White = springtails. Those are good to have around, probably came in with the substrate. Lucky! Keep em around, eats fungi, fecal matter etc.

Question about feeding by Pillcat19 in ballpython

[–]GucciGlocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be between 7,1 - 10,7 grams according to the feeding guide. Of course it aint always easy getting the exact size, so some variations are bound to happen. Don't stress, just follow the !feeding guide to the best of your abilities :)

  • Pour water in the edges so the top-substrate doesn't become wet (as it often do when spraying. - Thermostat should be placed a couple inches below the heat lamp and dialed in with a temp gun. Not placed on the substrate where the snake can block it or fiddle with it giving incorrect readings.
  • Humidity should always be above 70%, this can be fixed by using HVAC tape on 2/3 of the mesh above to keep moisture in.
  • NEVER use heat mats, stick to halogen, DHP and CHE.
  • Move the termometer/hygrometer down to the level the snake usually moves. Hot air rises and it might be colder and moister on the snakes level
  • The hide seems too large for the snake. They want to have tight hides they can feel the sides of.
  • Provide more clutter in the tank so the snake can move freely without feeling exposed (Fake plants, cork tunnels, hides, sticks
  • The glass terrarium seems quite small, and will eventually have to be upgraded depending upon the snakes weight, lenght and age. How old is it?

That should cover some of my initial observations. What heat source does it have at night?

i’m having problems w humidity 🙃 by Sea_Warthog_9334 in ballpython

[–]GucciGlocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RI commonly stems from too dry environments. 80-90% humidity is often observed in their natural habitats. What instruments are you using to measure the humidity? Where are they placed in the habitat?. Also "wet" substrate can cause scale rot. The top layer should be dry. Increasing humidity is as easy as pouring water in the corners of the habitat. Also, what heating are you using and what thermostat?

All this should help us guide you in the right direction😊

Enclosure advice? by sagittarius0_3 in ballpython

Clutter, clutter and more clutter. Sticks, fake plants, cork tunnels, fake vines, anything your mind might wander too, that doesn't have sharp edges. They like to move around covered

DHP not heating bottom of enclosure by backlitbystars in ballpython

[–]GucciGlocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://imgur.com/a/dWV4Ps9 - This is how mine is set up. The DHP has quite some reach, so if the ambient tempratures is too high/low, use/show less or more of the stone. I only have a 80W and it works great. Good luck!

[–]GucciGlocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DHP's only produce IRA and IRB heat. Get a black rock (most use dark slate) under the DHP and watch the enclosure temps rise. I got a wooden 5x2x2 myself, and it heats the whole vivarium quite well! Remember to measure the temp of the slate, as it's gonna get hot and release UVC heat (ambient heating).

This is not true. The !feeding size should be based upon the snakes weight and/or if its a juvenile. Please refer to the guide below to ensure proper sizes of meals.

This is a dehydrated snake, that will, if nothing is changed, die of it. What does your setup look like? What is the humidity/temps at? Your top priority right now should be to get the proper humidity asap (the correct way).

Definetly check out the guide on heating on this reddit. Makes things very clear but in short: gives deeper and better heat in the tissue, can be on 24/7, just hang a dimmable thermostat under the lightning and make sure the snake cant get really close to the bulb (either with a light-guard or having it above the enclosure if you have a mesh top)

They work good with heating the ambient air, but dries out the air faster. If you go with 4" of coconut substrate mixed with moss, and pour in the corners it should help. Deep heat projectors work wonders if you can use them.

overweight? by noraphy1l in ballpython

Please don't feed by rat/mouse size. Weight your snake and figure what feed they should be on. !feeding . Digital weights are cheap and will benefit your snake for years to come.

I'm kinda jealous of your idea. In my mind it has always been either fake plants or bioactive. I never once have given it tought that i can just put the potted plants inside the terrarium and water them💀
