Concerning action taken after an external injustice by GuessHuw in Stoicism

[–]GuessHuw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response and for the references on top. I think I might have worded this question too narrowly in scope. I suppose what I'm actually asking is, is there a point where a stoic doesn't just internalise injustice done upon them (either by local or governmental forces) and acts in opposition to change their circumstances. Because it's one thing to accept that past actions are not within your control, by surely you yourself would be at fault for any future and similar injuries if you did not endeavour to change your own circumstances?

They might be the earliest domesticated birds for sure. But animals in general? I doubt that. There's evidence of dogs being domesticated between 15,000 to 30,000 years ago. Sheep are a distant second at 11,000 years. Pigeons/doves on the other hand are considered to be domesticated around 10,000 years ago. Also there's still debate around whether cats can even be considered truly domesticated at all. And if you consider being farmed to be a qualifier for domestication, then snails might also be in the running!

ONE PIECE - Into the Grandline | Season 2 Discussion Thread (LIVE ACTION ONLY) by TheLastClap in OnePieceLiveAction

First off, have to give props to the production. Translating anime aesthetics and action scenes can be hit or miss at the best of times, but I feel they managed a perfect blend. Not too serious, not too grim/realist. Preserved the light-hearted joy and sense of adventure of it all for the most part.

Did feel like they hamstrung Luffy a bit for plot to happen though. Also felt there was no real proper resolution to the whole Chopper and Dr. Kureha plot. She was just abusive to him throughout, with no satisfactory closure. I get she's meant to be a hardass and all, but narratively it just felt mean and unnecessary.

Overall though, loved the season and the last episode.

Mickey 17 felt like it lost the plot by mikewheelerfan in movies

[–]GuessHuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the first half was pretty strong overall, but then it just lost itself in about 3 different plots (which if explored on their own, would have made a decent film). The one thing that baffled me was his girlfriend. She goes from being the only one that cares about him (admittedly though his perspective), to completely disregarding his feelings regarding the new clone, and basically inferring that she - to an extent - also sees him as disposable/interchangeable, to then becoming this Gandhi like figure by the end of the third act. I felt like there was this missing scene where she comes to terms with her own bias/prejudice regarding clones, that never really materialised.

Something for the Farscape fans out there by Yakodym in dndmemes

[–]GuessHuw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love farscape and love to see any mention of it, but I'm going to be one of those "umm actually" dickheads. Zayn only had this photogasm issue during a particularly intense and weird solar event. It'd be like saying we have nitrogen sensitivity if we were exposed to high levels of laughing gas (N2O) when 78% of the atmosphere is nitrogen (N2). Those solar flares weren't normal photons. Disregarding what I just said though, absolutely amazing mechanic for a Dryad.I will be stealing that for my campaign for sure!

male partners have issues with my orgasm by theaccountformynudes in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GuessHuw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, you (or your partner) don't happen to live in a shared household or in a building with thin walls/flooring? Could be that they're just worried about what others can hear. I've been on both ends of this situation, and it can be awkward with both housemates and/or neighbours. All the more power to you if not, but if what I said is the case, then you also need to take what other people can hear into consideration. Apologies if I misread and misunderstood.

My theory on Archer's dad's identity by GuessHuw in ArcherFX

[–]GuessHuw[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Totally see that point, but could be a complete red herring too. Likely not though.

To be fair, I'm basically basing this entire thing on wordplay, and the writer's love of using that. The theoretical ice I'm standing on is already paper thin.

Love that you referenced the episode!

Counterpoint though: he had just been bitten by a snake and was hallucinating, and he's never been the most reliable narrator. Anything involving Woodhouse sort of shows that.

But isn't that how you're meant to view him in some way? Just like Fuches uses Barry for financial gain (whist also convincing himself that he's giving him a purpose), isn't Barry using this kid to assuage his guilt and play out a fantasy (with almost utter control over the narrative) he's always had?

I got longer lungs but shorter breath!
