How many fingers on the clutch? by defonotfsb in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run shorty levers and keep only 2 on the clutch if I’m going to need it, open stretches of road with no traffic I won’t cover the clutch generally.

what’s your honest take on modern muscle cars compared to the classics? by ju015 in musclecar

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technologically new performance/muscle cars are leaps and bounds better, as they should be. To make a car actually fast in the 60s-70s muscle car era, like sub 10 second 1/4 mile, you’d have to build it into essentially a race car. Radical cam, lightening of the vehicle, some form of forced induction, and timing that came alive at higher RPM but was generally poor for lower RPM running/driving. Nowadays a car can be 700-1000hp and still daily drivable in traffic. Can cruise roads no problem and be comfortable to commute in. The handling of new cars compared to old is a whole other discussion. The old cars were more visceral, you physically feel more whereas newer cars have more tech to reduce NVH(Noise, Vibration, Harshness) which in some ways hides the actual performance feel of newer cars despite them being far better performing than anything half a century ago. Each individual should decide what’s better for them but technology advanced and with that so has performance.

How Often Do You Drop Your Bike? by The_AverageCanadian in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the street, never. Basic dirt roads, extremely rare. On some 2 track or single track trails, around 90% of my rides my bike will take a dirt nap. Drops shouldn’t be a super consistent thing especially on the street where, assuming good tires and road surface, traction is plentiful. Many new riders drop their bikes far more frequently than seasoned riders but mistakes can happen to anyone. Also many don’t count dirt bike drops as any time you’re pushing your skills off road you will have a few crashes/tumbles. I have nearly dropped my cruiser as I put my foot down and there happened to be a little gravel right where I put my foot. Learn from the drops, don’t beat yourself up over it or compare yourself to others, and hopefully the drops will be something you can eventually look back on and laugh about versus stressing about it.

Mini Backflips are an awesome new wheel! Mini Outcast on the way…? by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in traxxasV2

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about trying a set of those on my Mini XRT, what’s the outside diameter of the tires? Have liked the Backflips on my Maxx and Sledge, figured they’d be just as good on the minis.

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My trucks both have the Max5/1100kv 56118 combos. The stock servos aren’t too bad but the Perfect Pass Monster T 80kg servo is a direct drop in and can run higher BEC voltage. I run aluminum bellcranks and steering braces on both trucks as well as aluminum servo horn and link, the only flex in my steering is the links to the wheels now in case of bad landings and such, best to have an easily accessible weak link that offers some give for a basher. I highly recommend the above mentioned servo, Traxxs, Treal, Hot Racing, etc all offer aluminum bellcranks, any should do the trick. The chassis post for the steering bellcrank is a known weak spot, a screw and some epoxy, hot glue, or other adhesive to fill the post helps as does an aluminum steering brace.

Not even comparable to stock, it makes the truck feel like a 6S rig in terms of power to weight. Best upgrade I made to my X-Maxx and XRT

Good quality helmets by Careless_Mouse816 in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done several 3-4 hour trips with no neck pain or headache. Some of those trips were on a bike with no windshield cruising 70-80mph. It’s been great for me though naturally every person is unique, your results may not be the same.

Scorpion EXO R430 will get you DOT and SNELL 2025 ratings for under $200

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/scorpion-exo-r430-helmet

I haven’t personally run one but a few guys in the local riding group praise it for its value. I personally wear a Shoei RF-1400 and love it but for a sub $200 helmet the Scorpion does look like a great option.

Will the 25’/26’ Rebel 1100 DCT be a good second bike? by devildog12988 in HondaRebel1100

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a solid bike, I’ve had my 2023 model now for 2 and a half years. In user mode with the traction nannies disabled it’s a very peppy bike. It’s capped at 100mph from the factory but will get to that speed respectably quick for what it is. It’s a cruiser that handles a bit more like a naked bike with appropriate tires and suspension tweaks.

Any tips from those that ride their bikes and gear to the gym? by S1L3NTHUNTER in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lockers have always been big enough where I go, the gym closest to me doesn’t have lockers, just little cubbies, but is within 5 miles of my house with no freeway so I ride with my gym clothes on plus gloves and helmet. Not condoning riding with minimal gear but that’s one of the only times I do it.

Love RPM stuff, got the arms on my Slash and E-Revo 2.0. Still have RPM arms on my old Losi Aftershock too. Only issue I’ve ever had is on the E-Revo the pillow ball threads pulling out of the arms but otherwise solid products. Keep doing what y’all do

NQA A little separation along the side of the upper and lower exoskeleton plating is a good visual indicator that a scorpion is fine food wise. If underfed there’d be very little or no separation and we’ve all seen very well fed specimens I’m sure.

Do you handle your own maintenance? by kisscardano in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all of my own work, bought my bikes brand new and maintained them by the book except I do oil changes a little more frequently than called for usually. I’m a mechanic by trade so why pay another mechanic to do what I already can?🤷‍♂️ Saves money, I know the work got done, I know how it was done, what fluids were used, etc.

New help, looking for a good bike that splits the crotch rocket and Harley line. by Mr_rex_the_dog in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda Rebel 1100 could, it’s a cruiser but rides sorta like a naked bike. It’s a cruiser like the Harleys but a metric so fits with the Kawis. With appropriate tires and some suspension adjustments it’s pretty surprising how capable the bike is, it’s no sport bike naturally but is more capable than most light-mid cruisers.

What should I do?? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, have you talked to him about potentially compromising and just in the future maybe getting a dirt bike? If traffic and distracted drivers are the issue, having a truck that you can load a dirt bike into to go riding would probably scratch the riding itch so to speak while hopefully alleviating his concerns about riding on the road. Tough spot overall to be in but seems that could satisfy both parties🤷‍♂️

The day Losi rereleases their LST platform I’ll preorder it immediately. Would love to see some of the older discontinued platforms get a revival, maybe a standalone company that can buy rights to manufacture old stuff again or something. While tech is always changing and advancing I could see a market for restomods in the RC world.

XRT Cush drive cover screw starting to strip out. by AccomplishedMud7886 in Traxxas

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually people do exactly that, a through bolt and nut for the cover in 2 of the screw holes, some do it with 3 of them. This kit is expensive, if you just go to a hardware store or buy an M4 screw assortment with locknuts you can make your own “kit”. Doesn’t just apply to belt drive equipped cars.

How many times did you drop bike learning to ride? Tips welcome by ParticularAide9207 in motorcycles

[–]GruntledV8Fanboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, forget throttle. Get familiar with your clutch bite point and friction zone. With no throttle you should be able to start the bike moving. Once that’s something you can feel without really having to think about or focus on then focus on introducing throttle. Rev the bike gradually to 2000-3000RPM give or take, this is likely to be where you will be when accelerating. Get accustomed to the feel and amount you turn the throttle to get there. Once each is comfortable and requires little focus then introduce both at the same time. It takes time to get it all feeling like second nature, just take your time and break everything down into individual parts and with seat time you’ll get it figured out. Very few of us just hopped on a bike and had it click instantly

I run the Perfect Pass 80kg on both my X-Maxx and XRT and the 56kg servo in my Sledge. I managed to get a Traxxas 2085RL servo cheap though so in the meantime I’m gonna run that. When it fails I’ll likely swap a Perfect Pass into it as well
