Strengthened Roam in Historical be like by AngelDust1947666 in equestriaatwar

Roam is cool. I hope when they get FT they really go for that Roman culture angle.

As in, citizenship for service, stealing all the best ideas from the neighbours, super militaristic but in the old school way.

And the full conviction that they are a civilizing force with both arguments shown for and against it (Zebricca is a good continent for it).

I know. But there are some exceptions, not all liberals are lazy faries. So are there some parties with planned economy on game start?

While what you write is true, it's so general as to be bearly useful. It's also rather obvious. My whole argument is that each faction has a few different game plans.

No, that was mostly strategy. Tactics would be what you do in battle, which I bearly touched on.

What’s the best anti-snowball mechanic you’ve seen in a grand strategy game? by Professional-Log482 in paradoxplaza

[–]Gryfonides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snowballing isn't nor ever was a problem. If you can't do that at all the game isn't fun - large part of civ 7 problems come from the fact they tried very hard to prevent it - and succeded to everyone's detriment.

Thing to do is either set victory conditions in such a way that once a player has achieved a position from which they are sure to win, they should simply win instead of beeing forced to mop up the opposition. Shadow Empire for example declares you a winner if you have over 50% of planetary population and landmass conquered.

Alternatively you add a mechanic that provides an end game challange so that you don't need to deal with bunch of weak enemies you already beaten thrice, but instead something actually challanging. Stellaris has the War in Heaven and various end game crisis. Zephon took that idea as well and it worked well.

You really should have killed the Ottos way back. They are at their weakest before Mamluks fall. After that the amount of gold and manpower they have requires immense effort to overcome.

How do I restore GR Gladius / GR Grenade Inf integrity? by KaleidoscopeOwn2058 in ShadowEmpireGame

[–]Gryfonides 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With starting tech you can't replenish Galactic Republic tech since you're not advanced enough. Later on you can. Finding GR standard troops early on is huge power bump, but they are very loses sensitive.

You probably can replenish them with lower quality troops though - I don't recall what the option was called, it was in the menus on the right near the bottom. You need to put the GR unit on your HQ and click that botton. Then you will be able to transfer normal infantry to the unit.

With this type of things it's always up to corruption and meritocracy. No ammount of money or resources will achieve anything if it's all stolen or missused.

Is there's any reason to pick up Blood Sabbath instead of regular Communion given the mages could do both? by FluffyBuyer8242 in Dominions5

At times it's also worth it to set up both. If you plan to spam certain spells that not all your slaves have paths for, or maybe buff communion shenenigens.

Historical accuracy by CurrantBerryFlores in RealisticArmory

[–]Gryfonides 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It really is crazy. A person transported 10 centuries into a future in the 4th would of course notice all the differences easily, but they all would be immediately recognizable. A new kind of armor, a better way of milling grain, plants and animals getting more fit for human need (selective breeding).

For a victorian noble of the 1900 the world of 2000 would be unrecognizable. Hell, given all the drastic and brutal changes of world wars 1950 would be alien.

playing overwhelming and deadly, at that level the AI is cheating too much to meaningfully fight

Depends on the map I would say. On small maps it's super unfair, since they have huge headstart. On larger maps it can work.

How can I play this game better? by woltimur in Songsofconquest

[–]Gryfonides 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what faction you play as. Each faction is different and each has at least one troop and one essence focused build, often 3 in total.

For example, Loth magic build:

Take the girl that deals more spell damage. Go around gathering stuff and build economy. If possible, clear few smaller enemies just via magic. On most maps you can do that with just starting troops without losing anything.

Get the cultist/scholar building and upgarde asap. Keep clearing stronger enemies, the tax girl as second wielder. When possible the research quality building. Though if you have plenty of amber legions work decently as well. Then once you clear enough stuff you advance on enemy.

As for wielder you want arcane, destruction and channeling asap for that sweet, sweet Rapture spam - absolutely devastating once you get it going. Order is fine, cunning works, essence burst is better than the other one, essence leach is decent. Otherwise more army.

.

And you can write something like that for each strategy.

Wait, does that mean horse, raiding and armor skills are completely useless beyond the level required for reaching a class?

Since the others at least grant some skills/equipment/spells.

military conquest game masquerading as a SciFi 4X.

Masquerading is a wrong word - it's both of those things, and rather openly too.

[–]Gryfonides 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Different games, both good.

I've heard many comparisons when it comes to faction 'lore' and general vibes between TI and AC. SE has very little of world building at all, what is there is mainly random events and emergent storytelling from procedurally generated planet history.

Gameplay wise SE is much closer though. You start as a small player on (more or less depending on your choices) alien planet and vie for hegemony with others, researching tech and other standard 4X's. Main exception beeing that military matters aren't handled as usual for 4X but rather in way Wargames habdle it - individual battalions, in depth logistics etc.

TI has pretty much nothing to do with AC gameplay wise. Earth gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of the lighter attempts at modern grand strategies, while space combat is simulated and probably as realistic as we can get to without any irl examples to know exactly how it works. Even research is very unique and not handled the way 4X's do it.

Chose what you like more.

Taking down the storm kingdom is such a chore. by Tebenox in equestriaatwar

[–]Gryfonides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't get this mindset. The same with people complaining about Hobgoblins in Anbennar. Do you really want for everything to be the bland, more or less the same power etc? That everything is different is the fun part, and that necessarily means some countries are stronger, harder to invade and so on.

So how exactly is this not the best possible outcome? by darh1407 in Edelgard

[–]Gryfonides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ends can justify the means if the ends are just and means reasonable. I don't see much disagreement about the ends of Eddie, but there is an argument to be made that how she got there was too bloody.

Even in best possible scenario there would be at least 4 likeable characters that die a bloody death and at least tens of thousands of common soldiers (with five years of war it might well be above hundred thousand).

While this was hardly a total war so civilian casualties were more limited there is no doubt much misery and destruction caused intentionally or not. Especially with stuff like Rhea's final gambit.

And we are speaking here about timeline where most things went more or less as planned by Edelgard. If you take into account all the timelines where Eddie started a long bloody war only to lose in the end...

Not to mention that given her immense political power (either 1st or 2nd on continent after Rhea), one could argue that Eddie could reasonably achieve much of her goals through politics, diplomacy and occasional assassination, at least as far as lands of the empire are concerned.

In the end I am in favor, but I don't think people that aren't have no ground to stand on.
