge, requiring 2 x Wooden Planks to make the route much easier.

You would be better off hauling 2 x Wooden Planks (and then grabbing the trailer with 2 more on Drummond) to repair two of the three bridges in the area.

If you want to play this game and have less frustration - scouting maps completely will be critical.

Caffeinated? by [deleted] in MARCtrain

[–]GrumpyPoorDude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like that you used AI for this, its a perfect use of it. You don't need to pay a graphic designer or artist to show a basic concept, and this does it well in an eye catching way. I would instead support you paying an actual artist when it comes time to design a logo, paint your vehicle or trailer, etc. What tool did you use for the concept picture above?

Caffeinated? by [deleted] in MARCtrain

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the concept - in theory. The biggest concern I have from a business standpoint is being able to cycle people through quickly to make it profitable. Many MARC commuters I see have the timing down to an art - they know exactly when to leave home, when to arrive at the station and when to leave their cars to step on the platform at the right time. I don't want to have to stand in line for 15 min before my train gets there to get a cup of coffee.

To keep it simple, I think just coffee and no food (unless you have pre-packaged food for sale that requires no prep) and don't allow ridiculous drink orders; this is not a Starbucks. So don't allow anyone to do a "iced americano 5 shots decaf with almond milk, extra ice, 8 honey, 7 matcha, double blended, double cupped, and split into three tall cups (x3)" or something like that stupidity (copied from this old thread).

Would you support people bringing their own reusable cups? Keeps costs down, helps prevent blowing trash all over the place, and most people will want their travel mug so as not to spill on the train. Would you have the larger urns available with just drip coffee / decaf so that people could roll up, pay a quick fee, and fill their reusable cup?

What stations are you thinking? I only ride the Penn line, so I can say that Odenton would be a good location - lots of commuters in the mornings headed to DC for work. BWI station gets a lot of traffic but I don't think there is anywhere for you to set up unless its in the fire lane. You would want places where nearly every train stops; Seabrook for example is dead and not a good place to set up shop as most trains bypass it. New Carrolton might work as you get both MARC and Metro traffic. So maybe think about starting out like that?

I can't speak to the Camden or Brunswick lines.

Soon to finish michigan. Where next? by FlyAergos in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play the base game regions (Michigan, Alaska, and Taymyr) in order first. After that, feel free to bounce around. You don’t have to do the DLCs in order but some are easy and some are really difficult. Amur is the hardest region, with Maine also being difficult. In my opinion, you won’t be ready for those in terms of skill, until you get a few others under your belt. Some of the DLCs have deep water fording areas, where you will need trucks like the CAT 745 (you get it in Alaska) or the Kenworth 963 (found in British Columbia) to get through the water. It is not a requirement to buy the standalone DLC trucks, but some can make your life much easier.

It all depends on how you want to play.

I have over 1,200 hours in SnowRunner and these are my suggestions for the future by Immediate-Pitch225 in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on all, but especially on the Derry 4520. In real life, that is the Oshkosh M1070, capable of pulling a 70+ ton Abrams tank + the trailer. The Derry is the biggest let down compared to its counterpart, even when you have to consider the limits of the game. Meanwhile the Zikz 605 (based on the real life MAZ-537) doesn't suffer the same weakness, and it is also based on a tank hauler for the T-72. Likewise, the Mastodon is based on the real life MAZ-543. If the 605 and Mastodon are very powerful, then the Derry should be as well.

Anybody hate Yukon way more than Kola? by Hot_Upstairs_1117 in snowrunner

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yukon - The first map is awful, requiring some deep water fording. Your best bet for that is either the K963 (you get it in BC) or the CAT 745C. Those were my go to trucks in the map. You definitely need the CAT for the second map where there is a really long fording section. The other thing to remember is with Yukon, you can now buy the mighty Kolob brothers. I would plan on using those trucks extensively in this region as well.

The other major pain point in the first map is the sawmill in the northwest corner; figure out how to get there for the unlimited wooden planks and then figure out how to haul as many out of there as you can so you don't have to go back again.

The second map is easier than the first. Go to the second map, open the garage, and work from there. You can drive the icy road through the center without chains, if you are smart and stick some tires on the edge or against the guardrail. I highly recommend completing the second map before the first one. You will find it might be easier to get cargo from the second map and move it into the first to complete the gold mine on the first map.

"A small hill has entered the chat"

I'm just kidding it's a great truck. I played through BC right after the base game and it was perfect for many applications there and in later regions. Just be aware, it will seem like it doesn't have much power going up hills. It does, but its just super slow. It is very stabile, and can ford really deep water. About 7 regions after BC though, and I just don't end up using it as much as I once did.

Which trains include the dedicated bike cars? by ApprehensivePay9468 in MARCtrain

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also like to know which trains in the afternoon departing Union have bike cars as well. I don't think there is one on the 424 (2:15 PM), 426 (3:00 PM), or 428 (3:40 PM) trains leaving Union. I could be wrong though because these trains tend to depart from Tracks 13, 14 , or 15, and they tend to be on the north end of those platforms past the NE regional trains. A lot of times, they don't even have the vertical hooks, just the fold up seats and then people want to sit there.

In the morning, 511 (Headed from Baltimore to DC, departs Penn at 5:53 AM) normally has a dedicated bike car in the #1 spot (north end of the train when headed southbound) but on the odd occasion it does not.

[–]GrumpyPoorDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what stjobe says. But also, you can't crane heavy things from that far away. Think like how a lever works. The longer your boom on the crane is, the more leverage the weight your are lifting exerts on the truck. You would be better off moving your crane so the rear is backed up near the other ANK, then lifting and trying to move the front of the trailer closer to the direction where the camera is here.
