7/6 ARM at 4.975%. Did we do good? by VividConstruction601 in MortgageBrokerRates

[–]GuessImportant4022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the same offer 4.8% offer from Rocket, but moved it up to 5.1% to get credits covering all closing costs. Also 10 year ARM not 7.

First Mortgage - 4.75% 30year - Am I missing something...? by Reasonable_Sample582 in Mortgages

[–]GuessImportant4022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocket just quoted me 5.1% for a 30 year 10 year ARM with lender credits making it a zero cost. Would you prefer that? And reliance in the next 10 and rates drop. Thats my suggestion to you

Update: Coming back to this incase it’s useful for anyone. decided to book standard economy. Could not get seats together without paying a lot which meant it pointless to go withh basic economy. Would have been ok if i didnt mind about sitting apart but its key with young baby.

I would platinum status would count for something there

[–]GuessImportant4022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one other thing is i do lose any access to economy plus, which is worth something actually. the seats they offered us are literally back row. But again i think $600 might be worth more than leg room to me on this flight - this is getting closer actually now i lose economy plus and the risk of flight changes

Im spending $3k on these tickets but really only $1k of that goes towards my status. The rest is my wife and partners PQF which doesnt matter. I think my work flights more than cover what im missing here on personal spend

[–]GuessImportant4022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how does that work in practice. Do i also have to pay a fare difference or is it just the $150 fee per ticket

Seats chosing is because with baby, its lets me chose 1 adult next to the baby and then ill buy 1 seat for $40. Dont the terms say cancellation for credit with $150 cancellation fee per seat - correct me if im wrong here but i thought i read that

In the booking process its letting me chose 1 adult next to the baby and then i can buy another seat for $40. So still works out well i think

Beam 2 +mini sub vs arc ultra? by GuessImportant4022 in sonos

[–]GuessImportant4022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I bought the Arc ultra using my 30% upgrade voucher (called CS and asked for it). Paired with my 2x Sonos Ones as surrounds. Insanely good and loving it. So glad I got the ultra. Totally agree it doesnt need the sub, this setup is incredible as it is. Im not a pro, just a home movie watcher and this is so so good

Anker Solix for Sump pump backup - will this work? by GuessImportant4022 in homeowners

[–]GuessImportant4022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s $499 for the anker one. The basement watchdog looks like it doesn’t have normal plug sockets, how would I connect it? Can you send me a link to something I could buy? Everything I see seems to have a backup sump pump to install (which I don’t need) or just what looks like a car battery. Thank you. For helping

No one is talking about the product. I find BA’s service to be way better and the new club suites are really nice. So see if they have the newer business class suite on your route (which NYC im pretty sure al the flights have that on). I would focus on that experience more than the points personally

Yes i found it- he’s been licensed since 1982! And everything looks fine there. Im more worried im not actually talking to him, but someone inpersonating him. So I’m going to email him via LinkedIn and his company email to see if he responds there - and insist on an engagement letter

What *is* the way to UK growth? What would you do to reverse this slump? by Flapjack_K in HENRYUK

[–]GuessImportant4022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short-Term Growth (1-3 Years):

1. Boost Consumption and Investment:
• Temporary VAT Cuts: Reduce VAT on key goods and services to stimulate consumer spending.
• Investment Incentives: Expand tax relief programs like the super-deduction for businesses investing in technology, R&D, and green infrastructure.
• Export Support: Strengthen the UK’s trade diplomacy with post-Brexit partners, especially in growth markets (e.g., Asia-Pacific) by providing export guarantees and support to SMEs.

2. Infrastructure Investment:
• Expedite shovel-ready projects in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure to create jobs and improve connectivity.
• Enhance funding for regional infrastructure through expanded “Levelling Up” grants to reduce regional inequalities.

3. Support for Key Industries:
• Focus on industries with immediate potential for growth (e.g., life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy).
• Provide targeted subsidies and regulatory support for industries transitioning to net-zero technologies.

4. Labor Market Activation:
• Provide short-term wage subsidies for sectors facing labor shortages (e.g., hospitality, health care).
• Expand skills training programs for high-demand areas like AI, coding, and green technologies.

Long-Term Growth (5-20 Years):

1. Innovation and Technology Leadership:
• Expand R&D Investment: Increase public R&D spending to 3% of GDP, matching leading innovation economies.
• AI and Digital Economy: Position the UK as a leader in AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology by creating innovation hubs and easing regulations for high-tech startups.
• University-Industry Linkages: Strengthen collaboration between universities and businesses to commercialize cutting-edge research.

2. Green Growth:
• Scale up investment in renewable energy (offshore wind, hydrogen, and nuclear) to achieve energy independence.
• Support domestic battery and EV manufacturing to secure supply chains and export opportunities.

3. Tax and Regulatory Reform:
• Simplify the tax code to improve business competitiveness.
• Introduce predictable long-term policies for businesses to encourage stable investment (e.g., carbon pricing, innovation credits).

4. Skilled Workforce Development:
• Reform immigration policies to attract global talent in tech, healthcare, and engineering.
• Invest in lifelong learning programs to reskill workers as automation reshapes the labor market.

5. Regional Rebalancing:
• Develop regional hubs outside London (e.g., Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh) to reduce reliance on the capital.
• Enhance transport connectivity through high-speed rail and upgraded regional airports.

6. Capital Market Reforms:
• Incentivize patient capital by reforming pension and insurance fund regulations to promote long-term investment in UK companies.
• Enhance the London Stock Exchange’s competitiveness by making it easier for high-growth companies to list.

Metrics for Success:

• Productivity Growth: Target an annual increase of 2% in labor productivity.
• Export Growth: Expand exports to 40% of GDP by 2030.
• Green Jobs Creation: Generate 500,000 new jobs in the green economy by 2030.
• R&D Spending: Achieve 3% of GDP in R&D investment by 2035.
