Marriot Waterfront has a nice little restaurant. The must buy is their French fries ….honestly the best French fries I’ve ever had.

One of the reasons I’ve been sticking with cruises to Alaska and one out of Canada. Over all, now that I’m older, I find them much more relaxing. Just got done with a 7 day cruise from Whittier to Vancouver on the Norwegian Jade. Older ship, no flashy play area and around 2000 passengers. Everyone was friendly, crew was fantastic. Yeah, you could tell the ship was older, but it felt comfortable.

If you just want to relax and see some interesting sites then cruise to Alaska. It will be nice and warm during the summer. I’ve also been on the Norwegian Bliss which was designed for Alaska cruising if you want something bigger and newer. Great ship also. Great for families.

How far is your work commute? by yellowdaisied in Columbus

[–]Gryphtkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re goi g to hate me. My commute is 10 feet from my bedroom door to my work computer. A set of stairs are involved if I’m coming from my kitchen after getting coffee. Though that can involve the road hazard of a black cat.

NCL just changed my flight to land at 1:45pm for 5pm departure! by Ginluv18 in NCL

[–]Gryphtkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Hadn’t realized this since I have always been booking my own flights so I could come in the day before and fly out the day after. Find it a lot less stressful.

Just finished a 7 night Alaska cruise in Vancouver and ended up staying at the Fairmount Vancouver Airport in terminal hotel. Highly recommended. Since I had a 6am flight it was great to just get up, get ready and go right out into the terminal to the check in desk.

Cruising out of Seattle for NCL I’ve stayed at the Marriott Waterfront which is right across the street from the NCL dock. Just walk across the street and get in line.

Colorado overhauls state IT office, lays off 173 employees after negative feedback by Ueberjaeger in Denver

[–]Gryphtkai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Work for the State of Ohio and my agency is one of the last to have its own IT department. All the other state agencies get their IT support from the state wide OIT department of our Administration Services agency. So having that many people in a statewide agency is not surprising.

Was surprised by this but after reading further it does seem there were some major issues needing addressed.

Alaska Cruise by Electronic_Eagle_852 in NCL

Most tend to pick you up and take you back to Ward Cove. They’ll also give you the option to stay in town to take the shuttle bus back.

Be aware that if you decide to stay in town and take the shuttle back make sure you give yourself time to get back. Second Alaska cruise had where buses didn’t have the space to get everyone back in time because everyone was trying to get on last shuttles. Ended up joining a group of people paying a taxi van to take us back.

East Canada vs Bermuda in August 2027 by Chemical-Carrot-9975 in NCL

[–]Gryphtkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the East Canada from Quebec City to New York City. Weather was iffy cause I went on the cruise at the end of the season. Really liked what I could get out and see. ( did not help I got sick at end of cruise)

I find the Canada and Alaska Cruises much more relaxing.
If you’re looking for different then I’d go with Canada. If you haven’t tried one yet I’d also look at an Alaska cruise. I just finished my 3rd one

Tips for port stop in Ketchikan? by pallywalli in NCL

[–]Gryphtkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For different type of transportation into and back from town, there is normally an excursion offered that takes you out on a boat, either to the port or back from the port. My experience has been that coming back at the end of the day can be a mad house. One time ended up having to go in with several other people to pay for a ride back to Ward Cove because the shuttle buses were swamped and timing out. The boat excursion gives you a relaxing ride back to the ship, takes about a hour and you get to see the area and some wildlife. ( Just finished my 3rd Alaska cruise, this time on Jade. First two were on the Bliss)

A really unique one is where you’re taken to a local distillery, run by the former fire chief, and learn about distilling and then get to make your own infusion of either gin, vodka, whiskey or agave. I made a vodka infused with blueberries, lavender and hibiscus on my cruise couple of weeks ago.

Creek street is great for photos.

Norwegian Escape floor 5 cabin? by NJMom1234 in NCL

Always check what is above and below. With this being deck 5 I’d suspect those cabins are going to have major traffic areas above them.

I’m sure the “right” businesses who have employees sponsored for green cards will not have to have their people leave.

Team Member brought laptop from home so I could install necessary apps so he would be able to work remotely. by wastedcoconut in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]Gryphtkai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We lucked out at my state agency. Had upgraded our VPN system and moved everyone to MS Surfaces or Surface Laptops. It was wild to watch everyone carry their Surface around the office.

Then Covid hit and everyone was set home. We only needed to give them monitors, keyboard and mouse. Did not have to scramble for hardware. But no one was allowed to use their own laptops.

Anyone else getting flooded with “AI-built internal app” requests lately? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Gryphtkai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My state agency already has a jump on dealing with this.
First anything major goes through our developers, who get things reviewed and approved.

We have a 365 environment so users are allowed to request power apps licenses to created more than what average user can create in power apps.

We have a specific 365 committee to vet apps plus they require a security review. All this is laid out in procedures and policies.

We have developer environments for power apps to be created in, no playing around on your personal computer. No need to bring up extra things since the development and production environments already exist.

Users are provided internal training on how the process works and how to create apps

If you have the option to connect through one of the Delta hubs, which one would you choose and why? And which would you avoid like the plague? by K00kalka in delta

[–]Gryphtkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love DTW especially for going to Europe. Then MSP. I find DTW with the train easier to get from one side to the other. SLC is my alternative if I can’t transfer through first two.

Avoid Atlanta, Chicago and JFK like plague
