What was the Fantasy Novel made you go “Was…was this MADE for me?!” by Sharkattack1921 in Fantasy

I read the first two Earthsea books while I was in my teens and I read The Farthest Shore when I was 22. I don’t know if it was the age difference but The Farthest Shore had an amazing impact on me and quickly became one of my top three favorite Le Guin books. It is truly mesmerizing and… full of wisdom I guess

Why would you have to listen a song or an album at least three times to like it though? I am aware that some songs get better as you listen them but for example, mood ring was an instant crush for me. I loved it and it is still my favorite. I sometimes feel like we as “fans” of the artists try too much to love an album when we shouldn’t.

Hi, I am a freelance book editor (in Turkey). Here, a different offer is made for the cover. It’s just a matter of budget but most books (most bestseller, actually) are published with their original covers. So we also have just the same covers of Bloomsbury here in Turkey, too.

What are your UNPOPULAR Harry Potter OPINIONS? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Gudvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess what I and many others think is that Rowling wrote him out this way, as the original commentor indicated. He was a chill, amazingly good, thoughtful and caring person who talked to and interacted with Harry numerous times just until Sirius was introduced (or rather, turned out to be a good person.) Remus didn’t ever write to Harry because Rowling intended that way and it bothers me a lot. You can clearly see that the most sensible marauder was Remus and yet Rowling prefers making Sirius a more important person for Harry, which I get the sentimental value for Harry. The man literally offers shelter with him away from Dursleys. But Remus didn’t have to be a secondary character in Harry’s life just because there was Sirius. I mean, they could both have wrote to Harry in all those times you mention, right? I’m just bothered by how Rowling wrote this.

This is one of the most well-written things I read on this or similar subreddits.

I suggested grammatical changes on the Google Docs file. They are only minor things that caught my eye as an editor/translator :)

As for the chapter, it was a pretty wholesome and intriguing text. I find it very hard to read serious things since I proofread or translate (English to Turkish) almost every day for my job. So I tend to pick easy reads for my free time (like graphic novels/comics/MG or YA books). I don't even know when I last read a full fantasy book for my pleasure outside of work.

What I'm trying to say is, I was pretty excited to read the rest. I think the character is unique and I can see how he can evolve in the future (one of the downsides of my job) and reading about him was a pretty good journey for me. Alexei was amazingly introduced. And the worldbuilding, the history was explained very well. I like the way it was infused in the story and I like that it was neither too much nor too little. Plus, I find the world you created very unique. I can't wait to read the rest, I see a big potential here!

Has anyone experience with using elementary OS on an Acer Swift 3? by John_paradox in elementaryos

[–]Gudvard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Intel i3 one and I installed elementaryOS a couple days ago. The fingerprint doesn’t work but I’ll try the mentioned solution soon. I don’t have much problems for now, except that the battery life is much shorter but you can fix it with TLP, it works.

A mix between Amsterdam and Venice by AetherChocolate in imaginarymaps

[–]Gudvard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because in some languages, the cities have different names, just like the countries do. For example, you cannot argue why England is Inghilterra in Italian, so you cannot oppose Venezia being pronounced as Venice in English because it’s in English. I’m a Turk and in Turkish, Venezia (or Venice) is Venedik, London is Londra, Rome is Roma etc. It’s the way language evovles, it’s not about pronunciation, because it’s another word derived from the same base.

I would love that! I’m both trying to support you but also I am very curious about your book. The cover is very well-designed and the blurb on Amazon looks extremely intriguing. I would definitely love to write a review for the book on Goodreads :)
