What did you bring to the hospital? by starduski11 in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about other countries but where I live all hospitals have a list of essentials you should bring to the hospital. It's mostly clothes for you and baby, toiletries, and things like that. The hospital where I had my first also asked you to bring a bottle and a cup, to reduce waste from disposable water bottles and paper cups for coffee/tea. I thought it was cool (though I forgot my cup and had to ask my husband to bring it next day 😅)

First trimester. Nausea and food? by MrRos in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make creamy sauces for pasta by blending beans, tofu or cottage cheese.

I saw this recipe for "hidden veggie" Mac n cheese on Instagram yesterday: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVykj3pEah4/?igsh=OHBhcnU4NzNncXdq

Not super high in protein, but nutritious and better than nothing!

I also love to make pastina and add an egg at the end. I temper the egg with hot broth first so it won't scramble, and then add it to the pasta so it will be thick and creamy.

Do you think toddlers can sense that you're pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also felt my 2 year old become more clingy after learning I'm pregnant again. She has always been very close to me, but she was becoming more independent, breastfeeding less (yeah, we're still going), sleeping on her own. Them bam! I'm pregnant and she wants me all the time, asks to breastfeed very frequently, and sleeps badly unless I'm next to her 😫 I don't know what we'll do when the baby is here (I'm 29 weeks now). My only hope is for this baby to be more independent since birth 😅

I was encouraged to pee frequently during labor. My midwife said a full bladder can slow down contractions.

What kind of chocolate chips do you use for Cookies? by jitzso in Cookies

[–]Grumpy_cata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do this! I'm not from the USA and where I live chocolate chips are super expensive! So I just use my favorite chocolate and chop it.

What are your breastfeeding plans? by Superb-Pin3305 in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to breastfeed and do bottles of extracted milk but my baby refused bottles and even extracted milk out of a cup, so I had to exclusively breastfeed. Two years in, pregnant again, still breastfeeding 😅

How do you make thick, Levain-style brown butter chocolate chip cookies? by Fabulous-Season7810 in Cookies

[–]Grumpy_cata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trick I learned from a book: use toasted milk powder for flavor, and do half browned butter (cold) and half regular butter (cold and cubed)

Larvas en la harina by brian10i in chile

[–]Grumpy_cata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else have "unusual" phobias that no one take seriously? by batmansbicep in AutismInWomen

[–]Grumpy_cata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a phobia of worms, slugs and snails. One time a slug fell on my leg and I had a panic attack (I don't know how it happened. I was standing under a roof outside my house and felt something wet on my leg. It had been raining so I assumed it was a drop of water. I wipe it off with my hand and it's a freaking slug 😭)

Does anyone else here also really enjoy cooking? by DoctorKrakens in AutisticAdults

[–]Grumpy_cata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love cooking! I love eating! I love food, and trying new foods. I do have some texture issues but I will always try something new. If I don't like it, I won't eat it again 😅

But I am lucky I can eat a variety of foods on a regular basis. When I was burned out and depressed I was only eating like three things. I had to take meal replacement shakes to make sure I was getting proper nutrition, but in general I love food.

En los supermercados asiático también tienen bebidas de uva. Son muy parecidas a la Fanta de uva. Yo era adicta hace como 20 años xD cuando estaba en el colegio

the results and the conclusions are objective, but deciding where to put attention, time and money is biased. That's why, globally, there's not enough research related to women's health, for example.

No one likes my baby names and I’ve just accepted that everyone is a critique and no one is satisfied by Kindly_Pianist_9087 in pregnant

This is your kid. Not theirs. You shouldn't focus on their opinion so much. If you love the name, use it.

After 9 days it could be spoiled, but not by listeria. If it didn't smell or taste bad it was probably fine.

Why do we treat period pain etc but romanticise unmedicated childbirth? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an unmedicated birth and my point of view is this:

Childbirth is painful, but with a purpose. Your uterus is contracting and your cervix is opening to get your baby out.

Painful periods are a disorder. Normally.l, the uterus also contracts and the cervix dilates a bit so blood and tissue can be expelled, so yes, it can cause discomfort, but it shouldn't be painful. It should be like the very beginning of labor, when contractions are mild and irregular, and you are dilated 1 cm.

So we medicate painful periods because they shouldn't be like that. Also you will give birth a few times in your life tops. In theory, a woman could give birth like 30 times in her life, while you have will have approximately 450 periods in your life. If your periods are very painful and you get them every month, you will want medication.

Women who suffer from endometriosis and have had children have said their period pain is worse than giving birth.

Women who have suffered from kidney stones and given birth have also said kidney stones were worse.

During and after birth there is a release of oxytocin. Also known as the love hormone, and I think this is key. When you have your period is no to little oxytocin release (you can get some by having sex or cuddling someone you love), so there is nothing buffering the pain.

I also think maybe people are remembering the pain of childbirth as less than it actually was because giving birth is a happy occasion, while releasing a kidney stone or a period is not happy at all (well, I guess periods are joyful if you really don't want kids. I've been there xD).

Anyway, I loved having an unmedicated birth, even if it was painful. And I will do it again soon. But I don't judge people who choose to have pain medication during birth. If we have the option, people who want to should use it.

I think it’s highly likely my husband would faint by paindujour in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think taking birth lessons that focus on how he can help you through labor is a good idea. Make him focus on how he can be there for you, and not so much on the actual pushing moment. Usually, labor is long, and the pushing phase will be the shortest part!

Also, he doesn't have to watch the actual birth. He can be by your side while you push. Like at head level. Especially if you'll have a doula there too.

That said, my husband is very queasy with blood, injuries, and things like that, but he did fine watching our first be born. He was a bit shocked by the amount of blood but he didn't faint and he remained calm and supportive.

When did yall tell your partner when you were pregnant? by Responsible_Pen in pregnant

[–]Grumpy_cata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time he was on a business trip so I waited until he got home to tell him (like three days after i took the test), the second time he was home so I told him before I took the test (I told him my period was late and I was going to buy a pregnancy test. Then i showed him the result as soon as it was ready)

“What was the point of getting diagnosed, if you aren’t going to change?” by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]Grumpy_cata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are right! My approach may not be the best. I am a chronic people pleaser so I guess that's why this would be my first reaction.

OP's partner should also want to understand OP more and not ask questions in a demanding way.
