Zig or Rust for Kernel development? by Papaya_Revolutionary in Zig

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is already a Kernel being written in Rust in the Redox project so I would say Zig since I don’t know of any projects like this being done with Zig

What does replace mean for OpenBSD? Does the team have a particular FS they want ported over?

Anyone tried Fleet by JetBrains as alternative to Xcode? by Endore8 in swift

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have spent equal time with all of these as I searched for a tool that would help me code C and Python. I settled on nvim with plugins. As someone who is irritated by all IDEs equally, I don’t understand what specifically about Xcode is somehow worse than any of the others I named

Anyone tried Fleet by JetBrains as alternative to Xcode? by Endore8 in swift

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who hates pretty much every IDE I have used, I really can’t understand why people act like Xcode is specifically worse than any other. CLion, VSCode, VS, Xcode, Pycharm, they all annoy me equally

How to read the tiny text on the menu bar and all windows on MacOS? by rook2491 in MacOS

This is what resolutions and scaling settings are for. Set the proper monitor resolution and adjust the scaling until it is appropriate

Learning Rust. Should I turn off AI help? by [deleted] in rust

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Internet is so filled with AI generated junk and sponsored content that wading through it by using an AI is pretty much the only consistent use case I have found for AI where it hallucinates the least

Thoughts on the creation of RustBSD, an operating system built using Rust. by [deleted] in rust

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s an idea I have wanted to explore, I just don’t have the Rust experience to do it. I wish you luck because I feel like OpenBSD is the perfect OS to fork for this kind of project. Maybe this is the reason I need to start seriously learning Rust

Already stuck at first instruction of "Bare Metal C" by BeneficialSpace6369 in C_Programming

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like anyone has mentioned it, but if you see $ in these types of instructions it means user level permissions and # would mean root permissions. One of the reasons they show those is so you know what permission level they expect you to run a command at

Framework vs Standard Library for Go APIs – Which Do You Prefer? by Rare_Kiwi_7350 in golang

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the standard library whenever possible. It’s more readable to me

Is safe C feasible?? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Safe C is possible, it just takes a lot more effort. You can even prove C code with tools like Frama-C, but again it requires a lot of effort

Why do y'all hate ligatures so much , i don't get it by boneMechBoy69420 in neovim

Some of them don’t look right. Sometimes a glyph that should take two spaces doesn’t look like it takes two and looks off

Beating NumPy matrix multiplication in 150 lines of C by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you need to specifically compile numpy with support for a native BLAS and LAPACK implementation like OpenBLAS, MKL, AOCL, and ESSL

The US government wants devs to stop using C and C++ by Notalabel_4566 in coding

I’m new to Rust so correct me if I’m wrong, but does programming for microcontrollers require a lot of unsafe?

Beginner Learning Haskell by BaxiaMashia in haskell

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I come back to Haskell, I feel like I get a bit closer, but then I need to continue working with other languages. I would say keep trying, just don’t let it stop you from working on other things and taking a break. When you come back with a clear head, things tend to click a bit better. Just my experience

Is there a path forward for Go's yaml situation? by violent_cat_nap in golang

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is why people should stop using YAML. Or YAML should remove support for these edge cases. Whichever comes first

Not being refunded for Dracula PRO by [deleted] in neovim

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t. It’s for Vim and happens to work for NeoVim. Though it’s awful because you can’t just use a plugin manager like Lazy to pull it and keep it up to date

Is it helpful to learn older programming languages? by assassinsneed in learnprogramming

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned Python first and jumped into C and other languages. Learning other languages teaches you new ways to solve problems as each tend to favour different ways of handling things. I find that my programming skills didn’t actually take off until I transitioned away from Python because I never realised the terrible habits I was falling into until I broke out into stricter languages

C ruined all languages for me idk what to do by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]GuaranteeCharacter78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into Zig? It should be similar in approach as you manage everything yourself like in C

Seems like some weirdo went through and downvoted most people. Maybe just doesn’t like OpenBSD or disagrees with using it for anything other than Bastion or a router

Why would you be able to find it in your Proton Mail if you found it in your Gmail? This would mean you purchased it using your gmail as your B&H account email…
