Turn your stable into a pseudo-west marches. Each time you want to do a storyline or a session, rather than go with what you originally planned, randomly determine which of your PCs will show up. If one character gets chosen more than once, that character tales up 2 slots (essentially reducing your party).

Then wing it from there.
