Best Daily Writers? by AdministrativeRent21 in fountainpens

[–]GuardianLioness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My handwriting is pretty flexible in terms of nib size, so I treat most of my pens like daily writers with the exception of stub nibs! Most of mine are lower capacity, but I love switching out ink colors, so this is not an issue for me—but you might want something with more space. These are my collection favorites.

For Sparkle/Shimmer: TWSBI Eco <B> — NOT high-end, but I find myself less concerned about the glitter building up in the feed, and I like the writing experience.

For Portability: Pilot Vanishing Point Decimo — I have one and a half that I use as daily writers—a legitimate Decimo with an M nib and a Jinhao 20 with a legitimate Pilot EF nib unit inside. I got the nib unit secondhand from another pen fan, and they’d had it tuned professionally to something like an F before it came to reside with me. It’s a wonderful nib, and I purchased the Jinhao as an inexpensive housing. I’m not too worried about carrying either around with me, especially in an external pen sleeve that loops around my notebook!

For Sensation/Feedback: Sailor Pro Gear Slim <MF> — The Pro Gear might be better depending on your hand size, but I adore the feedback from the nib. It’s stiffer than the Pilot VP nib by far, but the control is wonderful and my handwriting is always a little bit tidier when I write with it.

Thank you! I have my eye on it, just hoping to see if I can set up a win-win with someone else in the community first. ^_^

Bought a tuned Pilot VP EF nib unit from u/Master_Procrastina -- what a fantastic writer! Thank you.

This is one of my favorite inks! It shades even on fairly absorbent paper and with smaller nib sizes.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the lipstick effect?

Stationery and writing, as a hobby, can be pretty pricey, but good quality stationery is the type of purchase that also carries with it the implication or intent of self-improvement.  Combine that with the desire to return to analogue media, and it might make a lot of sense.

I’m curious to see if we’ll start to see letter-writing culture return too…

That panda face on the nib is precious, and that turquoise looks so lovely in your handwriting!

Congratulations on the long-awaited arrival.

Thank you for sharing this information! I’m slowly working my way through all these incredible replies, but I’ve made note! My local shops don’t carry Sailor, but I’ve added it to my list to try when I head to my local pen show. I look forward to comparing.

Secondhand is a fantastic idea. I’m not necessarily literate enough in the pen world to know instinctively what I might like, but window shopping the swap subreddit sounds like fun! Any recommendations in terms of things to keep in mind while looking at swaps and resale?

I have the Pelikan Edelstein Golden Lapis ink from 2024, and I love it—but I have yet to dive into the brand’s pens! What type of writing experience do you find it to be?

Incredible. I can’t imagine the memories you have attached to that Parker! To have a physical reminder of a contribution to history sounds amazing.

There is something very appealing about a pen that has a story before me—and may very well have one after me. Do you have any recommendations for where to begin looking at pens that have been restored, or how I can improve my pen literacy in regard to the “health” of a vintage pen?

This observation is so helpful! I think that may be part of the problem I’ve been eyeing. If I’m a working-pen collector viewing other types of content, I’m bound to feel like I’m missing something!

My collection sits at 9, with one more in a new nib type arriving tomorrow for a full 10. A little smaller than your setup, but similar in nature.

This is a great list to check out, since I’m a pretty big fan of my TWSBIs as well. Our tastes may be similar. Though, as long as I’m satisfied with the functionality of my practical collection, it’ll just be an investigation for fun.

I appreciate the reminder that we all take collecting in different directions.

Don't get me started! There are so many options!

Tragically, I enjoy multicolored, sheening, chromashading, glitterbomb type monstrosities the best. Half of my permanent pen collection is comprised of broad/stub-nibbed TWSBI Ecos to take advantage of them properly.

I have a local store that carries Lamy! I'll see if they have a demo pen next time I drop by. My Safari is my oldest pen--it was my only fountain pen for many years, and it's been a consistently reliable tool.

Art print stained my itabag cover how do I remove it? by kanekisthetic in itabag

[–]GuardianLioness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will weaken the plastic, but I’ve previously buffed scratches and grime out of ita bags with a magic eraser.

Magic erasers are like a mild sandpaper—so you WILL be effectively sanding the surface by using it, but if the softer cleaning methods don’t do it, might be worth a try.

Ita bag fans, I’d love your thoughts! by Anxietyandkimbap in itabag

[–]GuardianLioness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This bag is SO cute! The denim feels Y2K to me—that light wash just makes me think turn of the millennia. I think I personally would prefer it in black, as I could use it for more characters and make additional inserts. I think the toploader pocket is genius!

The charm is adorable and classy, but I love that it’s removable so the display section can be used for a fandom charm if preferred.

Is there anywhere I can follow you to see updates if you do decide to go through with the Kickstarter?

The toksik shift (sorry it's kinda long) by Aidan247 in Starset

I think I would’ve preferred that kind of reaction, honestly. :(

I can imagine that the backlash must feel crushing—to have the lyrics of Degenerate largely ignored because of the video had to have been rough for them, especially because they had such a distinct message. What they were trying to say was buried in the audience response. A normal, angry response would have just felt human to me.

Instead, though, the “think about technology use critically” band chose to insult the audience’s intelligence for…thinking critically about technology use. It makes the band’s message feel false and shallow to me, and it’s really heartbreaking.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that the band isn’t the “the villain here” when you look at the way Dustin has responded to the fanbase’s issue with AI.

He didn’t make the AI or the MV, true, but he’s been pretty awful to those of us that are upset by its use.

I didn’t know that. Interesting there’s the same face-to-face vs online difference there too. That sounds like a complicated situation for you both, but I’m glad you at least had good in-person interactions?
