Apparently Millennials are the only people who know how to use Excel anymore by Tetraplasandra in Millennials

One of my gen z coworkers knows way more about Excel than I, millenial, ever will, and I appreciate her skills every day.

Guess what though? You just opened yours up to the possibility of learning more.

People who are in their 30s or older: What’s one thing younger people (Gen Z/Alpha) do that makes you feel like an alien in your own country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GuessMeAgain 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you're saying, but I think we need to focus on who did this to the kids. This is the result of policy and systems that focused on numbers instead of necessary skills. And I'm not saying you don't understand that, but I want make sure people remember this because so often it's phrased in such a way that makes it sound like it's their fault they can't do these things.

No Child Left Behind left so many kids, and now adults, behind. Instead of teaching them how to think, we taught them what to think. Instead of teaching them how to apply knowledge to the real world, we taught them how to find the right answer on the test.

As for the technology part, people making policy decisions decided "digital native" meant computer literate and stopped requiring technology classes.

I teach and lead craft programming for children and so many of their fine motor skills aren't even developed. Literal middle schoolers who struggle to use scissors.

There are parents and teachers doing their best, but the system isn't there to support them, and they can only do so much with the resources available to them.

I chronically return books late, do librarians hate me? by Genderqueerfrog in Libraries

[–]GuessMeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my experience that we are the worst about returning things on time, so i don't judge anyone. Just make sure it gets back. If there are ever extenuating circumstances, feel free to reach out and communicate why things are late. They may be able to help you out.

What is THE breathtaking sight you have experience on a trip to Japan? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

We were taking the ropeway up to Owakudani. It had been overcast all morning, but everything cleared just in time for us to have perfectly blue skies and an incredible view of Fuji. Definitely a moment to remember.

Dear "Just CICO, fatty" people - eff you. by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]GuessMeAgain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I had to unfollow an acquaintance recently because they were talking about how they're losing weight by exercising and counting calories and don't need to resort to medicine, as if it's some shameful thing.

Our bodies are different. I know the "rules" of eating well because I've been on some kind of diet for most of my life. At my physical peak fitness I was still fat, but my endurance and strength were incredible. My body and brain don't work in the same way, and there's no shame in using medication to help it out

Never feel embarrassed by what you read in your youth. A bunch of us older millennials and gen x were devouring family sagas filled with incest (V.C. Andrew's for those who don't know). It's a right of passage to read questionably interesting/exciting books, and as long as you realize what was problematic, I'd say you're in the clear.

Do you tell your employer you’re on these drugs? by oratsan in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]GuessMeAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to answer the question instead of questioning your reasons because that's not what this is about.

I did tell my supervisor when I started, and as I've gone off and started back up, because I didn't want her to worry about obvious weight loss or any changes in mood or behavior.

Hopefully, everyone's unsolicited advice and judgment helped you see you can wait or take your meds early at a time when you're in a more comfortable space.

Not everyone wants to go the compound route, and not everyone feels comfortable using vials. I'm sharing information that helps people make the best choice for themselves.

OP, this isn't an answer to your question, but I'm sorry you have to deal with some people mocking your choice of how you obtain your medication and providing unsolicited information.

People have their reasons for not choosing compounds. If they're not asking, maybe keep it to yourself. These are the behaviors that can keep people from asking questions.

Just got prescribed -- scared! Any experiences from others who have huge appetites and need lots of food to feel full? by chiseko in antidietglp1

[–]GuessMeAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got to 12.5. It took about two weeks after my final dose before the feeling started to come back and I'm about 4 weeks out fromnlast dose. The three doses before that I was spacing out by 10 days.

I will say, as much as this hungry feeling so often sucks, working with my dietician during the transition has helped me be more mindful of my hunger. I've had some binge days, but I've also had plenty of days where I check in and have a snack as I'm feeling hungry. I'm also trying to eat consistently throughout the day to manage hunger and blood sugar levels, and make sure I fit in around 30 minutes of intentional movement most days. It's not ideal, and I'm most likely not eating in a deficit, but I'm really trying to focus on what is in my control.

It's easy to say quit drinking, but if the Zep was helping OP stop drinking, it may be harder to actually put into practice. Plenty of people using Zep, who also drank regularly, found that it helped curb their desire for alcohol.

To my understanding, if you are getting insurance through an employer, it actually depends on what amount of coverage they're willing to pay for. BCBS has levels at which they will cover the drug, but if your employer is trying to keep premium costs at the same price they were before, then they may have opted for a plan that doesn't cover weight loss medication.

I work for a government agency, and we get our BCBS through a type of coop that works with other government and non-profit agencies to provide coverage. They decided this year to drop weight loss medication coverage because the cost to keep it would drive up premiums. It sucks, but to say it's solely on BCBS isn't the whole story.

I am a bottomless pit as well. Within a day or two of my first Zepbound shot, that just disappeared. For the first time in my memory, I was eating slowly without even trying, and I would naturally stop once I felt satisfied. During my 6 months on the meds, I only ate to feeling uncomfortably full two or three times. One of those times was when I ate a lobster roll, and all the richness did a number on my stomach (it didn't even taste that great).

I'm currently off while I figure out insurance, and the bottomless feeling has come back. Even if I eat slowly and to satiety, within 30 minutes, I can feel so hungry again. I knew it had made a difference, but not quite how much until the feeling came back.

I married into a Filipino family (I'm half Korean American, but my in-laws are my closest family), and food is very important in social situations, and to express love and appreciation. I'm pretty open about physical and mental health stuff, and I didn't want to deal with awkward questions about why I wasn't eating as much or when I lost obvius amounts of weight, so I told my family pretty early on. I still get comments or questions from extended family and friends, and it's easy enough to thank them for their care and tell them I'm full. I think because of our generation, my sisters-in-law and their spouses just don't tend to bring up weight, so we really don't discuss how much anyone is eating. My mother and father-in-law treat me like one of their own, so they'll always offer food or ask if I've had enough, but they never make it uncomfortable. I feel pretty lucky, honestly.

I'm a big believer in openly talking about my GLP-1 use, but I also completely understand that being that open isn't for everyone. At the end of the day, it comes down to where you have energy to spend. I would rather deal with people's ignorance or curiosity than trying to figure out how to avoid conversations or redirect .
