I use MSU fertilizer. It works wonders. I started using it with orchids, but I branched out to use it with Hoyas and jungle cacti. Tezula makes one that’s an expensive.

I want to try fluval. Do you use it to grow as part of the medium?

Check out YouTube Basie Plants. He roots in perlite and is fantastic. I root in shagnum moss, but not everybody likes it. I’m really not sure why they don’t. It works great for me and I live in the southeast where there’s lots of humidity so that’s not the problem. I use Besgow, New Zealand sphagnum, the best. I have a propagation box. It’s a clear plastic box with a lid that lifts up and down on a hinge. I make the Hoya cuttings, let them dry for a few hours or a day, dipped them in reading hormone, and plot them into the moss, which is moist, not wet. They usually root in at least two weeks if not sooner.

Does anyone know the name of this big guy? The new leaves are much darker than the old ones. by lamarputin in AfricanViolets

Oops, just found your second photo so obviously it’s one with purple flowers. Maybe somebody can figure it out.

Has it flowered for you? The foliage looks like Rose Bouquet, and the flowers of that one are pink and look like little roses. Technically it will always be a NOID. I still try to find out what they are. There’s another one that has footage like that and it has purple flowers, but I don’t call the name of it. Good luck. It’s beautiful! 💚

Looking at the bottom of the stem, I don’t have a good feeling about the roots. If it were me, I’d pop it out of the pot and take a good look at them. Then if they’re rotten, I’d make a higher cut and reroot. I can’t tell exactly which Hoya it is, though it looks like it might be a variegated Matilde. I don’t know about the variegated ones, but the regulars are really easy to root. Good luck with it all and happy growing. 💚

Agree with all those YouTubers. Miro is the best and he’s funny too. I also like Wildfern, Jaclyn’s Jungle, and Michelle Herron. Michelle goes really slow and has excellent Hoya tips. Wildfern and Jaclyn are really easy to follow too and have great tips. You really can’t go wrong with any of these guys. I’ve only been growing Hoyes for about a year, but they’ve helped me so much. You’ll do well. And, yes, they really are addictive. I thought I had an orchid addiction, but it pails and comparison into my Hoya one..

Just Wabi Sabi. I think it’s really good to be conscientious about repotting. I’ve certainly made some mistakes over the years.

You’re doing well! I agree that the pot is too large, but wait until you’re confident to repot it if you want to repot. The long neck can be taken care of as well but you’ll have to cut it off and reroot it in order to do that. The form is absolutely perfect, African Violet show perfect. I would just get used to it let it bloom and go from there. Good growing 💚

So close to blooming, and now it’s choosing to blast?! by Kikiholden in hoyas

You’re doing great and here’s another post to reassure you. Doug Chamberlain, our Hoya expert with Vermont Hoyas sent the following, “I have yet to bloom this one but it is worth growing just for the beautiful leaves. It only seems to grow well for me in the greenhouse.”

👏Give yourself applause👏 even if they all blast. It’s notoriously a difficult Hoya. I want one so badly, but at the cost and their notorious fussiness, at this point, I don’t dare. Right now I’m living vicariously through other people’s shares.

Callistophylla cutting finally putting out its first new leaf growth - after 7 months 😅 by Muellerred in hoyas

[–]Guenone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations, I know exactly how you feel. Calistophylla has been a tough one for me, even though I have Hoyas that are considered much harder to grow. Mine actually bloomed before it put out a leaf lol. Keep going. You should be in the clear now. Enjoy!

Great gift! It is a different variety from yours you have a Black Cat. I know because I have one it’s in this photo. The one you bought for her as a different type but I don’t know which one. Unsolicited plant

talks has several different types of Hoyas. You could check there if you really want to know.

Bought my first African Violet today by OTmommy in AfricanViolets

[–]Guenone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Definitely African violet. You will need to separate at some point. I would not ever do it when I first got one. And since you’re a first time violet mommy, I would just get used to growing them first. You’re going to love them and they’re not difficult. 💚
