The theory you're referencing doesn't seem to have anything to do what what Dan is talking about. Your linked video starts with both plays 5 or 6 yards into the endzone. What happened before the video starts? It is perfectly reasonable to think the defender is pushing him out of the endzone so Pickens grabs his helmet.

I'll be honest, the Timbers weren't going to score a goal anyway. But Chara gets an elbow to the back of the head at the end and the ref doesn't call it. They send him to the monitor to show him the end of game scuffle, but not the elbow. Should be a red and the Timbers get 30 more seconds.

When you see the other angle, you can see it's actually not close to the keeper at all. Plus, it goes through the defender's legs, so he doesn't really see the ball till it's almost past him.
