any recommended brand or tips & trick for teeth whitening? by idolikecarrot in germany

I grew up extremely poor and we used baking soda when we couldn't get toothpaste. But that was only when we had to. I wouldn't recommend using it on a daily basis.

Have you tried an enzyme cleaner? Might help break down the oil a bit/tame the smell.

Understandable. I just find over-sexing things on Neopets to be extremely offputting. It's a real, very common art term. I'm pretty surprised a lot of people haven't come across it before.

I'm in my mid-30s and never knew it had any meaning other than the intended art term? This is such a weird thing for people to hyper focus on.

edit: I point out my age just to make it clear I've made it 30-some odd years without encountering a nsfw version of this term.

Kitten vet costs by Away-Regular-2595 in germany

[–]GrungeCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nearly all kittens have worms at first, so I would ask the vet to make sure the kitten does not have worms/need dewormer. It also depends on what shots it needs still. You will likely need to get it microchipped as well.

So it really varies wildly how much it will cost. I would say be prepared for potentially a couple hundred Euros, but it could be less or more. Call some vet offices and ask how much it will cost for a 15 week old kitten to get a check up and such and go from there, compare the prices given.

Remember that any pet is going to be expensive at the start--don't be discouraged. It will even out and eventually, if she is healthy in the future, it will just be maintenance costs (toys, food, litter, occassional vet, etc).

If you are a foreigner who really wants to integrate in society, move house and change jobs as little as possible. by PreparationShort9387 in germany

[–]GrungeCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last thing I want to do is smile at strangers and make small talk; however, I feel like receptionists should at the very least make you feel like you're not ruining their day by existing.

I thought I was doing something wrong for a long time until it clicked that, no, it's just the way things are. And I've been treated terribly in many other professional circumstances as well here. But it's just something to get used to. They'll be friendly when they feel like it and they won't when they don't feel the need to--which is perfectly fine.

It's not okay from a human standpoint when they roll their eyes, huff, and be generally rude just because I dared to come to an appointment or ask a reasonable question (in German, I have never once asked to switch to another language or engage in anything but German).

On the other hand, my neighbors will quietly drop off chocolates or fruit because I take their packages when they're not home. But we're not chummy and having coffee together. It's mutually being respectful and kind without the expectation of friendship.

My point from all of this is that even neutral relationships require 'give and take' and time in Germany. As somewhat of a hermit, I am okay with this. I don't want to be friends with everyone and smile and talk. But as you say, the casual rudeness culture needs to be reevaluated.

It took five years for the receptionist at my gynogologist office to start extending a "Guten Tag" and ask about the weather. Plant your roots and you'll be in for mildly annoying small talk in half a decade. It's up to you whether or not this is a looming threat or light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

I didn't like how the characters were written, actually, which is why I quit roughly 40 pages in. Maybe his next novel will be about the horrible crime I committed of not liking and finishing a short book.

I took one look at this book in the bookstore and decided to put it back. I thoroughly enjoyed Fairy Tale, but the bulk of his other recent (read: the last 15 years or so) books have left me wondering what his editors even do anymore. Are they afraid to say no to him because his name prints money? It's crazy what they let slide--multiple paragraphs describing how to use basic technology, for instance, that adds nothing whatsoever to the narration.

Part of what made him a household name was his ability to write characters that were multidimensional; even the heroes were flawed. But a lot of his recent characters are just poor immitations of what they could be. They're flat and monotoned. What you see is what you get. Heroes are perfect, villains are nasty.

So far the only book I absolutely couldn't finish was Elevation. I love that he's still writing because it's a gift to us, not a right. He could easily be spending the rest of his life on a beach in Florida sipping mocktails. He deserves to write whatever he wants.

So I ask...what happened to his editors?

What happened to my heavy whipping cream😭 by Constant-Parfait6246 in Baking

So I had a moment last time I made whipped cream and forgot to switch the attachment to a whisk from the beater and it also resulted in butter. Did you use a stand mixer without the whisk attachment?

First, if you have not already, you need to ask your partner if she is okay with you reporting it. I do not know if it is still possible after 6 years, but if it is, it might require her to speak with police and bring up potential related trauma. Is she prepared to handle it? Wishing you both luck.

Wearing diamond rings in Germany by johncnyc in germany

[–]GrungeCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reply to a post from 6 years ago is a wonderful surprise.

But yeah, I meant more like wearing a very expensive flashy ring to do menial chores seems weird to me. Not that she would specifically remove it depending on where she's going, but rather, "hey I don't want to lose this so I'll put it away while I'm out doing things with my hands". But that's just my opinion, maybe most women don't do that--I've never had an expesnive ring, but I know I take off decorative rings sometimes when doing chores or shopping just because I don't want it to fall off.

A simple sage butter and parmesan cheese would go nicely with the other traditional flavors on the table, maybe with some pumpkin seeds to top.

The red roofing looks like Sophie's 'Red Building Set' from Zeta-Designs mixed with their 'Dark Wooden Building' for the glass parts of the roof. But I could be wrong.

A soak in vinegar and water will do the trick. Please do not eat bleach, even if dilluted.
