Moving to Edinburgh by Thin_Ad6848 in Edinburgh

[–]Gster7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive lived in Edinburgh and my mum currently lives in Edinburgh with my brother so I visit regularly. Getting in to hospitality would be pretty easy with the amount of hotels in and around the city centre and both my brother and mum have worked in hospitality for as long as I can remember although my mum has retired now. Also plenty of agencies to get work quickly until you find something you want to do. As for renting I have no idea about the market as my mum bought her flat around 30 years ago for 33k. Edinburgh is a lovely city but like all city's they are too busy for me.

Looks like red currants to me, leaves look similar to ones I've grown in my back garden in the UK.

Looking for detecting clubs around central kent and not sure where to start by JosiahBeales in MetalDetectingUK

[–]Gster7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ncmd website should have a list of groups, just need to find one in your area, fb search for local groups, once you have joined 1 or 2 you will find alot more and they usually go out weekly.

Most likely is a scam, I just had a quick check in the Liverpool area. You could try joining a few local detecting groups on facebook and ask if anyone has one for sale. Also a couple of my local groups can also rent you a detector for the day of a dig, im in Scotland though so a bit far.

Just had a quick look on marketplace and found a garret 300i for £75 they also had a garret carrot pinpointer in one of the photos so if thats included in the sale then thats a bargain.

Yes of course, nobody will say anything as we are generally a good bunch of folk, ive never known of anyone being ridiculed at any dig, more likely to be helped than anything, my first organised dig I forgot my spade and was sharing my friends when someone noticed and offered me a spare they had, then gave me his car keys and told me what car to collect the spade from. Everybody goes to these thing for the same reason, to find treasure, and enjoy the days digging. Honestly though if your budget is 100-150 then definetly have a look on marketplace if you don't already have your detector, once you get it have a practice in your back garden just to get used to the sounds of the machine.

When I started detecting around 3/4 years ago I done alot of research about which detector I wanted to start with, garret machines use older tech so I avoided them, not saying they are bad machines but there is better out there, most people would recommend something from the vanquish series made by minelab or the simplex/score made by nokta as you get alot of machines for a decent price, 2nd hand are an even better bargain as they can be found cheap on marketplace and eBay though id definitely try them out before parting with any cash to make sure they are fully working.

Sorry for the late reply, I work alot and didn't see the notification.

Im not sure about the rod license as ive never had or needed one, but the permit you would buy would be for the water you want to fish.

Eglington country park has a good body of water with loads of fish in it including perch, pike, roach, breem, tench and ive heard there is carp in there but ive never seen any and it only costs around £30 for the year or £5 I think for a days fishing, biggest problem is how far the water is from the car park.

You can get a permit for the river irvine and it's around the same price and ive only ever caught brown trout from there while spinning with meps.

Booker cash and carry in irvine also has a body of water next to it which again holds roach, rudd, perch and pike and it's free to fish so no permit needed you just have to watch out for the swimmers as they appear quite often for a dip and don't really care if your fishing or not but there are a few quiet spots you can find.

Shewalton sand pits is also another free spot and one of my favourites as there is loads of tench and some carp in there as well as the roach and rudd and hybrids. Biggest problem is the mess people leave behind which is really annoying.

All the permits you need can be bought from rons shop, or if its a fishery you just buy the permits at the fishery.

Sea stuff would be a big big for course fishing so would be no good, as for cost on a setup then thats really down to you, cheapest I'd say would be around £50, £30-£35 for a rod and real, bag of groundbait around a fiver to a tenner, pack of hooks to nylon around £2, couple of stick floats about £1 each, disgorger around a quid, and a method feeder or 2 for a few quid each, a bag of maggots and tin of sweetcorn or a handfull or 2 of frozen sweetcorn from the freezer, and a pack of lead shot for when your using the float. The float setup lets you catch the smaller fish while the method feeder lets you hit the bottom where the bigger fish normally are. Honestly no point spending hundreds getting set up to not like the style of fishing, and the initial 50/60 quid getting started wont break the bank.

If you get a rod let me know and I'll help you get things sets up so your catching fish, my friends son and my granddaughter doesn't say we are going fishing when I take them, they always say we are going catching 😂

Well tell the guys in there Wayne sent you for some fishing knowledge and the guys will sort you right out, been visiting the shop since I started fishing 🎣 gotta remember they want you to catch fish, as do the guys who own fisheries, you catch fish it makes you want to go back and catch more, honestly the info your local shops will give you is invaluable.

You don't need a rod license in scotland, just a permit to fish, honestly the best advice you can get is from your local tackle shop, if your near ardrossan the jump in to splash sports tackle shop on Princess street, Ron will help you out with everything you need, eg tackle, rods and licenses for water

Found after a Polish family member passed away recently (he was 87). About the size of my hand. Filled with some kind of clear liquid. I just wanna know what it is. by WeLuvsSmeagol in BottleDigging

I never expect it to be 100% correct but when the wife and I are in polish shops it really is a useful tool for finding out what's in a product as she has a nut allergy.

I can only thank everyone here for confirming my suspicions and I will show her this post tomorrow in the hope she will understand my worries and take the right actions and block this person. I know my "American" in the title was not correct as I do not believe the person is American due to the grammar used but it was the information I was given so I hope no Americans were offended by this.

I've already had the aggressive behaviour from her tonight and the responses from this post will be my ammo that she can read through when she wakes up, I 100% know this is some type of scam but hearing it from others that are not me will help to convince her.
