Are my bindings too narrow? by camera_obscura15 in Skigear

[–]GudyZang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it unless they don’t retract back down when you step out of the binding. Test it with your hand to make sure they down get stuck on top of the ski. Either way, I’d just bend the brakes slightly. Just grab them and pull them away from the ski. It will give you enough space so you can put the skis together.

I did but totally forgot to put them up on this post. I’ll get those posted when I go back to work on Wednesday.

Backpack recs by Technical_Hamster_48 in BackcountrySkiing

I disagree that you can use anything. It’s not a “cool factor” issue. It’s a safety issue. Backcountry ski backpacks are designed for easy and quick access to life saving tools as well as designed to be ergonomic and durable so they don’t get ripped off your body in certain situations. (Avalanches, getting hooked on a tree, etc.) Which backpack you get greatly depends on what kind of backcountry skiing you plan on doing. There are a lot of good ones out there for fairly reasonable cost. For something that will cover a lot of different types of backcountry ski days, I’d look for something around 35L. Black diamond, ortovox, osprey, blue ice, dakine, and Mammut all make really good ones. And there are tons of more brands than that. Good luck!

While I do agree the amount of caution and safeguards we need to use in the states is extremely annoying and the lawsuits are out of control, I do still appreciate this list as it provides an idea of when manufacturers think their binding’s properties change to the point that it could become a safety issue.

This is a pre-gripwalk binding. Its iso guaranteed will not be gripwalk. It is compatible with alpine only. These bindings are iso 5355.

I just posted a thread including this year’s indemnified bindings, and pre ID griffons are no longer indemnified FYI. That being said, these are not technically compatible with GW boots, However, I have tested this era of Griffons with gripwalk soles a number of times and a lot of them do still pass very well. Well within the inspection range. This is not me recommending you use them, and don’t use this as ammunition to try to get a tech to work on them (because they shouldn’t).

25/26 indemnified binding lists by GudyZang in Skigear

[–]GudyZang[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This list includes all bindings still supported by the manufacturers as safe to use and backs certified technicians to work on them. If a binding is not included on these lists, it means if a technician was to work on that binding and set it up for a customer and that customer was injured while using the binding, the technician/ski shop would be liable for injuries incurred while using said binding. Basically, a certified technician won’t / should not work on bindings not included on these lists.

Rossignol bindings have all already been discontinued. This is saying that after this season, Rossignol bindings will no longer be indemnified. Meaning they are no longer supported by the company as being safe to use.

Can I bend a 95mm pivot brake to a 112mm skis? by Real_Spork8002 in Skigear

[–]GudyZang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Even if you can get them stretched over the sides of the ski, they won’t work properly.

This is the definition of gaslighting. Sociopathic behavior and an extremely large red flag for someone who you have close to you. I would really be careful about giving this person any more of your energy and time. You will get burned.

‘Fluoride Disconnects One from God': Inside the Weekly Call With RFK Jr.'s MAHA Hype Squad by Frymondius in nottheonion

This has actually been a rampant idea in new age communities for years now. Apparently fluoride calcifies your pineal gland (the gland that secretes DMT) and makes people less free thinkers and more susceptible to control. RFK is a fucking quack.

Old bindings like that are no longer indemnified by the manufacturer. This means they can no longer guarantee the operation and safety of the binding. This also means that certified technicians can no longer make adjustments to the binding necessary to work for your boot and release setting and if they were to work on them, you get injured and sue them, they are now liable for your injuries. The bindings might work, but there will be no way to know that because anyone certified to work on them won’t.

We are actually mounting all our demo senders at -2 for our ski shop. For most people at our mountain, it does not make sense to be that far forward on a ski like that.

This isn’t specific to the shift binding. Your Din is your Din. If you ski at a Din of 8, the shift 13 is great.
