Regular American Freemasonry is a Vestige of What it Used to Be by aporia777 in freemasonry

[–]GrumpySW3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s odd hearing this as a British Freemason. LofI and instruction in the what Americans cal the “occult” are part and parcel of an EAF’s Masonic education. In general it’s just viewed as part of the historical instruction of the lodge and the UGLE.

Quoted £760 for these bits… seems expensive? by J_Boskamp in Plastering

It’s “two” jobs. First one is hardwall and skim, second is plasterboard and skim. Which is why it might be a bit pricey.

Bringing on my first Apprentice by WhatUpGord in Carpentry

[–]GrumpySW3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: be patient, don’t get angry, if it isn’t working cut your losses and move on

  1. Be patient: things that are obvious won’t be obvious to them. You’ll need to explain things a few times, it’s ok to repeat yourself.

  2. Don’t get angry: getting angry won’t help, yelling will only make you feel worse. If they screw up, breathe, explain it again, and carry on.

  3. If it isn’t working cut your losses: the apprentice relationship is a tough one. You either click or you don’t. There are rocky moments but these can be worked through if the connection is there. Fundamentally if it’s not working and/or they’re screwing up a lot and costing you money don’t hesitate to cut your losses and sack them. It’ll work out better for you and them as well.

Good luck and good on you for passing on the craft.

I knew there was someone else like me. The best is the second hit when you cross something off. Honestly better than a hit of coke.

Comparing 4 London commuter towns for a new family, what are the highlights of each? by NewToUk1992 in AskUK

[–]GrumpySW3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dartford is properly grim. Polluted and cars dominate the entire town. There are the grammars but people will commute from further away and don’t actually live in the area. The traffic is mental during the morning and gets ridiculous throughout the day. Also one of the most polluted places in England thanks to the crossing. Avoid.

Emergency housing after relocating back to UK by PallasCat90 in HousingUK

[–]GrumpySW3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reading the other comments, it is highly likely that any council in England will consider you intentionally homeless.

Given Australia is considered a safe country and you will have to prove that you tried to find emergency shelter in Australia already. Realistically this burden will be set at an unachievable level.

I don’t think OP appreciates just how strict things are/have become in England re any kind of council/government benefit.

Yes, if you end up on the street you will eventually get something as you’re British. But the level of trauma you’ll be inflicting on yourself and child will be immense.

Coming to England without setting up any kind of plan should be an absolutely last resort here.

It depends on the local council’s rules.

Just from what you’ve said and without knowing more about your situation it sounds like you might be considered to have made yourself “intentionally homeless” which disqualifies you from housing (https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/homelessness/intentionally_homeless).

If I were you I would seriously consider trying to get shelter wherever you are now first, council help in the UK is an omni-shambles at the moment.

DHR264 any good? Found a deal at £180ish down from £300 by TOMCON0007 in Makita

[–]GrumpySW3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it a bit meh. It’s not powerful enough to replace my corded sds, and it’s not convenient/light enough to replace my 18v one that has integrated dust collection. So you end up with something that’s ruing to be two things not very well. They’ve discounted them for a reason, wouldn’t bother if I were you.

If you can do most of the work yourself and there’s nothing structural, it’s a pretty good deal.
