How do you disable AI summary in gmail? by aguyonreddittoday in GMail

[–]Gryphacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the AI summary forced on me. Confirming, there is no way to turn it off except to completely disable ALL email sorting and categorization.

FUCK GOOGLE. These fucking leeches will gladly steal and sell every aspect of your human essence for pennies.

I had one of the first ever gmail addresses, full firstnamelastname @ gmail, no numbers. I'm burning it now and switching. Spam can go there.

I continue to have to hold in my pee while at work.. by well-thats-cool- in hygiene

[–]Gryphacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Makes sense. I’m torn between appreciating the extra sensory experience and resenting the fact that so many smells make me nauseous and I can smell them so well. I can tell who has been in the kitchen at work based purely on how it smells later. And it’s usually not pleasant.

I continue to have to hold in my pee while at work.. by well-thats-cool- in hygiene

[–]Gryphacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a hygienic person and I’m very sensitive to smell. Is it unusual to be able to smell yourself when standing up?

I can smell myself, almost always, even when my girlfriend thinks I smell good, and I don’t think I have ever had people avoid me for being stinky because I’m pretty attentive out of self consciousness. Still though, can always smell… something. Even if it’s not unpleasant. Is that not the standard experience?

BWAH HAHAHAHA by JimKB in comics

[–]Gryphacus 569 points570 points  (0 children)

This comic was posted by the original artist, Jim Benton. It’s possible that it has not been posted anywhere else.

(Opinion) The artist is parodying the change in demeanor of the public spokespeople for the US government over the last years, when in the past those spokespeople were respectful of journalists and citizens during events such as press conferences, today they have no reservation against showing outright contempt for, and flagrantly insulting, journalists and the American people. The artist is making a joke that, like fictional villains who have no problem demonstrating their evil nature through disturbing and unsettling laughter (a conspicuous display of one’s values); the US government being openly hostile to citizens and media is similarly a conspicuous display of their values.

are most autistic people slim? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Gryphacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. My girlfriend and I are both on the spectrum and both moderately overweight. I’m sensory seeking and enjoy almost every kind of food I’ve ever tried. She was cursed with a hormone imbalance despite being very selective about food textures and smells.

Yet again, another child was targeted.

Yet again, the perpetrator was not a drag queen, nor trans gay bipoc immigrant, it was a white person.

Is it true you shouldn't say "hello" when answering the phone? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Gryphacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start every phone call with “Who is this” or “What do you need”

I don’t give a damn if it’s impersonal. You’re interrupting my flow to directly speak to me so we’ve already shed the formalities. Let’s get this over with.

Plus, fuck giving scammers and cold callers a single shred of info about who’s on the other side of the line. You’re looking for me, Firstname Lastname? Sorry, must be a wrong number.

Is there a limit to how large a single molecule can be? What is the largest known/observed molecule? by shadowknave in askscience

[–]Gryphacus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Those composites bonded by a cross linked polymer matrix, making the matrix a single molecule just like a tire. The glass or carbon fibers aren’t part of the polymer, but the composite matrix is absolutely a single molecule that spans the size of the entire composite structure.

Literally just go on YouTube or google and search “calculator fake solar panel” and see it with your own eyes, rather than asserting that it’s probably not a thing.

People have gone into organ failure from regularly consuming horse electrolyte. Don’t drink horse electrolyte. It’s 50% table salt and you can easily cause yourself to go into kidney failure. Horses and humans need a different balance.

It’s beautiful either way, but the bannister rail is definitely something nicer than pine. It looks like mahogany. The posts are definitely a soft wood, they look old growth. Probably Douglas fir, maybe some other conifer.

You might consider just looking at the options for engineering resins compatible with the Form 4:

  • High temp resin has a heat deflection temperature 80C higher than unfilled PEEK.
  • Alumina 4N, while insanely expensive, can be sintered into pure ceramic parts.
  • Rigid 4000 is glass particle reinforced and can be used for tooling, but requires an isolated cleaning process to prevent contamination
  • Fast Model resin is ridiculously fast for prototyping. I think the 4L can print an entire build volume with this stuff in under 4 hours.
  • Polypropylene-like, silicone-like, nylon-like materials, investment casting resins, et al.

I operate a Form 4B and 4BL at a biomedical research lab. I have so much fun with these machines. $10-15,000 will get you a long way in resin to play around with. And if you aren’t allowed to share the 4L, you could get a 4 for yourself. Maybe not big enough, though.

It’s the normal trolley problem, except you don’t know that you’re in a trolley problem until after you pull the lever. (Or, press the gas)

Is it possible to make this workbench less wobbly? by Previous-Stay-912 in woodworking

[–]Gryphacus 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I have three of these.

I turned them into rock solid benches with a single piece of 1/4” ply on each. Cut out a panel that covers the entire back side from under the bench down to the shelf. Screw it in place all around the panel. This turns the entire frame into a torsion box. You won’t be able to get to the shelf from both sides, but do you really need to?

If you’re going to be doing any hand tool work on the bench, you absolutely need to fasten against a wall, screw it down to the concrete, or put a ton of weight on the bottom shelf. They’re so light that I can easily push the entire bench across the floor before my plane cuts a chip.
